Chapter 61: Chapter 43

The Girl They Never NoticedWords: 18251

"Uh, guys!" I screamed for the twentieth time, trying to get their attention.

Both officers were screaming at Jace and Ashton to put down the fire crackers before they burn the house.

I swear, I'm friends with nincompoops.

Allow me to set the scene.

Sabrina and Brenda flipped a couch and were hiding behind it, pillows covering their heads.

I wonder what that's gonna protect.

Anyways.

McDaniels was holding a metal tray to protect himself from the sparks.

"Ross put that thing down before we all die in here!" He said, raising the tray to his face.

Aaron was huddled in the corner of the room, behind the suicidal maniacs we call friends. He held his knees to his chest, as he prayed to dear God to get him out of there alive.

Sebastian was behind an armchair. He looked absolutely done with life. He just sat there, crossing his leg.

Jace and Ashton both had a ton of firecrackers tied to a string and were both just spinning them around. Sparks flew everywhere to the point where it almost started a fire.

"Hey bro?!" Said Jace, as he turned around like the idiot that he always will be.

"Yeah bro?" Replied Ashton, trying to balance himself so he wouldn't fall from the dizziness.

"Do you think Taylor Swift would make us famous?"

"I don't know. Why?"

"Because we brought her song to life."

"Which one?"

"Duh! Sparks fly!"

All Jaycee did was laugh so hard he fell on his shoulder and it started to hurt him again.

Note to self: make him an arm sling.

Without thinking, I ran to the kitchen. It took me about three different turns to get there. I searched four cabinets before I finally found a huge pot. I filled it with water, then ran straight towards the living room.

I passed Brenda and Sabrina, pushed McDaniels to the side, and stopped in front of the spinning clowns.

One...

Two...

Three...

I poured the entire pot of cold water on them. The girliest, most unholy shriek left both of their mouths simultaneously.

"What the- Lexi!! What on earth was that for?!" Screamed Jace.

"You were going to burn the house down! I don't know about you buddy, but I've had enough encounters with death to last me a lifetime!" I screamed.

"Oh God this is classic." Laughed Jaycee as he held his phone. "If you heard yourself screaming, you would've buried your heads for three years!"

"Why the hell would you even take a video of that?..." trailed Ashton. Then his eyes widened in realization. "Dude! Last time he took a video of me, he threatened me into doing a lot of things! He even made me wear a cheerleading outfit into the boys' locker room!" He said to Jace, who also widened his eyes so big I thought they would've popped off.

Before anyone could react, a huge pillow fell on both boys, causing them to slip on the water around them and they both fell on their back.

"If anyone one of you losers even thinks about doing something like that again, I'll be throwing a whole damn couch next time! Dimwits!" Said Brenda, as Sabrina held her back from charging at them.

"Ow!" Said Jaycee next to me. He held his broken-supposed-to-be-healing arm in pain.

I looked around me to find something to use as a temporary sling. I found one lying outside Jace's bag, so I took it and put it around Jaycee's hand.

"If you take this off, I will personally break your arm again. Okay?" I said, as I secured it into place.

"Yes ma'am!" He said, smiling.

"Okay guys!" I started, getting their attention. "We need to go sit in a place so we could talk."

"Let's go to the tv room down the stairs before the basement. It has a huge tv and a fire hole in the middle of it." Said Jace, soaked as heck.

"I'll take Ashton and change our clothes and we'll meet you there."

"Wait! Bon fire inside the house? Do we have marshmallows?" Said Aaron.

"Yeah we do. Unless..." Said Sebastian, pointing at our idiot duo, "did you eat them too? Because I wouldn't want to raise their hopes up then find out that you two ate them as salad before lunch."

"Relax, jeez! Why do you always accuse us?! We're innocent." Started Jace, looking baffled; his hair matted to his forehead.

"Yes we did. But..." he said, lifting his index finger, stopping Sebastian from throwing his shoes at his face, "the chairs around the fire have drawers built in them. When you open them, there are marshmallows, candies, crackers, whatever campfire anything you want." He said as he was interrupted with a sneeze.

