Dear Sweetheart Chapter 236 Destroy Your Family After a brief pause, Pamela flashed a small smile. âNot bad.â
Pamela was not impressed by Jessicaâs background, but Jessica seemed to be docile. The latter was also in the design department and would greatly help Wyatt in his job. Because of that, Pamela could still accept her.
âThank you, Mrs. Lopez.â Jessicaâs cheeks flushed red, and the corners of her lips lifted into a huge grin.
Soon, Wyatt came down with Gerald.
Gerald was tall and handsome. His sharp eyes were bursting with life and energy. No one would have guessed that he was over fifty years old. As he chatted with Wyatt, a loving smile was fixed on his face.
âHubby.â Pamela went over to hook her arm over Geraldâs. âDid Wyatt tell you? He brought a girl home today. I quite like her.â
Gerald chuckled. âHow could I have not heard of it? He hasnât shut up about it since he stepped foot into the study.â
âThatâs because I canât wait for you to meet my girlfriend.â Wyatt took Jessicaâs hand and brought her to Gerald. âCan you tone it down with your ferocious expression, Dad? Donât scare my girlfriend away!â Wyatt joked.
âWhen have I ever been ferocious?â Gerald huffed, feigning anger. As his gaze met Jessicaâs, he froze, and the smile on his face stiffened. For a second, he did not move.
With a wide smile, Jessica greeted Gerald politely, âHello, Mr. Lopez.â
Seeing that Gerald did not respond, Pamela gave him a gentle nudge. âHubby, Jessicaâs greeting you.â
âOh. Yes. Right. Hi.â A dark look flickered across Geraldâs expression before he regained his composure. His tone gradually returned to normal. âShe seems nice.â
âWhy, of course! Do you think I have bad taste?â Wyatt was pleased by Geraldâs comment. Disregarding the presence of the housekeepers and his parents, he leaned forward to kiss Jessica on her lips.
âAre you not ashamed to do that in front of so many people?â It was Pamela who asked that question.
âWhatâs there to be ashamed about? Everyone hereâs family.â
The four of them headed to the dining table.
Wyatt pulled out a chair for Jessica and then proceeded to pile food on her plate throughout the entire meal.
When Pamela saw that, she sighed wistfully. âOur sonâs all grown up now. Ignoring his mother now that he got himself a girlfriend.â
âMom, itâs Jessicaâs first time here. Iâm just worried that sheâll be nervous and making sure that sheâs comfortable.â With that said, Wyatt quickly placed some food on Pamelaâs plate. âYour position in my heart is irreplaceable. Youâre the best!â
Wyattâs sweet words caused Pamela to smile from ear to ear.
âHubby, why are you so quiet?â Upon noticing that Gerald looked gloomy, Pamela leaned closer to him and whispered, âJessicaâs quite all right, and sheâs hardworking. What do you think?â
âI donât think thereâs anything special about her.â Gerald peered at the opposite end of the table. His tone became even colder when he saw how close Wyatt and Jessica were. âDonât you know Wyattâs personality? Itâs probably just a fling.â
Contrarily, Pamela disagreed. âI donât think so. This is the first time Wyatt has brought a girl back for a meal. Judging from your dark expression, Iâm assuming that youâre unhappy about Jessicaâs family background?â
Gerald hummed in agreement. âHer background is not the best. Besides, Iâm afraid that itâs just a fling for Wyatt. If thatâs the case, he shouldnât have brought her home for a meal. Otherwise, you would get attached to her. Imagine how youâll feel if they break up.â
After contemplating for a while, Pamela began to think that Gerald was making sense.
She had grown quite fond of Jessica. The latter was smart and obedient. Nonetheless, if Wyatt was just playing around, there was nothing much that Pamela could do about it.
Seeing that Jessica was heading to the kitchen, Gerald quickly got up from his seat. âIâm going to go get some water.â
Pamela was perplexed. âWhy not just ask the housekeeper to get you a glass?â
âItâs okay. Iâll do it myself.â
With huge strides, Gerald hurried off. In the kitchen, he caught sight of Jessica rummaging through the drawers, looking for something. Upon entering, he closed the door behind him slightly to prevent the people in the dining area from seeing what was happening. Just then, Jessica turned around.
