*Autumn's P.O.V.*
I woke up. Well kind of. I fell asleep for a few minutes then woke back up. My eyes were burning from lacking sleep. I sat up from my bed and lingered to my bathroom. I looked in the mirror and seen slightly noticeable black circles forming under my eyes. 'What is it with me not sleeping these days?' I thought. I grabbed my phone from the sink countertop and looked at the time. It just turned 4 A.M.
I know it would make me sound like a irresponsible brat if I said 'I could just skip work later on today' considering the fact how hard it is to work there but I don't want to deal with punishment right now, not today. I'm too tired and I can't keep my eyes open. It would probably not affect me and I would forget what she did tomorrow, or she would wait until tomorrow to punish me so a 50/50 chance.
I was shocked to see I had no voicemails or miscalls from the immature dude who tries scamming and scaring people. I could just get a hold of someone and they could trace him then put him in jail but I'm a laid back person most of the time and I don't really care about him doing that. He'll eventually get bored and move on when he realizes that.
I was going to get my makeup bag to cover up my dark circles until I remembered I don't have any makeup that could cover them up. I put my head against the wall.
"Everyday is stressful," I whined. I impulsively made the move to go to the store. I grabbed my wallet off of the table and headed out the door. I know I look insane from the outside, what's new?
I was already cold from the beginning and it's not helping that it's quite blustery outside. My teeth started shivering, causing me to pick up my pace, moving rapidly.
The reason my apartment was so cheap is because it's not close to much. The things that it's close to are pawn shops, a couple of public service places that are only needed on certain occasions, and a bunch of vacant properties. The small part of where I live seems to be old which isn't a problem it just gives me a weird vibe.
I finally got into the store. I moped through the aisles. I don't know why I couldn't of waited until later in the morning instead. I finally made it to the makeup aisle. I grabbed two things and stood there.
"Maybe I should get an alarm clock while I'm here. Worrying about waking up late could be the problem," I whispered to myself. I made my way to the shelf and grabbed it. I checked out then left. When I came out it was raining. I hustled in the rain while trying to avoid potholes. Not a good idea to run on a somewhat busy street in the dark during snow season.
A tripped on a pothole. The side of my face felt slightly numb but a blazy feeling . I knew exactly what that meant. "Damnit," I said under my breath as I stood up. I dusted off my pajamas and carefully walked back to my apartment. I was trying to not cry from the burning sensation on my face. I sluggishly walked up the stairs and to my front door. I turned to key the way to unlock it but it wasn't moving. It turned the key the other way and it locked.
I forgot to lock my apartment. I quickly unlocked it. At least nothing was missing right? Wrong, my phone was gone. The inside of my stomach felt tight.
"How did I forget to take my phone with me? Who even knows where I live? How did they know the door was unlocked?" I asked myself as a tear strolled down my face.
"Relax, It's just me," a familiar voice said. I went into the bathroom and flipped the light switch on. It was my nephew. "Surprise...what happened to your face?"
"Nothing, don't worry about it. What are you doing here? How do you know where I live?" I asked.
"My parents are on a business trip and apparently I'm not responsible enough to take care of myself so they booked a flight for me to come here for a few weeks. Also, I searched your address up," he explained.
"Tell your father that I said thanks for the heads up. I can barley even take care of you if that's what they're wanting. I have work and an appointment," I sassed. He sighed and rolled his eyes.
"I can go to work with you and wait in the waiting room. Your almost 22, you should know that," he mocked while trying to imitate my voice.
"You cannot go to work with me. That.. that's not allowed. Your can stay here," I said. He shook his head.
"You know, they were planning on paying you a large amount of money to watch me. It's boring here. I can just tell them that you aren't taking care of me," he threatend with a smirk. He laughed after a few seconds. "I'm kidding. I don't think you found that funny," he mumbled. He walked towards me. "Here's your phone back," he mumered. I snatched it from his hand and put it in my pocket.
I laid the makeup out on my counter and covered up the dark circles. I put a large band aid on top of the scrape, not bothering to clean it though it will probably come back and bite me in the end with my luck and I'd be that small percentage. I took out some clothes from my drawers and changed in the bathroom. I proceeded to brush my hair. I looked at myself in the mirror. I look decent in my opinion. Nothing is really noticeable besides the band aid.
"I'm leaving, I'll be back in around 5. Do not unlock the door for anyone or leave," I demanded. It was around 6 in the morning and I had a rather long walk to my therapist's office. My appointment wasn't until 7.
"Okay bye," he mumbled. I took my phone, keys, and wallet and headed out. I made sure to lock my door this time.
