Chapter 27: Chapter 17

The Girl They Never NoticedWords: 9890

That necklace!

I knew I saw it somewhere!!

My mom wore it in her old pictures!

"Mom! Where'd you get this necklace from??" I said hoping on the bed next to them.

"Um, it was a custom made present your dad got me for our engagement. Why?" She asked, her face regaining its normal color.

"Custom? As in there isn't any necklace like it in the world?!" I ask, feeling ecstatic at my discovery.

"Well there could've been, but the guy who made it died of a stroke a month later."

"Where is it now? Do you have it?"

"It was lost sometime when we were in Canada. Why do you ask honey?"

I couldn't tell her just yet. I needed to be sure first of all.

"Nothing mom I'm just asking. So this whole story with Francis is the main reason you put a GPS on my car before giving it to me on my birthday?"

They looked at each other, laughing like they've been caught sneaking out past curfew.

"How did you even figure that one out?" My dad asked, ruffling my hair.

"Daaaad! I overheard you guys talking about it." I said getting up to hug them; after I tamed my hair.

"I just want to say that I'm really proud of you guys for staying strong after everything that you've been through. And," I continue, looking at my dad, "what you said about not wanting to lose me too at the hospital makes so much sense."

"Is there anything you don't notice?" He exclaims, hugging me back.

"And honestly honey, we're very proud of the girl you've become and your mom and I decided that we'll be leaving you the companies regardless of what major you choose to study. We'll even support you even if you choose to study in Ireland." He said, smiling.

"What?! Are you guys serious!!" I was excited for a second but then I gained a bit of composure.

"No. I want to stay here with you guys all the time. I'll apply to universities in the country, but not in the state. I don't think I can stand being away from you guys for that long. Now if you'll excuse me I have a friend I need to visit."

"You literally just came from school." Said my mom.

"I know! I'll be right back I promise."

I made my way to my car with the photos in my hand, saying hi to Annabelle on the way out. God knows where Lexwith is. He only appears in front of you when he's needed; like a creepy real life Nanny McPhee.

Hoping in my car, I realize that I have no idea where CJ lives. I thought about texting Jaycee for the address, but since he and I aren't exactly on speaking terms, i thought about asking Jace.

To: Spawn of Satan 👹

Hey Satan Jr.! Do you by any chance know where CJ lives?

He almost answered instantaneously; so much for studying.

From: Spawn of Satan 👹

Ya, he's actually staying with me for the time being. Why?

To: Spawn of Satan 👹

Then what's your address.

From: Spawn of Satan 👹

3938 Willowcreek Boulevard

I entered that into my GPS and started my car; contemplating how I would even approach this subject.

My thoughts were interrupted when my phone rang. Who's the caller you ask?

Jay(cee me rolling)👩🏽‍🚀

A: Yes?

J: Alexis?

A: Nope, the queen of all that is stupid. How may I be of assistance.

J: Please don't be like that.

A: You verbally attacked me without even knowing my reason for doing what I did. Whatever. What do you want?

J: I really need to talk to you. Are you free?

A: No.

J: You sound like you're in a car. Where are you going?

A: As a matter of fact I'm heading over to Jace's.

J: ........

A: You still there?

J: Whatever. Text me when you're done.

And with that he hung up. I don't understand boys sometimes. 15 minutes later, I was pulling over at Jace's beautiful mansion. I mean, I know his parents are architects but wow this is amazing.

I hopped off my car, locked it, took a deep breath, then rang the doorbell.

"Yes may I help yo-OMG a girl!! Jace!!! You never told me you have human friends!! You never told me you had friends at all!!!" Screamed a lady who I don't recognize. She seems to be in her early fifties, with grey hair, and big round eyeglasses.

"Come in darling. Come in! I'm Isabella; the person keeping this household together." She ushered my inside, closing the door behind me. She then lead me to a lavish living room with a huge chandelier coming down the middle. I saw Jace coming up from what I assumed would be the basement.

"Hey there Lexi. I would say I missed you but I literally saw you a couple of hours ago." He said, chuckling.

"Awww the feeling's mutual." I said , high-fiving him. "Listen, I need a favour."

"Yeah, sure. Anything for you." He said, stopping to face me.

"I really really need to speak with CJ alone. Please. It's very important." I said, with a little urgency.

"Ok. He's down these stairs, playing with the x-box, or reading a book. You never know with this kid. Is everything alright though?" He asked, a little worried, which is still something I'm getting used to.

"Yeah. Everything is fine. You'll know eventually don't worry." I said, turning around to walk.