âAre you here to get something, Mr. Lopez?â
âYouâre her younger sister, arenât you? You two look very alike.â With two huge strides, Gerald stood in front of Jessica. His sharp gaze looked as though it was piercing through her soul. âState your price. How much do you want?â
âI have no idea what youâre talking about, Mr. Lopez.â Jessica flashed him a meek smile.
All of a sudden, Gerald reached out and grabbed Jessica by her chin with great force. His voice dropped an octave. âLittle girl, Iâm warning you. Youâd better make a smart choice. Iâve walked on this earth longer than you have.â
Unfazed, Jessica stared right back at him. She mocked, âThatâs true, and youâll leave this earth before me as well!â
âI know my son is not serious about you.â Gerald increased the strength of his grip. âState a number, break up with him, and Iâll pretend Iâve never seen you today.â
âIâve told you that I donât need money.â
Gerald narrowed his eyes, causing him to look even more intimidating. âNot taking the generous offer? Do you want to play with me?â
âWhy not? After all, arenât you skilled at playing?â Jessica chuckled. âHow about we use your family as a bargaining chip? What do you think?â
âDo you really think I wonât lay a hand on you?â
âOf course youâd dare to! Everything revolves around you. What do you have to be afraid of?â Jessica was pleased with the sight of Geraldâs face distorting in anger. A low chuckle escaped her lips.
After regaining her composure, she locked gazes with Gerald and spat out her words one by one, âBe my guest. After all, heâs your only son. If I can make him go down with you, itâll be worth it.â She smirked. âGerald Lopez, I will destroy your family!â
Jessicaâs voice was calm, and her black eyes shone. Her words caused Geraldâs glare to intensify. He wanted nothing more than to strangle her on the spot.
Just then, footsteps could be heard from the door.
Gerald immediately let go of Jessica. With a cup in his hand, he pretended to fill it with water. The door flung open the moment he turned around.
âI heard some commotion. Everything all right?â Wyatt stepped into the kitchen, quickly catching sight of Jessicaâs red and swollen chin. He quickly approached her. âDid you actually hit something?â
âMm-hmm. I hit the door,â Jessica mumbled. âThe quality of your furniture sure is top-notch.â
Wyattâs heart squeezed in pain as he quickly got some ice for Jessica and scolded Gerald lightly, âYouâre in here as well, Dad.
Why didnât you remind your daughter-in-law to be more careful?â
âItâs my fault. I wasnât paying attention.â Jessica pulled him out of the kitchen. âCome on, letâs continue eating.â
Geraldâs expression was dark.
Pamela was startled to see Jessicaâs swollen chin as well. When she asked what had happened, Wyatt would have blamed Gerald again if Jessica hadnât stopped him from doing so.
Once everyone was almost through with their meals, Wyatt asked Pamela, âMom, are you pleased with this daughter-in-law?â
âOh boy, daughter-in-law, huh?â teased Pamela. âWhat happens if Iâm not pleased with her?â
Wyatt gasped dramatically. âMom, Iâve searched high and low, far and near, to find you a daughter-in-law! You wouldnât find anyone better on the face of this planet! You have to be pleased with her!â
Pamela laughed. âIâm just messing with you. Iâm very pleased with her.â
âThatâs great becauseââWyatt took out a small box from his pocket and opened it. Inside the box was a diamond ring. The huge diamond caught everyoneâs eyes instantlyââweâre getting engaged!â
The proposal was so sudden that it stunned Gerald, Pamela, and even Jessica.
Jessica was beyond shocked.
She had always viewed Wyatt as the solution to her problems. She had merely planned to be with him to execute her revenge plan. Never had she imagined Wyatt bringing her to meet his parents, much less proposing to her with an actual diamond ring.
Oblivious to Jessicaâs thoughts, Wyatt took the ring out of the box and said seriously, âJessica, I really, really like you. Every time Iâm with you, I can only think about wanting to spend the rest of my life with you. Even so, I donât really like the idea of marriage.
If you donât mind, letâs get engaged first, and wait tillââ
âWhat nonsense!â Gerald slammed his palm onto the table, interrupting Wyattâs proposal. âWyatt, you should be focusing on your career and taking care of the family business!â
âGetting engaged is not going to affect my career,â Wyatt argued.
Gerald did not budge. âNo! Youâre too playful! Getting engaged might give her false hopes and hurt her feelings!â