"You need to go change before you get sick hun." Said Brenda, her face softening from the suicidal glare she had on a few seconds ago.

"Awww you are worried about me!" Said Jace, running to hug her; his face lighting up like the fourth of July.

She held out her hand to stop him from getting any closer.

"I just don't want to catch whatever crazy disease you're about to catch." She said, a little playfulness in her eyes.

They stood there, smirking at each other, Sebastian clearly becoming uncomfortable with each passing second.

"Whatever you say buttercup." Said Jace, his annoying smirk making an appearance.

"Um ok, if whatever this was is done, can you please go and change, and meet us wherever you said you'll meet us." Said Sebastian in annoyance as he passed by Jace, bumping his shoulder in the process.

His healing shoulder.

He even lightly pushed me to the side without apologizing.

"What is up with Sebastian." I asked Jaycee as we headed towards the tv room. "He's been acting weird whenever there was even a minor interaction between Brenda and Jace. How long was I gone for and what exactly did I miss?"

"Well something happened and it really put a strain on them. They're no longer on tolerating-each-other terms. And Jace.."

"He likes her doesn't he?" I finished for him.

"Since before I can even remember. That's why Sebastian is becoming kind of hostile towards him. He really really cares about her Lexa and losing her is something he never anticipated. It's tearing him apart but he's too hurt and or proud to show it." He said, as we entered the overly huge room.

I think now I see why Jace's parents want him to be an architect. I mean it's still his choice, but I understand.

This room is so beautiful and unique and very very modern! It's a few steps down from the normal floor and a few steps higher than the basement.

As soon as you walked through the door, there's a small kitchenette to your right and a beautiful glass dining table to your left. The kitchenette has five  long stools around the island with state of the art kitchen appliances.

As you walked forward, there are a few steps leading a little downwards. Down those few steps are huge, black, circular sofas facing an indoor bonfire.

A little after those sofas, was a huge plasma screen HDTV. Behind the TV was a huge set of transparent sliding doors, overlooking the city. The view was breathtaking and so beautiful.

Jaycee and I sat facing the TV, Sabrina sat next to me, Aaron next to her and Brenda next to him. Sebastian sat next to Jaycee and McDaniels next to him.

"Ok Alexis, what exactly did you want to say?" Said Sebastian, putting his arms around the sofa.

"We need to wait until Ash and Jace come back." Said McDaniels.

"Who the hell gives a damn about them? Get on with it!" He screamed, causing me to flinch.

"Hey man, what the hell?" Said Jaycee, but he contained himself when I put my hand on his knees.

"I'm sick and tired of looking after you brats! I'm a frickin police officer not a dang babysitter!" He said, getting up.

"Well then why don't you leave? Isn't that what you're good at doing anyways? Putting your needs in front of others and stepping all over their feelings? " Said Brenda, crossing her arms.

He just stared at her with so much pain and remorse that my own heart bled for him.

"Sebastian. We really thank you for protecting us and I never thanked you for saving my life that night. You don't know how much that meant to me. So thank you. But I still need to wait for Jace and Ashton to come so they can be kept in the loop. Ok?" I said, trying my best to sympathize.

"Ok." He breathed out, as he sat next to McDaniels. From where I was sitting, it almost seemed like he was tearing up. I wish I knew what happened between them.

We sat in awkward silence for a few more seconds before a lady- who I assume was the housekeeper- came with a golden push-tray filled with three mini chocolate fountains, skewers, strawberries, marshmallows, chocolate, crackers, and what I think was chocolate milkshakes.

"Thank you so much Andreya!" Said Jace as entered the room with Ashton on his trail.

"What's up with everyone? Is everything ok?" Said Jace, as he sat away from Sebastian.

"Yeah everything is fine Jace. Listen. I called Annabelle a while ago, and I told her that I'll send her our address tomorrow."

"What? Why? Why would you do that? I thought you said you wanted to save your brother!" They said one after the other.

"Can you all calm down!" I screamed, causing them to shut their pie holes instantly.

