âDonât worry, youâre definitely not the Mermaid Queenâs type!â the Mermaid Queen said with a frown.
This guy really needs a good beating!

âYouâre the Mermaid Queen?â Zu An suddenly looked at her.
âOf course not!â The Mermaid Queen was startled.
Did I end up giving something away?
âThen if youâre not, why are you so sure that she won't be into someone like me?â Zu An grinned. This feeling of hiding his identity really was great. He didnât have to worry about a thing no matter what he said. There was no psychological burden at all.
The Mermaid Queen was stupefied. She couldn't say that she was the Mermaid Queen, but she couldn't concede that the Mermaid Queen would like him either.
âI am the Mermaid Queenâs maid, so of course I know what preferences she has.â She was a bit flustered for a bit, but she quickly found a suitable pretext. Either way, she had to return to the palace after this, so she needed a proper excuse for that too.
Iâm really a genius. I found such a great explanation.
âA maid?â Zu An looked at her with a weird look. âIt seems the reputation of your Mermaid Queenâs beauty is a bit exaggerated.â
The Mermaid Queen was stunned. âWhy would you say that?â
In all these years, she had never cared so much about someone elseâs evaluation of her beauty.
âJust think about it. If that Mermaid Queen really was that beautiful, why would she choose such a normal-looking servant like you to offset her own looks? Others might think sheâs beautiful because she always has you as a comparison next to her. She really should be increasing your salary for all of this.â As Zu An said that with a deadly earnest expression, he added inwardly, Please hurry and hate me! I'm someone who judges others by appearances, the type of man who's completely tactless and terrible with words.
The Mermaid Queen was stunned, gritting her teeth. This guy always managed to provoke her emotions somehow! But she couldn't tell him her real identity either, and could only suffer in silence.

Meanwhile, Mojard caught up to the group of seahorses. Unfortunately, he didnât see any sign of the two. He grabbed one of the seahorses and forcibly tore it in half out of fury, leaving the rest stunned.
The Dragon King arrived just in time to see the rain of blood that scattered everywhere. His eyes twitched, and he quickly asked with an apologetic smile, âMay I ask what happened for the Incestuous King to be so angry?â
Just now, he'd been back in his palace drinking wine with pretty concubines to either side while enjoying the dancing of beautiful clam ladies. He'd been thinking about which of them would be the lucky one chosen to serve him today. But as they moved around in their dance, he'd felt thatthey all had their good points. In the end, he decided to choose them all.
Iâm the Dragon King anyway. Iâll be letting this identity down if I donât properly enjoy myself.
But who wouldâve known that there would suddenly be so much noise outside? When he received news of that and left his palace, he'd seen raging flames soar into the sky around the Four Way Palace. That brought him quite the shock. It was definitely no small matter if flames could burn here in the Dragon Palace, all the way in the depths of the ocean. He quickly rushed over and just happened to see this scene.
Mojard gave him a cold look. âThatâs something I should be asking you. We are guests of your Dragon Palace, and yet under your protection, an assassin killed our head emissary, and then two more assassins came in to cause trouble. Iâm even starting to wonder if you were the one who sent those assassins.â
The Dragon King broke out into cold sweat. The thought of beauties leaning against him completely disappeared from his mind. âIncestuous King, you have misunderstood! Those assassins have absolutely nothing to do with me!â He kicked the military officer next to him to the ground as he spoke. âYou useless thing, I put you in charge of the emissariesâ safety, so how do accidents keep happening one after another?!â
The officer was terrified. He was lying on the ground and about to explain when Mojard suddenly said, âSince heâs useless, thereâs no need to keep him alive anymore.â
As soon as he said that, his hand moved in a blur. The next second, the officerâs head reappeared in Mojardâs hand, blood immediately dyeing the surroundings red.
Everyone present was speechless.
The Dragon King swallowed with difficulty.
The Incestuous Kingâs cultivation is terrifying, as expected. But if it was enough to appease his anger, the death of a guard captain will have been worth it.
