Dear Sweetheart Chapter 220 I Will Swallow This Liquor Bottle The news of Rayna and Emma chatting at a cafe reached Curtis in just an hour, turning Curtisâ face as grim as death during a meeting.
All the executives in the conference room immediately shrank into their seats for fear of further upsetting the man.
âThe meetingâs over!â With that, Curtis pushed his chair away and left the room before hurriedly dialing Theodoreâs phone number.
At that moment, he was nothing if not troubled.
Curtis could not reach Theodore even after calling the man twice, unfortunately. On top of that, he received a few documents from Gabriel that required his immediate attention and had to join an international video conference, so he had no choice but to suppress his emotions until the business at hand was taken care of.
Sometime past six oâclock in the evening, Wyatt called. âCurtis, weâre waiting for you at the usual place! Did you see the news this morning? That was really something, huh?â
âShut up,â ordered Curtis sternly before inquiring, âIs Theodore with you?â
âYeah!â
After Curtis was done handling the work at hand, he drove over to the clubhouse and entered the usual VIP room filled with people he knew well.
âHey, Curtis is here!â Wyatt removed his long legs from the table to make room for Curtis and poured the man a glass of brandy.
âWould you like some?â
âNo.â Curtis rejected by pushing the glass away.
âD*mn! I just got this delivered from Epea two days ago. Why would someone who appreciates good alcohol like you turn it down? Do you think itâs not high-end enough for you, Curtis?â responded Wyatt with an exaggerated expression.
With a half-smile, Jeremy teased, âIt has more to do with the high alcohol percentage of the brandy than whether the drink is high-end enough. Why would Curtis want to get drunk in front of us?â
âOh, I understand now.â Wyatt smiled deviously at Curtis. âNo wonder you refuse to drink. Itâs because Ms. Garland isnât around.â
âCurtis, you can drink if you want to,â uttered Jeremy before taking a pill out of a small box. âI got this from the research center.
You wonât ever get drunk again after taking it.â
Then, Wyatt thoughtfully poured Curtis a glass of warm water to go with the pill. âWater will make it easier to swallow.â
âYou just wasted your capitalistsâ money on useless research!â scoffed Curtis.
âHow is a pill that could prevent someone from getting drunk useless?â asked Jeremy. âSince itâs unavailable in the market, many would pay a fortune to get some.â
âI think Curtis doesnât want it because heâs afraid that it would get in the way of his relationship with Ms. Garland,â stated Wyatt directly.
In response, Curtis looked daggers at the man. âYou sure do have a lot to say, donât you? Maybe I should sew your mouth shut.â
After Wyatt sighed and slumped into the couch, Curtis looked around for Theodore. âWhereâs Theodore?â
âHe went out to answer a call,â replied Jeremy. âHis phone rang before we could ask him about the news. Then, you arrived.â
âTheodore couldnât have fallen for Rayna, could he?â Wyatt inquired curiously like a gossipmonger while touching his lips. âI couldnât tell at all since he always treated Rayna so coldly.â
âFirst, you announced that youâd be marrying Ms. Sanders next month. Then, Theodore was rumored to be marrying Ms.
Garland soon. What the heck is going on?â Jeremy felt as though he was about to have a serious headache.
âCurtis, you know Theodore still hasnât gotten over Ms. Sanders, right? Whatâs going on between you two? Are you fighting over a woman?â questioned Jeremy while giving Curtis a strange look.
âJasmine needs my help to get six percent of the shares from Mr. Sanders, so as soon as she gets it, weâll hold a press conference to clarify our relationship to the public,â explained Curtis calmly.
Being the troublemaker that he was, Wyatt uttered, âCurtis, youâve always been heartless. You donât seem to have any problem using Ms. Garland, so why would you risk your reputation to help Ms. Sanders? Have you fallen for her?â
Click! Suddenly, the door to the room opened, and Theodore walked in with his long legs. Even though he had heard Wyattâs words, his face remained stoic.
âTheodore, care to explain what the morning news was about?â Curtis was the first to question Theodore after he and the others instinctively shifted their attention to the man.
Despite knowing that Theodore was not the type of person Rayna would fall for, Curtis still felt uncomfortable after seeing the news.
âMy mother saw me meeting with Rayna last time.â Theodore did not bring up the contract. âShe thought I had feelings for Rayna, so she went to Rayna and even got a reporter involved.â
âHaha! Your mother did all that just to force you to get married, huh? Sheâs pretty crafty if nothing else,â remarked Wyatt, amused by what he had heard. âIs she worried that you canât find yourself a wife?â
Curtisâ eyebrows finally relaxed after listening to Theodore. âSince itâs only a misunderstanding, Iâll let the Public Relations Department handle the situation.â
âNo need.â Theodore turned down the offer. âIâll handle it. Youâre marrying Ms. Sanders next month, so I donât want you to be connected to any scandal.â
âTheodore, the relationship between Ms. Sanders and me is purely professional,â explained Curtis because he knew Theodore had misunderstood. âWe only arranged for a fake marriage so she could get Sanders Groupâs shares.â
A fake marriage? So they donât have feelings for each other? Theodore furrowed his eyebrows tightly in silence.
âTheodore, I donât want you to misunderstand my relationship with Ms. Sanders. In fact, I only agreed to help her because of you,â added Curtis.
âCurtis, Ms. Sanders promised you something, didnât she?â Jeremy was clever, so he guessed there was more to Curtisâ
cooperation with Jasmine than the man let on. âKnowing Theodoreâs relationship with her, you wouldnât have worked with her for no good reason.â
âA high-speed railway station is to be built in the eastern district, and bidding has begun,â Curtis revealed since there was no point in hiding the truth.
âWell, Iâll be d*mned! Thatâs quite the lionâs share!â With his interest piqued, Wyatt curiously inquired, âBut why have I never heard you mention this during the meetings? Iâm at Faymon Group too.â
âThatâs because Curtis is trying to help a certain someoneâs company,â chimed in Jeremy with a half-smile.
âA certain someone... Hatchair Group?â Wyatt was so shocked that he spewed his brandy. âIâll swallow this liquor bottle if you still deny that you have feelings for Ms. Garland, Curtis!â
âTheodore and Curtis may look heartless, but theyâre actually hopeless romantics,â stated Jeremy with a sigh. âIâm glad we cleared things up today. Otherwise...â
âOtherwise, weâd probably get one heck of a show!â joked Wyatt, chuckling.
Curtis ignored the others and turned to Theodore instead. âIâve already told you everything. All you have to do is say the word, and Iâll stop working with Ms. Sanders immediately; weâll cancel the fake marriage.â
However, Theodore simply kept quiet and stared blankly at the floor.
Ten seconds later, the glass in his hand suddenly shattered. âWhat did I do to deserve to fall under her spell?â Theodore could not understand why his path had to be intertwined with Jasmineâs again.
âWhy donât you tell me about you and Ms. Sanders, Theodore? Let me help you with your trouble.â Wyatt then leaned in and acted as if he was a caring brother.
In response, Theodore glared at the man. âGet the heck away from me!â
âCome on. I just want to be helpful.â
âGet lost!â
Just when Wyatt was grumbling while moving back to his seat, somebody suddenly kicked the door open.
The person who stormed in was none other than Jessica.
After finding Wyatt, she started swinging her handbag at the man as tears flowed down her cheeks. âIf you wanted to break up with me, you couldâve just told me! You didnât have to be such a jerk!â