"I have lost enough people trying to fight this! You guys mean way more to me than anything in this world and I am not going to endanger your lives. Now or ever.

I called her and I told her that I wanted to spend this day with you guys and that tomorrow I'll send her our location. Although," I said, this time looking at the officers, "I think they already know where we are.

So now we'll let the feds find my brother because well, that's their job, and all that we could do is stick together and enjoy our last few months together." I said as I sat down next to Jaycee.

"And enjoy it we shall!" Said Jace, as he dipped a couple...dozen marshmallows in chocolate and stuffed them all in his yapper.

All of them.

All.

Of.

Them.

We spent the next hour eating in a somewhat awkward yet comforting silence, where someone would say a small joke here and there.

I couldn't take this any longer.

"So guys! Why don't we do something?" I say, in an attempt to at least lighting up the mood.

"Like what?" Said Aaron, almost dozing off.

"Hmmm. How about we share our most treasured memories of each other?" Said Sabrina as she crossed her legs on the sofa.

"Oh God! Another touchy feely conversation in one day! How much more of these could we take! You know what? I'm stepping out to breathe in oxygen! Yeesh." Said Sebastian as he went outside.

"Yo! You're not leaving me alone here! Wait up!" Said McDaniels as he literally sped out like his whole life depended on it.

Which maybe it did.

"Whatever. Let me start!" Said Brenda, jumping in her place.

"So I remember once in middle school- I think grade eight- someone sent me a valentine day pack since I was apparently the only one without anything that day! It was a small box of black and white chocolates, a beautiful bouquet of white lilies, a beautiful golden heart pendant and a letter." She trailed off, clutching the necklace she was wearing.

"Wait. Is that the same necklace you're wearing now?" Sabrina asked, squealing like a little girl.

"Yes! I've been wearing it ever since. Whoever sent it is literally the sweetest and most kindest person out there because what they wrote is still something I have kept on my dresser. It said:

"Your beauty truly captured me

You're everything I ever see

You're beautiful the way you are

And in my sky, you're the only star

So on Valentines Day this year

I wish you never shed a tear

I know you might not feel the same

And unfortunately I can't tell you my name."

"That was so beautiful! I seriously wonder who sent that! And how on earth do you have it memorized? That was about five years ago!" Asked Sabrina.

I had a very strong feeling as to who, so I looked at the one person who might've actually written them. He was blushing and smiling like a little adorable boy. When he noticed me looking, his eyes widened and he became redder. He slightly shook his head, as if telling me to not say anything.

I smiled and just nodded, Jaycee chuckling next to me.

"Baby love, we gotta let it grow now don't we?" He whispered in my ear, causing my to shiver.

I knew my friend though, and I know that she's very smart, and by the way she emphasized on the word "someone", I have a good feeling that she already knows who it was that sent her that letter ages ago.

"Okay! My turn!" Started Sabrina. "This was the day I first became friends with Jaycee. This horribly mean kid just pushed me on the sand castle that I've been building and called me a big eyed crayon eater. So, I cried because I hate being called names. Jaycee saw me crying, so he took a full bucket of sand and threw it on the kid's head, and also took a white crayon and ate it! He told the kid that eating crayons is going to become a trend someday. Ever since, we've been the bestest of friends." She smiled, looking at him.

"Awwww I remember that day! Good ol' times. I love you Reena!" He said as they smiled to each other.

"Love you too Jay!"

"Ok so mine isn't lovey dovey or anything like that. It was a story that happened when we were in the third grade. So Ashton and I were known as the Double-A back then, we did everything together; homework, detention, projects, even ate together! So, one day, Ashton made this girl cry because he called her pretty - don't ask. So he gave him detention and also gave me! Like what the heck did I even do? He said 'well you two do everything  together anyways, I'm doing this as a precaution.' And ever since, we've been pretty strong friends; raising hell wherever we go." Finished Aaron as he fist bumped Ashton.

We all laughed so hard. Man, these are the moments that truly count in life.

"Okay Ash, you're up!" Said Jace.

