Dear Sweetheart Chapter 293 I Need Your Concern âIt seems weâre pretty in sync with each other.â Curtis chuckled softly. âI was about to look for you, and youâre here.â
Rayna asked, âIs Theodore okay?â
âI think heâs all right.â
The duo went downstairs to a restaurant situated at the center of the hotel. After finding a spot to sit, Rayna told Curtis she ran into Jefferson at the ballroom of the cruise yesterday, and the latter even kissed her.
Curtisâ face darkened when he heard her words. âI was wondering why the ballroom had a blackout at that time. It turned out he got someone to tamper with it in advance.â
It was apparent in his remark that he didnât place the blame on Rayna.
Since the duo had gone through quarrels and silent treatments together, he knew Raynaâs personality well. If she really had something going on with Jefferson, she wouldnât tell him about all that.
Curtis queried, âDid he say anything to you?â
Rayna shook her head and furrowed her brows. âWhenever I ask him something, heâll only stay quiet and trace his reply on my hand with his finger. To be honest, I have never seen him acting so strange before.â
In fact, that cold kiss from him made her feel uneasy.
Curtis said in a calm voice, âAccording to my research on him, he has an elder brother from another mother. His brotherâs mother is from a rich family in Yartran, whereas his mother is from Aploth. His father, Boniel Terblanc, got into an arranged marriage with Yvette Yates, but they had no feelings for each other. Instead, his father fell in love with his mother at first sight at a cocktail reception. After that, he brought her back to his manor.â
âI know. He has mentioned it to me before, but Iâve never seen his elder brother.â Rayna continued, âIt seems his brotherâs mother died of illness, and he hates Jefferson because of that.â
âHis brotherâs mother didnât die of illness, but she took her own life.â Curtis explained the truth to her, âYvette couldnât accept Boniel bringing another woman back home and paying no heed to her, which caused her to suffer from depression. Eventually, she slit her wrist to commit suicide.â
âH-How could it be?â Incredulity washed over Rayna. âDid Jefferson get deceived?â
Curtis hummed in acknowledgment. âAfter Yvette committed suicide, her father was infuriated and blamed Boniel for not taking proper care of his daughter, so he wanted to take revenge on the latter. However, the Terblanc family is too powerful that he canât fight against them. Thus, he got someone to kidnap Jeffersonâs mother when the opportunity arose, creating the scene that her death was caused by a car accident.â
âWhat happened next?â
âOf course, Boniel didnât believe the car accident was the reason for Jeffersonâs motherâs death, but he didnât take any action because he didnât want to make an enemy of the Yates family since he and Yvette have a son too. After that, Boniel never gets married and only focuses on his two sons. As Boniel was loyal to Jeffersonâs mother and favored him, Jeffersonâs brother naturally felt displeased. When he found out about the reason behind his mother, Yvetteâs death, he hated Jefferson so much that he wanted nothing more than to kill the latter.â
Raynaâs heart ached after she heard that. âIt seems Boniel wanted to give his son a happy childhood, so he didnât tell Jefferson the whole story. Do you think Jefferson knows the truth?â
âI bet he knew about that a long time ago.â Curtis took a sip of the hot coffee. âHis brother is vicious. Even if Jefferson had no idea about that matter, his brother would definitely reveal it and take revenge on Jefferson. As an extremist, his brother would have already ended Jefferson if it werenât for fear of exposing himself to Boniel and getting eliminated from being the heir of the Terblanc family.â
âWhat is his brotherâs name?â
âHis name is Cyrus Terblanc.â
Rayna found the name somewhat familiar, but she couldnât remember where she had heard it before. âDoes he has a Chanaean name?â
âI donât think so.â A solemn expression appeared on Curtisâ face as he reminded Rayna, âRegardless of his motive, ignore and avoid him. Thatâs the grudge between their families. It has nothing to do with us.â
âBut...â Rayna pursed her lips. A wave of confusion surged within her as she kept those issues in her heart. However, she didnât know what to say because she couldnât confirm the truthfulness of those matters. Can I accept the truth when I look into them?
