Chapter 25: Chapter 22

The Crown Prince (Taegi AU)Words: 11931

Yoongi looked at Hyun who was standing in front of him with a thick stash of papers clutched tightly in his hands.

Hyun wasn't looking too happy but he seemed to be a bit relieved for the fact that all his hard work had paid off. The eyebags were as clear as day and Yoongi frowned as he saw them.

Yoongi knew that the man was a workholic who would rather spend his time doing something or the other that was related to his work and if not, then the man wasn't Hyun anymore, it was an imposter who was trying to fool Yoongi.

At often times, Yoongi had told him to take it easy but this man would never listen. He would spend his nights doing unnecessary work just to make sure that the crown prince didn't have too much work to do.

Yoongi would sometimes feel as if he were being pampered by him. Hyun would try to give him as less work as possible and it made him feel like he was somehow depending on Hyun. This was never good for a monarch. To depend on someone else was like proving to the people that he wasn't competent enough to run the country.

Yoongi didn't want to lean on someone but Hyun never minded it. For him, it was his sworn duty to look after the crown prince and help lessen the burden on his shoulders. Although Yoongi didn't like it too much, he was still thankful that he had someone like that by his side to help him.

If it weren't for Hyun, Yoongi might not have been able to reign for so long but of course Hyun wasn't the only one getting all the credits.

Yoongi looked towards his right where there stood two generals with their heads held up, looking straight ahead. There were a lot of people that Yoongi wanted to thank but he would never actually do it because he wasn't the type of man who had learned how to show gratitude like that.

He was born and raised a prince. A prince is supposed to be the hope and light of the people, he's supposed to be the one who helps others and receives their gratitude. For a prince to say thank you to someone who was assigned to do his job by being on the prince's side? It was something outrageous and if the old king was still alive to see such a thing happening, he would've coughed up blood and died on the spot all over again.

This may have been one of the reasons why Yoongi would never say the words 'Thank you' to any of these people that were on his side. He might be afraid to anger his father who was probably chilling in the afterlife or maybe he was too embarassed to say it out loud.

Hyun and the two generals had grown up with this crown prince so of course they would not want such casual gratitude to be showered on them. Gestures spoke louder than words and it was enough for them to know that they had somehow been a great help to their friend and their beloved country.

Yoongi wouldn't just casually say thank you but he would surely show it in a lot more other ways such as... By not killing them perhaps¿

Who knows what magic this crown prince had done on them for them to be so loyal to their royal highness.

"You shouldn't make a hasty decision," Yoongi heard Jungkook speak up and he also saw Jimin nudging him for being so rude to the crown prince.

Yoongi nodded his head in agreement, "we can't let the cat know that we have its ball of thread."

"Huh?" Jungkook had never heard such a saying before nor had anyone else so when they heard it for the first time today, they were all confused and didn't know what the crown prince was trying to say.

Yoongi sighed as he realised that these guys were just too dumb to understand the deeper meanings behind his own philosophical words.

"It means we can't let the suspect know that he is the suspect."

Hyun's forehead creased up as he heard this. He instantly knew that the saying was made up on the spot by this crown prince but he couldn't understand how a cat and a thread ball could mean such a thing. How were cats and suspects related?

Although he knew that this saying was absolutely ridiculous, he would not dare speak up about it. It wasn't due to the fear of the crown prince but rather, it was due to the respect he had for the man. If he were to question what he said, wouldn't it mean that he was being disrespectful to the crown prince?

"Let's lay a trap and wait for the rat," Yoongi spoke up with his own original sayings that he had made up on the spot but this time, it seemed to make much more sense and the three were able to understand what he was trying to say, "Get his daughter to come meet me."

Hyun took a step forward and nodded, "I'll get her here tomorrow."

"Not tomorrow."

"Eh? Why? Your schedule is free tomorrow." Hyun was in charge of keeping track of Yoongi's schedule so there was no way he didn't know when the crown prince was busy and when he wasn't. The last he checked, the schedule for tomorrow was empty and it was ideal for him to meet this woman who was a suspect in their eyes.

Yoongi coughed twice as his ears suddenly flushed red when he responded, "I'm busy with some personal matters."

"Personal matters? Is your highness mistaken? There is no personal meetings tomorrow." Hyun was also in charge of Yoongi's personal life so when he heard the answer, he was a bit skeptical and had to question if the crown prince wasn't remembering it wrong.

Yoongi once again coughed as he spoke, "I'm going out to stroll the markets tomorrow."

"But that can be postponed. Important matters should be dealt with first." Hyun suddenly received a glare from Yoongi but the black colored veil made it impossible for the man to realise that he was somehow digging up his own grave.

