âCould you check him, please?â Theresa stopped a doctor.
The doctor took one look at him and nodded. He opened Armandâs sleeve and said casually, âThe wound needs to be stitched. You should go to the hospital.â
Someone called out that there was another injured person inside, so the doctor went in. It appeared that the woman was seriously injured. The doctor urged the rest of the staff to take her downstairs.
The man was arrested and taken away by the police.
After arriving at the hospital, the woman was sent to the emergency room to be rescued. Armand went to the surgery department to treat her wound. The doctor checked the wound and said she needed more than a dozen stitches.
When the doctor was cleaning the wound, Theresa couldnât look. She just turned away.
Within half an hour, Armandâs wound was completely healed. Theresa helped him up and asked, âDoes it hurt?â
Armand replied, âNo, not at all. Iâve been anesthetized.â
The doctor put local anesthetic around the wound. Otherwise, he would suffer when the skin was stitched. He would not have felt so calm.
âThe police have informed your clientâs family to come. Please donât worry about her,â Theresa said.
Armand gave her a look, âI donât worry about her. Sheâs just my client. Even if something happened to her, it wouldnât be my responsibility. Youâve been worrying me. When the man wanted to cut you, why didnât you know how to dodge?â She was so scared that she stiffened and forgot to react.
âYouâre always like that. How can I leave you alone in the future?â said Armand depressed.
Theresa pressed her lips together silently.
A doctor approached. Seeing Armand, he said, âMr. Bernie, Mrs. Bernie has woken up.â
They were in the same hospital where Elizabeth was, and the doctor was her boss. Elizabeth woke up, but there was no one with her, so she was trying to contact Armand.
âIâm going to go to your ward now,â Armand said.
âHold on a moment, please. Mr. Bernie, I need to talk to you.â The doctor looked at him solemnly. Armand frowned, âDidnât you say his wound wasnât serious?â.
âItâs not in danger, butâ¦â The doctor paused slightly, âPlease prepare yourself.â
âWhat the hell is wrong with him?â Armand was anxious.
âMr. Bernie, please calm down.â The doctor said more solemnly, âHereâs whatâs wrong. Your grandmotherâs brain was injured. When she woke up, I went to see her. She could be suffering from short-term memory loss.â
âWhat?â Armand thought heâd misheard something, âMemory loss?â
He couldnât believe it at all. It was only happening on the soap opera, how could it happen in real life?
âIâm still not quite sure. She has Alzheimerâs disease, so she has that symptom too. However, itâs possible she has amnesia. Weâll check her tomorrow to make sure of that.â
âOkay. I see.â Armand grabbed Theresaâs hand, âIâ¦â
âLetâs go see her first.â Theresa could understand how helpless he was now.
They went together to Elizabethâs living room. Pushing open the door, they found that Elizabeth was half lying on the bed. Her head was bandaged. Hearing the noise, she turned over. Her dull eyes lit up.
âPlease come in. Iâll wait for you outside.â Theresa let go of Armandâs hand.
As she turned around, Elizabeth said, âWho are you, girl?â Theresa didnât turn her back, she kept walking.
âHey, Iâm talking to you! Donât ignore me!â Elizabeth blurted out, âLet me tell you. Armand is married. Donât you dare bother him.â
Armand approached her, âGrandmaâ¦â
âStop calling me!â Elizabeth rudely interrupted him, âTheresa lost her baby because of you. I wonder how sheâs doing now, how can you flirt with another woman, arenât you ashamed of yourself?â
Theresa was puzzled as she stood in the doorway. She wondered if Elizabeth had really lost her memories and had forgotten who she was.
âGrandmother.â Armand walked over to the bed and looked at his grandmother, âSince Theresa and I arenât going to have children, you want us to divorce. Have you forgotten?â
Elizabeth glanced at Armand. His cloudy eyes became confused. Suddenly, she said in a deep voice, âStop talking nonsense! How can I ask you for a divorce?â
Armand turned his face to Theresa again, meeting her gaze. They both wondered if Elizabeth had really lost her memories temporarily as the doctor had said.