"Well, my memory was meeting Jace for the first time." Started Ashton as he smiled at our dorky friend.

"It was kindergarten if I remember correctly. I was sitting all alone and this douche was sitting with his friends; laughing at me. I didn't really care much, so I ignored them. Of course, they didn't like being ignored, so they tried pranking me.

The worst one was when Jace put a lego under my chair, and when I wanted to sit down, he pulled the chair and I literally crashed on the lego piece. I cried for three and half hours, Jace by my side telling me to be quiet and he'll buy me ice cream."

"Well? Did you give in?" Asked Jaycee, before he added, "what am I asking, of course you did!"

"Well this was ice cream we were talking about! Crying could wait! So, I ate the ice cream, started crying again and made him give me his ice cream too!" Said Ashton, chuckling to himself.

Jace looked very annoyed, "I can't believe I fell for that!" He said, smacking Ashton's head.

"Good old times man." Said Jace.

"For you maybe!" Replied Ashton.

"It's your turn Jace!" I said, wanting to hear his story so badly.

"Um, I don't exactly have a happy memory..." he trailed off, bending his head in sorrow.

"Well, what about something that made you happy?" I asked softly.

"Listen guys, ever since middle school everyone's been like 'oh that's Jace' or 'you need to watch out for Jace' or 'stay away from that guy'. It's been like that for a very long time. I've never had anyone that I could even remotely call a friend other than CJ.

I bet that even my parents and their descendants can't stand me. Probably that's the reason I've been waiting for University to start since forever because no one knows me there. No one can say 'It's that kid from back when. The one that everybody couldn't stand. Satan's forgotten child.'"

Jaycee chuckled, but I jabbed his ribs to shut him up.

Jace continued. "But, if there is one good thing that happened to me in all of my high school years, it would definitely be meeting Alexis."

I shot my head up to him, with a questioning look.

"Yeah. You changed me Lexi. You came into my life and ever since I've become someone different. I care more about my studies, people's feelings, and well...life. Because of you, I have a family I can depend on..."

"That's still debatable." Said Jaycee. I jabbed him in his ribs again.

"Ow! My ribs woman! God damn!"

"Please continue. That was beautiful Jay." I motioned for Jace to continue.

"Hey! Jay's my name!" Whined Jaycee.

"Oh put a sock in it!" Said Sabrina.

Jaycee pouted, a look of pure annoyance on his face.

"All I want to say, is thank you Lexi! You changed my life." He finished, with a smile."

"Awwww you're welcome Jace. It's my pleasure." I said, almost in tears.

Jaycee next to me muttered something alone the lines of "someone please shoot me."

"Ok blabber face, it's your turn." Said Brenda.

"Hmmm." He said, closing his eyes.

"Once when I was a kid, I was skateboarding in the house which, according to mom is strictly prohibited. Of course, I broke three vases and my dad's precious detective of the year trophy. Needless to say, I was grounded for a whole month and I wasn't allowed to go out. I was so bummed because they also took my playstation and nintendo.

So all I did was sit in my room, doors and curtains closed. Sebastian at that time was a junior. He kept coming to my room and begging me to lighten up. I closed myself from everyone hoping that my parents would feel bad for me; but nope.

So Sebastian kept sneaking me out every single night to play at the skate park, and afterwards he would take me for dinner. He even had my back when our parents asked where I was. It may not matter to him and he may not even remember it, but for me, it's something that made me respect him very much." He said, smiling his breathtaking smile.

"Of course I remember it!" Said a voice from the shadows.

"I never thought that you would remember it bro." Said Sebastian as he sat next to his brother.

"Of course I do. I always will." He said, as he side hugged Sebastian.

"Ok Lexi, it's your turn!" Said Ashton.

"There isn't anything in this world more important to me than my family; which is you guys. So I would say that this moment here, is something I know I would always look back at with smiles. You guys, yes even you Royce and McDaniels, are what my happy place is at. Of course. As soon as my parents and CJ return, I don't think I could ever ask for anything." I said, as Jaycee tightened his arms around my shoulders, kissing my head.