"Hey Jace?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks. For whatever you did for him."

"That's what friends are for." He said; smiling.

"What you have friends?!! Since when?!" I said, feigning astonishment.

"Go away Alexis!" He huffed, walking away. "I'll be in the kitchen bugging Isabella if you need me." He said, waving his hands.

"Kay."

I came to the door. My hands sweating. I never thought about what will happen once I actually face him. Oh well. Improv it is. I made my way down another pair of mini stairs and I started hearing video game music.

This is it, I thought. It's showtime.

I walked towards the sound to be greeted with nothing. I can see the tv on, but the game is paused, and the couch is empty. When I came close to the couch, i could see someone lying on it.

CJ.

Lying on the couch.

His face between his knees.

Rocking himself back and forth.

Oh my God.

I could practically hear then sound of my heart breaking into little tiny pieces.

I didn't know what to say. Heck I couldn't even move.

"CJ?" It came out barely a whisper.

His head shot up, and man did I wish he kept his head down. His face was so pale, his eyes are hollow and bloodshot. Color drained from him, and the look he gave me; it was a look of a broken person.

"What happened? What's wrong?" I said, finally finding the strength to move forward. I sat next to him.

"They kicked me out." He said, chuckling humourlessly . "They said that I was a disgrace to the family name. They said that I am an ungrateful low-life who doesn't deserve happiness. They were lying to me for 9 years! They said they will adopt me, but they never did! They never did..." His voice broke at the end and he started crying, his shoulders shaking violently.

He continued. "As if that wasn't enough, they made me take all of my things, and put them in my car. So now I don't have a house, I don't have a family, I don't have a name, I don't have anyone!"

"No. Don't say that CJ! Don't! We're here for you! Always were, always will be. Now I need you to go wash your face, and for the love of God put a shirt on. I have some great news. I think." I said, wiping my tears aways, hugging my brother; my twin.

"Nothing you can ever say Alexis will make me ok. But fine, I'll wash my face."

Ten minutes later, he was seated in front of me.

"Okay Alexis. But before you start, I want to apologize for what I said earlier. I was mad at the world, but I shouldn't have taken out on you. I apologize."

"Psshht that? That was nothing, it's totally fine! Ok. So I want to show you a picture, and tell me what you see in it. Ok?"

"Ok."

I handed it to him, waiting for a response. The picture of him, mom, and me.

He stared at it for such a long time. I thought that he didn't notice anything at first, but when his hand unknowingly went to his pendant; i think he realized what it is.

"That necklace looks exactly like mine, butI was told that they stopped manufacturing those ages ago."

He was quite for a while. Then he spoke again.

"That baby looks a lot like me." I think he was getting a hold on the subject.

"Is that my mom?" He said, tears streaming down his face again.

"ALEXIS WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!" He said in frustration.

"When were you born CJ?" I asked, ignoring his previous statements.

"First of January, 1996. That's the only real thing I knew tying me to my family. But what is all this Lexi?"

"Ok. My parents told me today that I used to have a twin called Francis Daniel Pierce. He was kidnapped out of a grudge, and he was last seen in Detroit. When he disappeared, so did my mom's necklace. What I'm saying is that I think you're my twin. My family CJ."

"Am I on Punk'd? Where's the camera Lexi?? If this is your attempt at making me feel better, it's failing miserably, for real." He said, his face straighter than a sword.

I slapped his forehead.

"Let me tell you everything in detail."

So I told him exactly what my parents told me; word for word.

Everything was falling in place in his head.

We look alike.

We're the same height.

Same birthday.

Same class.

Same eyes.

"How is this possible?? You.... You're my....you're my TWIN?! MINE?! My twin Lexi?" He said in disbelief.

"Yes!! You're the brother I always had a connection with! Do you want to meet the parents?? I mean no rush, they still don't know about this." GOD I need to stop crying.

"Will they like me??" He said, unsure.

"Of course they will!! They still have these pictures from when we were kids!"

"But how can you be sure that I truly am your brother?"

"I can feel it. And besides there's always a DNA test we can perform. Now come on!! Let's go!'

He got dressed, we ran passed Jace, telling him thanks and goodbye and I told him that I'd call him later.

We drove so fast out of excitement. When I got home, I practically screamed.

"MOOOOOOOM!!"

"I'm in the kitchen Lexis." We went to her.

"Oh hey! Who's your friend Le--" her eyes slightly widened.

CJ finally spoke.

"Hey mom."

I heard a plate crash.
