It wasnât long before the housekeepers were done preparing Raynaâs new bedroom.
However, Jefferson told them it would not be necessary. He then personally inspected all of Raynaâs belongings before bringing her to his bedroom.
âThis isnât necessary. The new bedroom isnât far away from yours, so you can still watch over me. Thereâs no need for you to be so worried,â Rayna protested with an uncomfortable look on her face.
Jefferson ignored her protests and dragged her into his bedroom anyway.
After closing the door behind them, he looked at her and said, âYou need to remember that you have two babies in your tummy now, Belle. I promised Iâd protect you and your babies, so I will be sure to keep my promise. Donât worry; my bedroom is big so I can fit a single bed in the walk-in closet. Iâll also try to come home a little later so that I donât disturb your sleep.â
After setting up a bed near the closet, he retrieved a pillow and blanket and laid them neatly on the bed.
Whatever feelings of awkwardness she had were gone when she saw how much he cared about her.
Feeling refreshed after taking a shower, Rayna continued going through her list of politicians.
Her eyes lit up when she saw Jeremyâs name on the list.
Since Jefferson was in the shower, Rayna looked up Jeremyâs phone number and gave him a call.
She was so nervous that she held her breath while waiting.
About ten seconds later, Jeremy answered the phone, âHello?â
âHello, Jeremy. Itâs me, Rayna.â
âOh, hi, Ms. Garland. Long time no see. To what do I owe the pleasure of your call?â Jeremy asked in a gentle voice.
âDid you receive the invitation to The Kingâs Party?â
Jeremy let out a chuckle. âYes, I did. Why are you asking me about this, Ms. Garland? Will you be attending it as well?â
Rayna pursed her lips and spilled the beans. âJeffersonâs father handed him a list of names. He will regain the rights to become the heir of the Terblanc family if the people on the list sign the document.â
âLet me guess, my name is on that list as well, isnât it?â
âYes.â
âI know that youâre a smart woman, Ms. Garland. You went to Yartran with Jefferson and are trying to help him out so you can avenge Kristie. However, you made a mistake right from the start. None of this wouldâve happened if youâd told Curtis the truth sooner and cared for him again,â Jeremy said calmly.
âIâm sorry.â After all the stupid things Rayna had done, that was all she could say in response.
She gently caressed her tummy as she asked, âH-How is he doing?â
âYou two have broken up, Ms. Garland. How Curtis is doing is no longer your concern. I did receive the invitation, but I also have a lot of work to do, so Iâm afraid I wonât be able to attend the party,â Jeremy replied.
Rayna had anticipated his response when she made the call, and yet, she still felt upset when she heard it.
Jefferson wonât be able to regain his right to become the heir if he is one signature short.
With that in mind, Rayna said, âIâm sorry for destroying your laboratory, Jeremy. Let me know how much you need, and Iâll pay you accordingly.â
âThereâs no need for you to apologize. It should be Arnaud who compensates me for the damages. Is there anything else youâd like to talk about, Ms. Garland? If not, Iâll be hanging up now.â Jeremy sounded like he was in a hurry.
Rayna hesitated for a bit before saying, âJefferson needs Ixora, but itâs gone. I know youâre very good at this, Jeremy. Will you please save Jefferson? I donât care if you need to use him as a test subject. Iâll pay you any amount of money you need for this research.â
âYou seem to care a lot about your ex-boyfriend, Ms. Garland,â Jeremy commented coldly.
âI owe him this much.â
âIâm sorry, but I canât help you with this one. Youâll have to ask someone else, Ms. Garland,â Jeremy said and hung up the phone immediately after.
The light in Raynaâs eyes faded as she stared at the black screen of her phone.
Jefferson, who had just stepped out of the shower, saw her leaning against the window. âWhatâs the matter, Belle?â
âI-Itâs nothing.â Rayna put her phone away and recomposed herself as she turned to face him. âYou guys were talking about Naomi earlier. Is she still working in Arnaudâs company?â
There was a hint of anger in Jeffersonâs eyes as he replied, âArnaud was the one who orchestrated everything when you went looking for Curtis at the club. I saw the video, so I took revenge on Naomi using the same method. However, Ringo had to take me away because I was feeling unwell. I never saw Naomi ever since.â
âHuh?â Rayna burned bright red when she recalled what happened back then. She felt so embarrassed that she wished she could flog Arnaud to death.
âWhat a shameless pervert!â she muttered angrily through clenched teeth.
âHe was trying to spite me with the video,â Jefferson said. And it sure was effective! The virus spread so rapidly throughout my body that no medication could stop it.
He walked up to Rayna as he continued, âYou donât have to feel bad about it, Belle. Iâm not that old-fashioned. I would love you all the same, even if you were once in love with other men. Iâm willing to accept you and your past. All I care about is whether you love me or not.â
Feeling uncomfortable from how close he was, Rayna took a step back and said, âL-Letâs stop talking about this. Can I ask you a question?â
âYou can ask me as many questions as you like.â
âWell, this one, in particular, is very important. Youâve been keeping Naomi by your side throughout the past few years. Have you two ever slept together?â
Jefferson flashed her a smile when he heard that. âWhy do you ask? Does it bother you a lot?â
Raynaâs eyes went wide as she asked, âD-Donât tell me you slept with her?â
Jefferson was so close to her that she could feel his breath on her cheek. âNo, Iâm not the least bit interested in her. Youâre the only one I seek all my life.â
Rayna breathed a huge sigh of relief. âThatâs good to know.â
After taking a moment to regain her composure, she noticed Jefferson leaning in for a kiss and quickly placed her finger on his lips. âThereâs something important that I need to tell you, Jefferson. Itâs going to be a long conversation, so letâs sit down before I start.â
Jefferson had no choice but to sit down on the couch.
Rayna then pulled up something on her phone as she said, âI wasnât planning on telling you this at first, but Arnaud knows this as well. Given our current situation, he might try to get at you using this information. Iâm telling you about this before he does, so he wonât be able to manipulate your emotions later on.â
The smile on Jeffersonâs face faded when he saw her solemn expression. âIs it about me?â
Rayna nodded. âItâs about your birth.â
âOh, I know that. My mother is married to Kenneth, and her daughter Dorothy is my sister. Dorothy and I are somewhat related by blood, but sheâs loyal to Arnaud. I will not show her any mercy if she tries to stop me,â Jefferson said calmly.
âThatâs not what I wanted to talk about.â
âWhat else is there that I donât know of?â
Rayna felt conflicted when she saw the confused look in his eyes, but she knew she had to tell him. This is to prevent him from being manipulated by Arnaud!
With that in mind, she closed her eyes and handed him the phone. âY-You have a brother.â