Can Curtis take it?
Curtis moved his chair backward and uttered gently, âCome. Come here.â
âWhy should I go there?â Rayna was not used to his tenderness. Despite the fact that she wasnât a coquettish woman, she still got up and slowly made her way toward him.
Curtis dragged her to sit on his lap and hugged her lightly.
Raynaâs cheeks went flush, and she scolded under her breath, âMind your manners. Weâre at the restaurant. Donât make a monkey out of me.â
âYou wonât be embarrassed since weâre sitting in the corner, and plants are shielding us.â Curtis smiled. âI want to hug you because I donât like to see you sad, Mrs. Faymon.â
âCurtis.â She wrapped her arms around his neck before burying her head in his shoulder.
âHmm?â
She murmured, âAlthough Jefferson might be unscrupulous, he has never hurt me. I even think thereâs something fishy behind his imprisonment. If he gets into trouble, I hope you can give him a hand.â
Curtis raised his brows. âI bet youâre the only one who would ask your fiancé to help your ex-boyfriend, huh?â
âJust take it as returning the favor, okay?â Rayna rubbed her cheek against his neck coyly. âWhen I went abroad to study, he helped me a lot and built my connections.â
âSince youâve said so, I canât decline, Mrs. Faymon.â Curtis flashed her a faint smile, and his eyes brimmed with indulgence. âAs long as you are not involved, I will give him a helping hand.â
Rayna gave him a kiss. âThank you, Mr. Faymon.â
âMy pleasure. However, I have something to ask you, and you must answer me honestly.â
âWhat is it?â
âCarl isnât your friendâs son, right?â
âW-Why are you suddenly asking about this?â Rayna let out an awkward chuckle. She felt so guilty that she didnât dare to look into his eyes.
âAs expected, youâll start to feel guilty whenever you lie, and you wouldnât dare to look into my eyes.â Curtis held her by the chin.
âSince you are not responding to my question, Iâll help you to answer it. Heâs Theodoreâs son, am I right?â
Rayna stared at him in a daze. âHow did you find out about that!â
As soon as she finished her words, she held her tongue.
Curtis pinched her chin and sighed, âI hope our children wouldnât take after your IQ.â
âI have a high IQ, okay? I can even learn so many uncommon foreign languages.â Rayna mumbled in displeasure, âFine. I donât mind if the child didnât take after my intelligence, but the child could inherit my beauty.â
âDo you think youâre beautiful?â
Rayna hit him forcefully and put on a sullen expression. âCurtis, do you want to break up with me?â
âOkay, okay. Youâre the most exquisite woman. No one in this world is comparable to you.â Curtis grabbed her hand and planted a kiss on it. âAfter looking at Jasmineâs photo, I realize her eyes look exactly like Carlâs. Plus, you always spend time with Jasmine and prepare gifts for Carl, so I roughly get the idea after thinking it over.â
âNo doubt science students have a sharp memory. You wonât let off even the tiniest bit of information.â Rayna commented, âItâs such a waste that you are not in the criminal investigation department, given your capability.â
âIf thatâs the case, I wonât get to know you.â Curtis smiled. âIn fact, Iâm more than grateful that Iâm here with you.â
Rayna rolled her eyes at him. âDonât be silly. Have you told Theodore about Carl?â
âNo. Itâs pointless for us to disclose it. We should let Jasmine tell him herself.â Curtis continued, âHeâs having a son even before getting married. What an exciting life.â
âThat should be the way, as Theodore is already in his thirties.â
âMe too. Iâm not young anymore.â Curtis stared at her intently. âShouldnât you be concerned about me?â
Rayna couldnât stand such a gaze from him, so she used her hand to cover his eyes. âDonât look at me like that. Youâre making me feel like Iâm the one at fault. Wait for a little longer. Let me earn more money first.â
Curtis was rendered speechless. I canât believe making money is more appealing than being with me. How frustrating.