"It can't be postponed." Yoongi said outrightly with his usual strict tone. How could he simply tell the man that he had promised to go out with Taehyung tomorrow? He didn't know why but he somehow felt embarrassed to say it out loud

In the end, he knew that Hyun would eventually find out about it but it was still wierd for him to say that he was going to postpone such an important matter for another matter that was considered really important for only him and not for anyone else.

The light bulb in Hyun's mind was somewhat slow but it finally managed to light up as he understood that the crown prince didn't want to talk about it.

"Then when do you want to meet her?"

Yoongi nodded in satisfaction as he saw that the man wasn't going to dwell on the previous topic any further, "Sometime this week. Just not tomorrow."

"Understood." Hyun placed the stacks of paper piled up in his hands on the side table for Yoongi to go through them later. This was a lot of work that he had done and now it only needed Yoongi to check through them but both Yoongi and Hyun knew that it was just formalities.

It was Yoongi's job to check through the files but who would have that much free time with them? Yoongi would only flip through them carelessly to make it seem like he was doing his job and then he would keep them aside to sit in a shelf, collecting dust, never to be opened again.

It wasn't only Yoongi who would do this. Most of the rulers were the same as him and if he were to be compared with them, it could be said that he was much better. The other rulers wouldn't even spare an eye at such files. Yoongi was atleast flipping through them, that, in itself, was a big thing.

"Does your highness want us to accompany you while meeting the young lady?"  Jimin asked politely with a small friendly smile on his face.

"I'll meet her alone."

"Alone, you say?" The teasing look in Jimin's eyes didn't go unnoticed by the crown prince who immediately knew what was going on in the man's head, "Wouldn't that arise some misunderstandings?"

"What misunderstandings are you talking about?" Yoongi side-eyed the man.

Jimin snickered, "Your highness should know better than me. Rumors spread fast. If people were to know that the crown prince was meeting up with an unwed young lady. I wonder how much people would talk."

Yoongi frowned as he heard this, "isn't it just you who loves gossiping so much?"

Jimin made an expression that made it seem like he was offended as he answered the crown prince, "Why do you say that? I'm innocent. I was just looking out for your highness. You wouldn't want such rumors to fall into the ears of a certain someone."

Yoongi knew who this certain someone was and he wasn't liking this conversation much. Although it was just Jimin teasing the young prince, Yoongi felt like his words held some meaning.

It was always better to avoid such misunderstandings.

"You two will accompany me."

Jimin smiled in satisfaction as he heard this, "We'll make sure that no one dares come up with conclusions."

Yoongi frowned, "You make it sound like I'm doing something wrong."

"How can that be? Your highness is always right." Jimin beamed and Yoongi had the feeling that the man was still teasing him somehow, "Can I ask you one more question?"

"What?"

"The personal meeting tomorrow," Jimin smiled mischievously, "You might not have made plans with the young prince, Taehyung, have you?"

Hyun had avoided asking further details because he knew that the crown prince wasn't looking forward to giving him answers but this exact fact was also the reason why Jimin was so interested in diving into the topic. He somehow really liked to play around with the crown prince. The more strongly Yoongi would react, the better he found it to be.

As long as Jimin hadn't angered Yoongi enough to behead him, he would keep trying to poke the man's weak spots.

Yoongi jolted up and walked up to Jimin who thought that he was now a goner but instead of responding to Jimin, Yoongi turned his head to Jungkook and reached his hand out to pat the man's shoulders twice as he spoke, "You sure you don't want a new best friend? The old one doesn't seem to value his life much."

Jungkook broke out laughing as he heard this but in the end, he still nodded and responded with a "I think I'm okay with this one."

Jimin suddenly felt touched to hear the man talk so sweetly about him but in the next minute, he remembered the argument they had a couple days back and it made the small smile on his face to go down into a frown. He was still holding a grudge against Jungkook and there was no way such a small comment would make him forgive the man. It might melt his heart just a bit but it would still not be enough for him to forgive him completely.

Yoongi sighed in disappointment, "You're also a pitiful fella."

Jungkook only smiled as a response and it was Jimin who couldn't handle the backhanded attacks he was receiving.

"He's the luckiest man alive! Why would your highness pity him?!"

Yoongi shook his head and didn't say anything which made Jimin want to continue.

"Or should I say the second luckiest man alive?"

Hyun, "The second?"

Jimin nodded his head as he answered, "The second because the first would be the guy who stole your highness's heart."

Yoongi suddenly felt flustered as he heard this but his outward appearance was still just as stern and calm as before, not letting anyone notice the slight change in his own inner thoughts.

Jimin knows what's up while Hyun is too dumb to understand and Jungkook is too unbothered to even try to understand.

But I love the fact that Yoongi is keeping his promise as a priority, don't you?

I swear these two cute heads are gonna be the death of me someday and I wouldn't even be regretful.
