Chapter 21: Chapter 18

The Crown Prince (Taegi AU)Words: 12530

Hyun had called Yoongi urgently regarding the Old Lao case.

Old Lao had met a tragic end, but soon after his death, his wife came forward with information. When Hyun tried to question her, she refused to talk and said a single sentence, "I want to talk to the crown prince."

If it hadn't been for everything that had happened, Yoongi would never carelessly meet up with someone like this. What if the woman had a knife hidden in her sleeve and was planning on attacking the crown prince? With Old Lao dead, they couldn't even make sure that this woman was his wife or what their relationship with each other was like.

This was a bet Yoongi was willing to take. He had Hyun by his side and he was sure that even if that woman was planning on attacking him, it would only be her stupidity since Hyun would never let anything happen to Yoongi.

Yoongi wasn't alone when he went to meet the woman. He invited two more generals with him.

General Jeon and General Park were bickering in the early morning about something Yoongi didn't know, but when they got summoned by the crown prince, they immediately stopped and put their argument aside. They weren't going to disobey Yoongi, however, as they walked side by side behind Yoongi, the other guards could clearly see that something was up.

The two generals who were always joking around were now glaring at each other and purposefully bumping the other's shoulder.

With the weight of their armor, one look and it was clear that the bumping of shoulder hurt. If it had been anyone else, they were afraid that one bump would have been enough to dislocate their shoulder.

Compared to the hostile aura around these two, Yoongi wasn't looking too happy as well.

He had to leave Taehyung behind for this and he already regretted it. If this woman wasn't going to give them any important information, Hyun was the least of her worries; Yoongi would directly behead this woman.

When the woman saw the group of scary people enter the room, the tears that had not yet shed from her eyes, started flowing down uncontrollably.

"Y-your highness..." She cried out and Yoongi cringed at the sight, "T-they did it. They forced him to do it. He was innocent. He didn't deserve this."

The woman fell onto her knees and tried to cling onto Yoongi's robe but he stepped back, "Speak clearly. I'm not here to listen to how you have been wronged."

Jungkook was shocked at how the crown prince was behaving. He thought he was angry but the real person who was in a bad mood today was this young man in front of him.

The woman and the guards weren't shocked at the crown prince's behavior since they didn't know the crown prince well and they had already perceived him to be a cold-hearted inhumane dictator.

The woman looked up at the crown prince's face. She was already on the floor and this made it possible for her to see his face from in between the veil.

Her tears stopped and she fell back from the shock, she looked like she had seen a ghost. That scar, it scared her to near death. With Yoongi glaring down at her, the only thing she noticed was the scar and the piercing black eyes, it was more than enough to scare her for life. She only saw what she wanted to see and although the prince's face could be considered handsome, she could not say the same.

"I'm not here for your nonsense!" Yoongi ordered, his voice louder and sending a shiver down the woman's spine.

Yoongi knew why the woman was so scared suddenly, after all, their eyes had met, and just like how she had seen his face, he could see her scared expression as well.

Was he going to let this woman be the second person who lived after seeing this scar? Probably not.

"Y-your highness, forgive me and my husband. We are really innocent." As she said this, she banged her head against the floor.

Yoongi suddenly had a thought: Even if he didn't kill this woman, the woman would do it herself by banging her head like that.

He wasn't wrong in thinking this since her forehead had already started bleeding a bit.

Jungkook stepped forward and crouched down. The woman was going to hit her head on the ground once again but instead of hitting the ground, her head came in contact with something softer yet rough and cold.

"Stop this," Jungkook spoke as he looked down at the woman who glanced up to see the owner of the hand that had stopped her from killing herself.

When her eyes met with Jungkook's glaring ones, she was once again shocked to near death. Her knees gave out and now she was scrambling on the ground.

There was no way she didn't recognize this general. Jungkook was more than famous among the people. He was like a cold sword that Yoongi wielded and even without the owner's permission, this sword was more than ready to cut down the heads of the people it disliked.

Why the hell were all of them so damn scary?!

The woman instantly regretted coming here. She felt that by doing so, she had already cut her lifeline short.

"Stop scaring the woman." Jimin stepped forward and helped her up with a smile.

She saw the handsome face of the general who was helping her up and she felt her heart have another shock.

There was no woman in this country who was unaffected by this smile but she wasn't swooning over him.

Just like the others, she was afraid of this general as well and if compared, she was more afraid of Jimin than the other two combined.

She immediately stepped back in fear and Jimin couldn't believe it. He was sure he didn't look that ugly so why was this woman suddenly afraid of him? He didn't remember doing something that could get him this reaction.

He had.

He just didn't remember it.

