Chapter 26: Chapter 23

The Crown Prince (Taegi AU)Words: 12622

A promise is a promise and if it is made with a person you value, you'll never want to break that promise.

Yoongi looked at Taehyung who seemed to be a bit too excited to go out with the crown prince. It wasn't every day that he got to hang out with the crown prince. The crown prince wasn't a man with a lot of leisure time. He was mostly busy and Taehyung would never want to disturb him when he was doing something productive.

Taehyung may have been a troublemaker, but he would never want to disturb someone who was working and doing something productive. Unlike him, they were doing something useful with their lives. However, this was something that was only applied to the people he liked. If he didn't like someone, he would disturb them even when they were working. Somehow, it seemed that this rule wasn't really widely applied because there weren't a lot of people he liked. The crown prince was one of the only people who was eligible for this rule, he was the only one whom Taehyung was not going to disturb when he was working.

Taehyung couldn't stand still for a minute, his feet would seem to be itching if he stood still so he grabbed onto Yoongi's hand and pulled him along the street.

Yoongi chuckled lightly as he saw this, "Why are you dragging me? I was supposed to take you, wasn't I?"

Taehyung looked back and flashed him a smile as he spoke, "You can follow me too, once in a while."

Yoongi saw Taheyung's honest expressions and couldn't help, but feel as if his heart was somehow melting. It suddenly felt soft and sensitive as if it had suddenly turned into jelly and was ready to jump out from his chest.

"I can follow you?"

Taehyung nodded his head lightly and beamed, "I'll always be here for you."

Yoongi didn't know why and it wasn't something much, yet he still felt like the man had said something so touching that the moment he heard it, he instantly felt his heart open up even more to the man. At this moment, Yoongi felt like even if Taehyung were to see his face clearly without the veil, he would still smile at him just as brightly.

Yoongi smiled back, but like always, it wasn't visible due to his veil covering up all of the beauty that was laced along with his honest smile.

However, Taehyung didn't need to remove the veil to know that the crown prince was smiling at him. He could feel it, the happiness Yoongi eluded was faint, but it was still sensed by Taehyung who felt like, now that he had got a hold of his hand, he would never want to let go.

Yoongi matched up with Taehyung's pace as he asked, "So, where are we going?"

Taehyung's eyes scrunched up into two little crescents as he answered, "It's..." He suddenly stopped walking and leaned in closer to Yoongi as he whispered in the crown prince's ears, "A secret."

Was this what it was like to have a taste of your own medicine?

Hadn't it been Yoongi who started using this trick of never telling the man where they were going? Was Taehyung learning from him or was he plagiarising him?

Yoongi shook his head and sighed which eventually turned into a small chuckle, "You don't have a plan, do you?"

Taehyung glanced at the man with big bright eyes as he nodded enthusiastically and responded, "How'd you know?"

Yoongi had just guessed it, but somehow, his guess had come true. It wasn't too shocking considering the fact that it was in Taehyung's nature not to plan anything ahead of time so of course, this man hadn't planned any secret date. He was simply dragging Yoongi to wherever he felt like.

"As I guessed," Taehyung sighed dejectedly which made Yoongi look at him curiously.

"Hmm?"

"I don't look as cool as you when I do this," Taehyung frowned.

Yoongi took a minute to digest what the man had said and when he understood the meaning, his ears reacted before his mouth could.

However, he wasn't able to say anything just yet due to Taehyung not having completed what he wanted to say, "You look so cool when you do it!"

Yoongi coughed twice as he heard this, "I look cool...?"

Taehyung nodded as he repeated, "You looked so damn cool! I felt my heart race!"

Yoongi immediately turned his head away and tried to hide his flushed expressions. A second or two passed and Taehyung heard Yoongi laughing.

"Hey! Are you laughing at me?!" Taehyung asked with an offended expression.

Yoongi couldn't help but laugh at the man. Taehyung didn't even know what he was doing. He was so damn innocent that it made Yoongi laugh at his innocent cuteness. He was talking about his racing heart without even rechecking what he sounded like. Wasn't he simply saying that he was in love with the crown prince? How could he not know what he was saying?

He was flirting with Yoongi without even being aware of it, or so Yoongi thought.

"Don't laugh at me! I wasn't lying!" Taehyung tried to speak up for himself, "I really felt my heart beating out of control! I know what that feeling is! It's when I like something a lot-"

Yoongi didn't let Taehyung continue speaking as he stretched out his hand and covered Taehyung's mouth with it.

"I believe you," Yoongi ducked his head down and didn't dare look up as he spoke.

He felt Taehyung smiling as his palm suddenly started tingling when Taehyung's soft lips stretched out and brushed against his skin.

This was a bad idea.

