As Armand hurried to the scene, Bertha was still anxiously questioning passersby in the park. Elizabeth had disappeared under her care. She was afraid to take responsibility, so she almost cried with anxiety.
Armand came up to her quickly, âHave you looked all over the place?â
âYes, Iâve looked everywhere, but I havenât been able to find her yet. Her legs are too weak to walk, how can she disappear like this?â Bertha felt very worried. She said anxiously, âHer legs are not strong, how could she have disappeared so quickly?â
âHow long has she been missing?â asked Armand.
âNo more than an hour.â Bertha feared that something might happen to her, so she informed Armand in the first place. Therefore, the time was not very long.
If an adult disappeared in less than 24 hours, the police did not file the case. âLetâs split up to find her. You go home and see. Contact me by phone if you find her.â
Bertha said, âOkay, Iâll be right back.â
Armand was very calm. After instructing Bertha to go home, he went to find the management office. The park belonged to the community management team. All entrances and exits had cameras installed, so he went to check the security footage.
When they learned that someone from the community was missing, they were very excited and helped find her. Bertha said Elizabeth was missing for less than an hour. Therefore, reviewing the recordings during this period was not a difficult task.
They soon found Elizabethâs figure on the recording.
Elizabeth came out of the park with her wheelchair when Bertha went to buy some pastries. It could be determined that Elizabeth was no longer in the park, so Armand went out to look for her outside the park.
Some people from the community management team helped him to find Elizabeth.
âLetâs split up and search.â Armand said, âHer legs are weak, so she wouldnât go very far.â
Three or four of them split up to find her.
An hour passed and there was no sign of Elizabeth. One of the men said, âIs it possible she went somewhere else? If not, why did she suddenly leave the park alone?â.
This personâs words struck Armandâs mind. Elizabeth was not in this neighborhood, so she must have gone somewhere else, but Elizabeth rarely interacted with people. Relatives had to stop contacting them because of her parents, so she wouldnât have gone to anyoneâs house.
Now, there was nowhere to continue the search. She could only try everywhere. She went to her previous home, the place where she lived before she graduated. The house they lived in now was bought by Armand after he made some money when he became a lawyer.
This place was already very run down and not many people lived there. Wires were moving in a complicated way, clothes were hanging outside the windows. Underwear and socks were everywhere to be seen, and there was no cleanliness at all.
Armand went to the house, but didnât see her. He held up his phone with Elizabethâs picture on the screen and asked if anyone had seen her.
Everyone said they hadnât seen her at all.
After making sure she wasnât there, he got into the car and began to feel increasingly anxious. She wasnât here, where could she be?
He started the car, turned around and drove back. As he drove past the school he used to go to, where the old campus had been abandoned, he thought he saw Elizabethâs figure in front of the big steel gate.
He stopped the car and glanced back. He saw that it was indeed Elizabeth standing in front of the gate. He immediately got out of the car and walked toward her.
âWhy did you come here? Armand felt a sudden relief because he was glad to find her. However, he felt angry that she had run off alone without telling anyone, which made everyone worry about her.
Elizabeth turned around and said with a smile, âAre you out of school? I came to pick you up after school.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Armand frowned, they hadnât been living here long already.
âIâ¦â Elizabeth was confused again, âWhat do I want to do now?â
âLetâs go home.â Armand pushed his wheelchair.
Suddenly, Elizabeth slapped his thigh, âIâve come to get you! Thereâs a sports competition at your school today, so Iâve come to watch you compete.â Elizabethâs words startled Armand. What was wrong with him?
When they got into the car, Armand called Bertha to stop looking for Elizabeth because he had already found her, âInform the management team to stop looking.â
Bertha said she understood.
Armand sent Elizabeth home and Bertha said gratefully, âGood thing they found her, otherwise I would have been scared to death.â Armand pushed Elizabeth back to her room.
Then he called Bertha into the living room.
âHas Grandma been behaving abnormally lately?â
Bertha thought carefully: There doesnât seem to be any abnormal behaviorâ¦but sheâs not totally normal. Sometimes, she forgets the things she told me to do.
Bertha seemed to have thought of something. She said, âItâs not the first time Iâve taken care of the elderly. I have met some elderly people who have the same condition as her, who constantly forget things. Maybeâ¦â
âDonât say it. Iâll take her to the hospital to get her checked out.â Armand knew what she meant, but he refused to believe it.
Even though he was angry and pissed off at her stubbornness, he didnât want her to get sick at all.
âArmand, you need to treat Theresa better, why donât you see her lately?â Elizabeth pushed her wheelchair out of the room.
Armand looked at her and clenched his fists, âGrandma, what are you talking about?â
âDidnât you marry Theresa? You have to treat her right. Phoebe is not a good woman. She left you because she thinks weâre poor. I hate her. Now that youâre married to Theresa, you have to treat her right and have a child quickly.â Elizabeth seemed to speak in a confused manner, but Armand understood everything she said.
She was talking about different subjects at the same time, so it wasnât normal.
Armand took her to the hospital. He took a rug and covered her legs. Then he pushed her towards the door.
âWhere are you taking me?â asked Elizabeth.
âTo the hospital,â Armand said.
Elizabeth tilted her head and looked up at him, âAre you sick?â
Armand said, âNo, itâs not me, itâs you.â
Elizabeth suddenly became agitated, âIâm not sick. Iâm fine. Iâm not going to the hospital.â
âYouâd better go check.â
âIâm not going, Iâm not sick.â Elizabeth tugged on the door frame and wouldnât let go.
