Dear Sweetheart Chapter 48 I Will Break Your Neck âInteresting! Did you make this? Was it difficult making something like this?â Rayna was intrigued by the ring. She tapped it twice, and the red light dimmed.
âItâs not too difficult. Itâs harder getting the materials,â the brother replied. James managed to get the materials from his instructor because he had put extra effort into his assignment. The material would cost a tonne if he were to sell it off in the market.
James had made two similar rings. One of them had a more appealing design, and James originally wanted to give it to Rayna and the plain one to Roxanne, but Kristie saw the prettier one and took it.
When Kristie saw that ring, she put it on immediately and refused to take it off. She even threw James her credit card, saying, âItâs just a ring. Just charge however much you want for it. Iâm not giving it back to you.â
Little did she know, money was not the main issue to James, but regardless, James had no intention of arguing with her, for he dreaded her high-pitched screech most of all.
So, he had no choice but to sacrifice Roxanne. He figured he could just take the ring back from Kristie when he quit.
âDoes Roxanne have one?â Rayna suddenly asked. âSheâs in the entertainment industry, so I guess she needs this more than I do.â
âShe does. Iâll give it to her later.â
Since James had said so, Rayna did not see why she should turn him down. Although the design was not to her taste, Rayna still put it on since it fitted her ring finger nicely and was a tracker made especially by her brother.
When lunch time came, the doorbell rang. It was Roxanne.
âI hope Iâm not too late. I came right after I finished the shoot for an ad,â she announced gleefully. She looked at her brother in disbelief upon entering the house. âJames! What did you eat at school? You grew so tall!â
âI didnât have any superfood. You only have yourself to blame for not being as tall,â James ridiculed.
âHey! Iâm a hundred and seventy! Iâm taller than Rayna, at least!â Roxanne seethed, kicking James. âPlease speak politely to your sister. Youâre always so rude. Does it hurt being polite to your elder sister?â
âWhy do I feel like youâre younger than me?â
âCut it out, James!â
âAll right. Thatâs enough. Come over and eat,â Rayna called out, knocking on the table.
After Roxanne went over to the table, Rayna glared at her and questioned, âSince when are you taller than me? Iâm also a hundred and seventy,â Rayna pointed out.
âRayna, thatâs not your height. Youâre a hundred and sixty-eight.â
Rayna picked up a piece of beef and stuffed it in Roxanneâs mouth. âShut up and eat!â
Linda smiled, looking at the children bantering among themselves.
During the meal, Linda saw to it that Roxanne had two plates of spaghetti until she was so full she lay flat on the couch after the meal. Since Roxanne was not rushing to go home, Rayna suggested that they play poker.
Roxanne readily flashed ten thousand in cash for the game, but all the money ended up being pocketed by James.
âJames Griffith! Canât you go easy on me just once? Iâm your second elder sister! Do you have something against me? This is my money!â Roxanne bellowed in disgruntlement as she booted James.
âJust shut up if youâre a noob,â James teased with his lips curved. He was in a phenomenal mood, for he had just won the game.
âRayna! Heâs bullying me!â Roxanne complained to Rayna. âHeâs even taking advantage of me in a game. Heâs insufferable!â
âSays the one who kicked me!â James begged to differ.
âSo, what? How could you do this to a woman? Youâre doomed to be single forever, James!â Roxanne shouted, kicking him twice again.
âHe already has a girlfriend, though,â Rayna suddenly interrupted with a sly smile.
âFor real?â Roxanne was surprised. She looked at James and asked, âWhoâs this tasteless girl?â
Jamesâ expression darkened.
âWhat? James has a girlfriend?â Linda came dashing over when she heard their conversation. âJames, youâre still young. You should focus on your studies now.â
âMom, sheâs just my schoolmate. No one has the time to think about relationships at my school,â James explained, rubbing his buzz cut.
âGood to know,â Linda noted with a sigh of relief.
âI bet she doesnât even like you. Look at yourself in the mirror. Youâre so clueless. I wouldnât even fall for you if I were a young girl,â Roxanne chaffed with a laugh.
âYouâre so annoying, Roxanne,â James retorted with a fallen face.
Kristie is already a handful. I canât believe I have to deal with Roxanne even after work.
The sister stuck out her tongue at James and took out her phone as she turned to Rayna. âRayna, I came across a really cool beautifying app recently. Why donât we take some selfies together?â
Rayna looked back in disgust. âIâm not sure about you, but Iâve really had enough of you. I already see you every day.â
âHey! Itâs just a few photos!â
James stared hard at Roxanne, feeling something was amiss, and his gaze turned cold.
The three of them stayed at Lindaâs place until about three in the afternoon before taking their leave.
Rayna wanted to send James back, but the latter declined.
âItâs fine, Rayna. I can go home with Roxanne. I have something to discuss with her,â he answered, hugging Roxanneâs shoulder.
âOkay, then.â
So, Rayna hailed a taxi after she walked out of the residential area.
As for James, since Roxanneâs minivan was just right beside the road, he went in with her with his arm still around her.
âWhat do you want, James?â Roxanne questioned the moment they got in.
Instead of answering, James grabbed her phone from her bag and unlocked it before Roxanne could even stop him.
When he clicked into the album, he saw numerous photos of Rayna and waved the phone in front of Roxanne. âWhy did you take so many photos of her?â he interrogated.
âWhatâs wrong with that? Canât I take pictures of my sister?â Feeling uncomfortable under Jamesâ burning gaze, Roxanne came up with a strained excuse.
âDonât lie! Youâre so selfish and vain!â James scoffed. He thought Roxanne had used Raynaâs photos for unscrupulous purposes, so he opened her WhatsApp.
Roxanne felt her heart thumped violently.
Thatâs it.
James scrolled through her chats but did not find Roxanneâs conversation with Jefferson, for she had the habit of deleting all her conversations with him.
James could not put a finger on anything without any proof.
âThatâs enough, James,â Roxanne snapped, snatching her phone back. âSheâs my sister. I wonât do anything to her, even if Iâm selfish and vain. Iâm not that mean!â
âThen why did you save so many photos of her?â
Roxanne felt so pressured she broke into a sweat. She pouted, answering, âFine. Iâve been looking for a boyfriend for her since she divorced Julian.â
âYouâre looking for a boyfriend for her? I doubt youâll even come across anyone decent,â James commented, eyeing her from tip to toe.
âWhat do you mean?â Roxanne reacted in dissatisfaction. âIâm still popular in the circle and know many high-level executives in many companies. Theyâre way better than Julian.â
âShe has just gone through a divorce. Canât you give her a break, at least? Whether she gets married or not has nothing to do with you,â James argued, his hand pressing against the car seat.
âIâm just trying to help our own sister! You donât have to be so hard on me as if I did something unforgivable,â Roxanne replied, shrinking backward to keep some distance.
âYouâd better not do anything. I donât care how you behave in the entertainment industry, but Iâll break your neck if you dare use Rayna as a bargaining chip.â
Roxanne paled. That was the first time James ever threatened her.
