Seeing Victoriaâs embarrassment, Maximilian said without hesitation, âYour present is very considerate, thank you!â
âMaximilianâ¦â Victoria looked at Maximilian with anger.
Whatâs wrong with him today?
When he should behave himself, he didnât; when he should keep his mouth shut, he talked. It really pissed her off.
âOK, it is settled then. I will arrange the food to be delivered to your home tomorrow. I will also send the chefs you need for housewarming banquet. Only my chefs can bring out the essence of the ingredients. Ordinary chefs would only destroy the precious food,â Preston said, while fanning his folding fan, acting likes a gentleman.
What was done was done. Victoria could do nothing but thanked Preston. She then held Maximilianâs hand and left in a hurry.
Seeing them leaving, Preston folded his fan. Hatred flashed through his eyes, âSince you are disrespectful to me, I will make sure you live like hell in the future.â
Preston was whispering to himself when Rees, the boss of the tavern trotted up to him and bowed then said, âYoung Master.â
âGo and check about Maximilian to see who his enemies are.â Preston said coldly.
Rees smiled and lower his voice, âNo need to check, everybody in the circle knew about this. Hackett said he wants Maximilian died and has mobilized a lot of people. It was said that people from Zalun Temple also want to kill Maximilian. This young man is really good at messing around, butâ¦â
âBut what?â Preston asked coldly.
âBut it seems Maximilian is not an ordinary people; otherwise Hackett will not take such a big move.â
Prestonâs eyes squinted and he contemplated for a while.
If Maximilian was an ordinary civilian, Hackett would have killed him long ago. There was no need for him to drag in so many people. Maximilian must be powerful, so Hackett made such a fuss.
Even though Preston was jealous, he completely calmed down now.
âWhat else do you know? Any other things he has done?â
âIt is said Maximilian had a fight with the eighth dragon lord, Master Benedict. Master Benedict lost through and also lost his power and influence in the Dragon Sect soon after. I donât know the details, but people said it involved conflicts of interest within the Dragon Sect.â
âThe Dragon Sect?â Preston mumbled and his face tightened.
Preston once wanted to use the influence of Dragon Sect, but could not get in touch with the important figures for several reasons.
Many families and powerful people wanted to get in touch with the Dragon Sect and the Richardson family was too weak to be noticed by it.
After hearing what Rees just said, an idea came to Prestonâs mind.
Since there were conflicts between Maximilian and Master Benedict, and the latter lost his influences because of Maximilian, maybe he could get in touch with Master Benedict and see what he could do.
There was a saying that it was difficult to reach out a helpful hand when someone was in need.
It was time to reach out a helpful hand to Master Benedict. When he regained his power and influence, Preston would make a fortune for sure.
Even if Master Benedict failed eventually, Preston would not lose anything since Maximilian had to be handled eventually.
Preston made his decision and said to Rees, âSend an invitation to Master Benedict and I want to invite him for dinner.â
âYou want to invite Master Benedict?â Rees looked at Preston with astonishment.
âYes, any problem?â
Rees dared not to retort and began immediately looking for ways to get in touch with Master Benedict.
Maximilian sat in the passenger seat and listened quietly to Victoriaâs complaint.
âWhy did you accept his gifts? You didnât see what he wanted?â
âOf course I did! That was why I accepted his gifts. â Maximilian said calmly.
âWhatâ¦what are you thinking?â Victoria frowned. She felt a bit panicked that things got out of control.
âWhat else can I think? Some barbarian got interested in my wife, and I donât want that to happen, so I break his bone. Accepted his gifts and allowed him to show his intention. Then I will have a reason to teach him a lesson.â
Victoria rolled her eyes and sighted, âYou want to teach him a lesson, but I am worried about the banquet. How about we cancel the banquet?â
Victoria thought if she could cancel the banquet, all troubles will be gone, which is the most appropriate way to solve everything.
But all invitations were sent out and relatives and friends were noticed, it was impossible to cancel now.
Maximilian smiled and gently stoked Victoriaâs head, then he said, âDonât worry. I know whatâs best for us. As long as you trust me, I will be your safe harbor. â
Victoria took a deep look at Maximilian and nodded, âI trust you.â
Maximilian gently pinched Victoriaâs face.
His phone rang when he was about to speak. He took out his phone and frowned when he saw the caller. He pressed answer but did not speak.
âMaximilian, surprise, surprise.â a chill voice came from the phone.
âWhat did you do to Lane?â
âHe is dead, of course. The Bates family now depends on me. You want the Bates familyâs help and they are no more than rubbish to me.â Hackett said ruthlessly.
Maximilianâs heart jolted, knowing that everyone in the Bates family must have suffered misfortune.
âWhy are you so quite? Too scare to speak? This is just a small warning. Donât make the housewarming banquet of the Griffith family a killing field. Meet me at the Laozi Temple midnight tonight. â
âThe Laozi Temple?â Maximilian said with uncertainty. There was no temple in the south of the city.
âYes, the temple. I did not kill the little beauty Amira. She will be your gift if you come tonight. â Hackett laughed and squeezed Amiraâs jaw, and Amira let out a scream of pain.
âDid you hear that? Come tonight on time; otherwise, she will end up in a brothel. â