Mojard tossed the head away to the side and said indifferently, âThe Dragon King wonât blame me for taking matters into my own hands, right?â
âI wouldnât dare! He neglected his duty and his punishment was fully deserved,â the Dragon King said submissively.
The Dragon Kingâs other military officers exchanged a look. Then, they silently hung their heads.
âThis humble king will personally lead my troops to track down that assassin.â The Dragon King was worried that he'd really offended Mojard this time, and quickly spoke up to express his sincerity.
âThereâs no need for that. I already have a rough idea of who the assassin is this time.â Mojard took out a handkerchief to wipe away the blood on his hands.
âWho?â The Dragon King was stunned. He was also very curious. Just who was this person, for them to be so incredible and daring that they would cause trouble in his own territory?
âThe Dragon King can follow me if you are interested," Mojard said, then headed straight toward the Mermaid Queenâs palace.
Meanwhile, the Mermaid Queen stopped after bringing Zu An near her chambers. She warned him insistently, âOnce we go inside, you will pretend to be a guard of the Mermaid race. Donât say anything and donât give anything away, or else not even the queen will not be able to save you."
Zu An was getting a bit of a headache. He'd already tried so hard to piss her off, and yet she'd still grabbed his wrist so firmly without any intention of letting go. He couldn't just use his cultivation to shake off her hand, right? Otherwise, no matter how slow she was, sheâd still realize that something was wrong.
âYou donât seem to be in a good mood,â he remarked, wondering if it was because his words from earlier really had hurt her.
That shouldnât be, right? She isnât really some ordinary palace maid. Why would she be hurt because I said she looks plain?
Sometimes, it wasnât lies that hurt, but rather the truth that was merciless.
âI wasnât able to successfully save the Peacock Princess. There will be even less of a chance in the future.â The Mermaid Queen sighed. She wondered just how the Peacock Princess was doing right now. And what was that ritual that the monster had been talking about?
âThe Peacock Princessâ¦â Kong Nanwu appeared in Zu Anâs mind. How had he even ended up up meeting her ancestor? He asked, âWas she the earlier assassin?â After collecting all of the various clues, that wasnât difficult to guess.
The Mermaid Queen gave him a suspicious look. âYou are a Dragon Palace guard, but you didnât know?â
Zu An was alarmed.
I was too careless!
But he reacted quickly and said, âThat kind of top secret information isnât something a lower-level guard like me can know about.â
The Mermaid Queen didnât continue to suspect him too much. The Dragon King must have deliberately kept this matter a secret. This lesser guard really was pitiful. He was sent over to guard the Four Way Palace, but he didnât know a thing.
She answered, âThatâs right. She was indeed the assassin and killed the monstersâ head emissary. She wanted to use this chance to fracture the relationship between the Ocean races and the monsters. Unfortunately, she didnât anticipate the Incestuous King being among the emissaries.â
When he heard about all those things, Zu An could no longer remain as calm as before. He didnât want to influence this piece of history too much, but how could he just stand by without doing a thing when he learned that the Peacock Princess was actually so brave?
I should be fine as long as I keep my real identity hidden.
âThe Ocean races and the monsters have formed an alliance?â Zu An asked this crucial question. If the Ocean races sided with the monsters, he really couldn't see much hope of this world turning things around.
The Mermaid Queen opened her mouth, but in the end, she didnât answer the question. âThese arenât things a lesser guard like you should know. Sometimes, the more you know, the more dangerous it will be for you.â
Zu An was speechless.
This is bad, my acting was too good.
âArenât you just a maid too? What are you acting all cocky for?â He deliberately provoked her.
The Mermaid Queenâs eyes twitched. âHmph, my cultivation is much higher than yours, you know?â
Zu An didnât have anything to say in response to that.
Zu An, youâre so good at acting, arenât you? Now you have nothing left to say in response, right?
âIs that the intent of your queen? Is she more inclined to ally with the monsters?â he asked directly.
âHow wise is someone like the queen? Why would she participate in something like that? This was just something I personally chose to do. You absolutely cannot blab about this in the future,â the Mermaid Queen warned him.
Zu An gave her a complicated look.
Youâre really getting into the act. But if you find out the truth, itâll be social suicideâ¦