He shouldn't have stopped Taehyung from talking, at least, not like this. His palm felt extremely hot and it started to tingle him. He wanted to pull it away as soon as possible and that was exactly what he did.

The sensation of Taehyung's lips on his palm reminded him of the time when the same pair of lips were on his lips. When he remembered that time, the ear that was already red got even more pigmented.

Yoongi flipped his sleeve away as he spoke, "Let's go!"

He didn't want to waste further time talking about things that might mislead him or make him remember embarrassing times.

Taehyung ran after Yoongi who had walked away, "Why are you running? I'm supposed to be the one leading you today."

Yoongi looked at the man and stretched his hand out front as he waited.

Taehyung glanced down at the hand and then back up at Yoongi's face. It took him a whole minute to realize what the crown prince was trying to say.

Yoongi looked away, with his hand still outstretched in front of him. He was giving Taehyung permission to hold his hand, or more like, he was asking Taehyung to hold his hand again.

Taehyung was more than delighted to grab Yoongi's hand and continued to drag him to who knows where.

They walked down the street freely in their disguises that had been changed after the whole incident they caused last time when they went to the chicken fight. From a rumor, it had turned into a local story so of course, they couldn't go out in their old disguises anymore. They didn't want to be stopped on their way and questioned if they were the monk and the young master from the local tale.

"Look at this!" Taehyung eagerly held up a wrist bracelet that he had picked up from one of the stalls.

Yoongi looked at the simple design and didn't seem to be that impressed by it as he asked, "You like it?"

Taehyung saw the expression on Yoongi's face but it didn't stop him from changing his opinion as he nodded his head, "I like it!"

Yoongi already knew what this meant so he took out his money pouch and asked the vendor how much the bracelet cost.

"Just 10 copper coins," The vendor who looked to be around 40 years old answered with a friendly smile etched across his face.

Ten copper coins was a reasonable price for this thing so Yoongi was happy to see that the vendor wasn't trying to fool them. He liked honest people so he would not be stingy about awarding them for their honest nature.

He took out ten silver coins instead of copper coins and handed them over to the vendor as he spoke, "You can keep it. I don't have change."

The vendor looked at the man in shock and confusion as he gave back the nine silver coins.

"I only asked for ten copper coins, why are you giving me silver coins?" It seemed that the man could not understand Yoongi's good intentions.

Hundred copper coins were equal to one silver coin so even if Yoongi didn't have any change, why would he give out ten silver coins with that excuse? He could simply just hand over one silver coin and the excuse would have made more sense, but he just had to go and give out money like abundant water.

If it had been some other greedy merchant, they would have surely accepted all the money without a second thought. It wasn't their fault that rich people had a lot of money to throw around and if someone was giving you something they didn't lack, why would you say no to it?

It was quite foolish of this man to just say no to Yoongi like this.

Yoongi looked at the man and nodded in satisfaction as he handed the nine coins back once again, "You can keep it. It's too heavy for me to carry."

Taehyung couldn't help but snicker as he saw this. Yoongi was certainly not as evil as the rumors said, instead, he was just a person who would never let anyone see his soft side, the type of person who would try to give lame excuses for all the good things he was trying to do.

The man smiled as he pushed the nine coins back, "You can keep it, young man. Money is the root of all evil. If you lack it, you are driven by greed and if you have too much of it, you are still driven by greed. Wherever money goes, evil invades the mind."

Yoongi listened to the middle-aged man and he was suddenly a bit reluctant to give him the nine silver coins.

At this moment, Taehyung stepped forward and covered Yoongi's hand with his own as he gently pushed it back and shook his head, "If he doesn't want it, it's better not to give."

Yoongi had never seen such a man who would talk about money like this. Wasn't money something everyone loved? The more you have, the better. Not all problems could be solved by money but most of the problems are easily solved by a few gold coins.

"Wherever money goes, evil invades the mind," Yoongi repeated the sentence the man had said to him. He found it a bit funny and a bit true as well. The man was definitely not lying and Yoongi knew that best.

He had seen people be ruined by money and he had seen Gold rule the people's mind more than he ever did.

Suddenly, he felt like this man was very wise.

"Would you like to buy anything else?" The man asked with a friendly warm smile, to which Yoongi only shook his head. "Then let me give you back ninety copper coins."

The man gestured for Yoongi to wait as he dug through his money pouch which was rather empty compared to Yoongi's.

Taehyung saw the entire exchange and when the man told them to wait he nodded as he grabbed Yoongi's sleeve and tugged at it.

Yoongi looked back at him and asked, "What are you doing?"

Taehyung smiled brightly as he grabbed a firm hold around Yoongi's wrist and broke out into a sprint, pulling the crown prince with him as he exclaimed, "Run!"

Yoongi was shocked at first, but his shock eventually turned into laughter as he ran after Taehyung.