This woman used to have a brother, a distant cousin whose whole family was ruthlessly killed under Jimin's sword.

She was well aware of how dangerous this man was since she was the one who discovered them all in their house. The whole floor was covered in blood and their dead bodies were missing heads which were hanging up on the tree in their courtyard.

She knew they deserved it, but it still scared her that this innocent-looking man was capable of such a brutal murder.

Before that, she had always thought that this general was the only one who had a heart and looked the best. Like a tranquil tree, elegant and flowing with the wind, able to win the hearts of many by just standing and smiling at them, but after that day, her views on him changed drastically.

It was now Hyun's turn to step forward and try to calm the woman down.

Jungkook and Jimin stepped back and let Hyun handle the woman.

"Just say what you wanted to say. You have been making a fuss about meeting his highness. He is here, what are you doing?" He lightly scolded her and she didn't seem to be even an inch scared of him.

Compared to the other three men, this Hyun was much more innocent like a lone hyena among lions.

The woman calmed herself down and finally decided to speak what she had originally come here to say, "My h-husband was tricked."

Yoongi stopped her from speaking since he really didn't like the way this woman was trying to curry pity from them, "He wasn't fooled. How long has he been doing this? You dare say he was fooled all this while?!"

The woman instantly understood that she wouldn't be getting anything out of trying to gain pity. People needed a heart in order to feel pity for others and these people clearly didn't have a heart according to her so who was she trying to fool?

She straightened herself out and wiped her tears away on her sleeves that were already wet and dirty from rolling around on the ground.

Yoongi mentally frowned at the unhygienic sight.

"Some people came up to our house one day." The woman started speaking, this time without stuttering on every other word, "They told us that we were going to get rich. That we were the chosen ones."

"And you believed them?" Jimin asked with an amused smile on his face.

"N-No. Of course, we didn't. We refused their offer but what could we do?"

"Are you going to keep playing the victim card?" Jungkook sneered.

"We really are innocent. The man started threatening us. We might be poor but that doesn't mean we deserve to die. My husband had to agree to their demand if he wanted to see our little Juan live to turn ten." The woman cried out.

"Who are they? Who threatened you?" Jimin asked.

There was a reason why they were continually interrupting her. It was a way to see if she was just lying or if she was telling the truth. If she was telling the truth, getting interrupted shouldn't disturb her from what she was going to say but if she was lying, disturbing her would cause her to rethink what she was going to say. It would make her more nervous and she would start stuttering and look down, starting to fiddle with her fingers.

"I'm afraid that if I tell you, I might not survive for too long so I have to ask his highness..."

"What?" Yoongi questioned.

"If I tell everyone here who it was, you must guarantee my safety a-and my son. My son should also be safe."

Yoongi sighed. He was already planning to behead this woman, but now he had to rethink that decision. If this woman was going to give them correct useful information, he might as well just agree and let her live on.

"You won't die from confessing here."

The woman looked at the big generals and the crown prince standing in front of her and she felt like even if she was afraid of these cold-hearted people, they will not be as shameless as to go back on their words and this was the only reason why she was confident to confess today.

"Now tell us, who threatened you?" Jungkook asked impatiently. He was already in a bad mood today because of his fight with Jimin, he really didn't have the patience to stand around here and listen to her stutter and take her sweet time in answering such a simple question.

Just a single name, was it that hard to say one single word? If it was, her mouth was really useless and he should cut her tongue out.

The woman shivered as she heard the general ordering her to speak, "I-It was a woman."

Yoongi suddenly smirked but no one else could see it.

Hyun was the first to react, "Didn't you say it was a man?"

"Don't get me wrong. I'm not lying, I swear." The woman scrambled, "There was a man too but the woman was in charge. The man was working for her."

"How could a woman plan such a big thing?" Hyun asked in an offensive tone and Yoongi decided to step up.

"What does the gender of the person have to do with anything? Your answer is really vague. Do you know how many women there are in this country?"

The woman in front gulped in fear after having heard the crown prince, "T-the woman is from a famous noble family."

This time it was Jungkook who spoke up. With every passing minute, he was losing his patience, "Do you know how many famous women belong to the noble family?"

"Give us a name." Jungkook snapped

The woman felt cold sweat dripping down her forehead as she answered, "Hwang."

Yoongi had already guessed this much so it really didn't come as a shock to him but the others who heard this name were clearly shaken.

The shock came with a feeling of excitement since none of them had ever liked the noble family called Hwang.

A/n: So Yoongi's suspicion was right!

It was that old Hwang!

But who is the woman?!

What about the hairpin?

Is Taehyung being framed?!

So many questions but they will only be answered patiently with time.