Suddenly, Elizabeth tugged on Armandâs hand and earnestly reminded him, âArmand, we must do things to carry the weight of our conscience. Theresa has lost the baby and has been hurt because of you. You must take responsibility for her and atone for your guilt. You canât bother other girls.â
Armand said in agreement, âI wonât let Theresa down, Grandma.â
âAll right. Send that girl away. When Theresa comes back and sees her, she will be angry,â Elizabeth said angrily.
Armand said yes. He turned to Theresa and dragged her into the hallway.
âGrandma doesnât seem to recognize you.â Armand couldnât tell what he was feeling now. He didnât think it could be anything bad.
Theresa said, âThe doctor said she might have lost some memories, didnât he?â
Armand nodded. They wanted to wait for the checkup. The next day, Elizabeth underwent a checkup. According to the brain scan, her memory loss was caused by congestion and nerve compression in the brain. She might recover soon, or she might only remember past events and never remember recent ones.
Outside the consultation, Armand said, âTheresa, this could be a good thing.â
Theresa knew what he meant. However, she was still hesitant, âWhat if she suddenly remembers everything?â
Armand was speechless.
Theresa sat down on the bench in the hallway, âLola has given me the C-Town tailor shop. From now on I will develop my career there. I canât stay here.
Armand expressed, âI can follow you to go to C-Town.â
Theresa gave him a look, âWhat about your career?â.
Armand walked over to her and squatted down. He took her hand and said, âIf youâre willing, I can drop everything. I can take my grandmother and move to C-Town with you.â
Armandâs suggestion came so suddenly. Theresa couldnât make up her mind at all.
âHonestly, after you left City B, I went to see you secretly. That day, you were dressed so beautiful. You were talking to Oscar while smiling at him. When I saw you, I felt quite upset. I tried to convince myself that as long as you were happy, I would be satisfied. But⦠I canât leave you at all.â He looked deeply at her, âYou canât let go of me either, can you?â.
âYouâd better figure out how you can tell your grandmother that Iâm Theresa. Iâll give you two days. If you can figure it out, Iâll agree. Iâve already fallen in love with you twiceâ¦â
Armand covered her months, âDonât say anything sinister. Iâve brought you a lot of trouble. I must make it up to you.â
Over the next two days, Armand continued to convince his grandmother, telling her that the girl walking hand in hand with him was Theresa, but Elizabeth refused to believe him.
Armand told her what Theresa had experienced.
Elizabethâs memory stopped at the period when Theresa was hurt and left. Armand said everything reasonable, so Elizabeth finally believed him even though she was still a little confused.
Armand transferred her case to another lawyer in the firm. It was now being processed. The husband cheated on his wife and beat her, causing the baby to miscarry. Therefore, the divorce was certain. The man was ruined and had to take legal responsibility.
Armand let the servant take care of Elizabeth at home first. He went to C-Town with Theresa to buy a house.
Theresa feared he was doing it unwisely by leaving everything in City B and moving to City C. âHave you really made up your mind, Armand?â she asked him.
She didnât want him to regret it in the future.
Armand said affirmatively, âAs long as we can be together, Iâm fine with staying anywhere.â
Before moving to C-town, he went to Matthew and told him that he had decided to move to C-town. He did not ask Matthew for his opinion, but only informed him.
Matthew agreed with him. He has his own intention: Oscar had a young mind, but he was getting older. The JK Group, which Oscar was in charge of now, belonged to Dolores, so Oscar could not be in charge forever. In the future, someone would have to replace him.
Right now, Matthew had no trusted assistant. If Armand moved to C-Town, this problem could be solved without any problems. In addition, there was also a textile factory. Kevin could not go back there for the time being. Besides, Kevin was also getting old. Someone else had to take over in the future, no doubt.
If Armand settled in C-Town, all those problems could be solved.
Matthew also had another thought, but he would decide after discussing it with Dolores.
