Elizabeth still couldnât remember what she was going to say after racking her brains for some time, and at the same time, Armand seemed to have regained his sanity as she watched him leave after yet another change of attire. The weariness on his face was evident, but as tired as he was at the moment, his heart was still fluttering. He couldnât fall asleep, so he decided to pay a visit to the law firm.
âMr. Bernie, someone is looking for you at the law firm. He is waiting in the guest reception room.â The receptionist informed him.
Armand nodded in understanding, âUnderstood.â
He entered the guest reception room and found that it was the young lady who was looking for him to take care of his lawsuit, but who in the end also called the whole thing off.
Armandâs face was expressionless. He asked indifferently, âHave you any favors to ask me?â.
Mademoiselle had a fair and serene countenance as she stood up, âI still vividly remember your extension of help to me last time. This is just a token of appreciation from me.â
He placed on the table a gift he had brought.
Armand pushed the gift away and said, âI wonât accept any reward for doing nothing. Iâve hardly done anything to help you, so you donât have to be so polite.â
The lady pushed the gift towards him again, âItâs not something very expensive, just high quality ginseng. You should accept it.â
Armand put the gift under the table to show that he accepted the gift. He sat down and asked, âDo you need my help with anything this time?â.
The lady shook her head, âNot this time. Back then, when I sought you out to take care of my lawsuit, only you had enough guts to accept me. Everyone else shunned me as far as possible. Although I eventually decided to drop the lawsuit as a means of seeking retribution and revenge for my daughter, I was still able to vent my frustration something good has happened for her sake. My daughterâs soul in han can finally rest in peace.â
Armand asked, âWhat do you mean by that?â.
The lady smiled, âYou must not have seen the news, have you?â.
Armand admitted that he really hadnât seen the news, so the lady revealed, âThat despicable couple who caused my daughterâs death has died in a car accident. It was only yesterday.â
âIs that so?â Armand was shocked by this news.
The lady continued, âYes, it really is as the saying goes, âbad deeds or good deeds will rebound on the one who does them.â From what I have heard, this mistress was unable to become pregnant after taking over as official mistress, and even if she was pregnant, the fetus would not develop. My grandsonâs death was caused by the Day Family, and now, they finally get their karma.â The ladyâs voice gradually grew husky as she spoke.
At the mention of the matter of the child, Armand looked down and intentionally changed the subject, âHow did the car accident happen?â
âThe Day Family is a well-to-do family with wealth and power at their disposal. There is certainly no way they would accept the end of their lineage, so they must have sought a surrogate womb. The woman must have been reluctant to accept it, so she threw a tantrum. Maybe the same thing had happened to her as to my daughter, and she was indignant about the whole thing, which pushed her to commit suicide with that heartless man while they were going to process their divorce.â The lady felt happiness dancing in her heart as she fully accepted the menu served up by karma itself.
This was the result of having hurt her beloved daughter.
âMy daughter really had the worst fate. She is so young, and the girl was so smallâ¦â The ladyâs eyes reddened with grief as she muttered, but in an instant she realized that she was overreaching. She stood up abruptly and announced, âI must have upset you.â
Armand dismissed that thought, âThatâs not a problem.â
âThen you can go back to your work. He who does good will have his reward in the end. I wish you may you always be blessed by good fortune.â Said the lady with a smile.
Armand signaled the receptionist to dismiss the guest before going to his office. He set about arranging some paperwork on a case he had accepted a few days ago.
In the past, he never accepted such a case. Since he wanted to be busy, he accepted this case without a second thought.
Today he had an appointment with the person seeking his services.
It was a woman who had suffered disloyalty from her husband while she was still pregnant. Now, she wanted nothing to do with this husband.
She was a strong-willed woman, and the moment she learned of her husbandâs unfaithful behavior, she did not become agitated venting her emotions. Instead, she knew immediately that she had to secure the family fortune in her own hands.
âAlthough you know your husband is cheating on you, you must also have substantial proof. You are now in the gestation phase, so as long as you can provide infallible proof of your husbandâs cheating, it will be a cakewalk to make it disappear from the family record.â
âI have heard that you rarely, if ever, accepted these cases, Mr. Bernie. You have my utmost gratitude for being willing to help me.â
âI am an attorney. Since I am commissioned by you, I must fight on your behalf.â Armand replied indifferently, âNow that your husband is still unaware that you have learned of his deception, you must get the most impenetrable evidence in the shortest possible time.â
âI will do so, so I expect you to do your best later as well, Mr. Bernie.â The woman stood up as she cupped her stomach.
Armand assured her that he would.
He instructed that person to walk away before diving into the information about his clientâs estate in order.
The couple owned a house that was their wedding home when they were first married. The husband paid for the property and the wife paid for the renovation. The husband was a manager of a company that was paid eight hundred thousand dollars a year. At home there was a car worth three hundred thousand dollars and they had savings in excess of one million dollars. It was a modest family, but this family was to be torn apart by the husbandâs deception.
The aforementioned assets were owned by this family, and now the wife wanted the husband removed from the family register.
It was rare to see someone who could remain so cool and calm when faced with such a situation.
The phone on the table began to ring.
Armand picked it up and pressed the answer button. Immediately he heard Berthaâs anguished voice: âMr. Bernie, something is wrong. Madame Bernie has disappeared.â
Armand frowned and asked quietly, âWhat happened?â
âShe said she wanted to get some fresh air, so I took her to the park for a walk. As we were walking, she saw someone selling steamed biscuits and wanted to try them, so she asked me to buy her one. However, within minutes of me buying the cake, she had disappeared.â
âDid you notice the whole park?â Armand stood up and started to leave his office.
âIâve had a look around. Thereâs no sign of her. I donât want this to get any worse, so Iâm calling you now.â
âI understand the situation now. Keep looking for her, Iâm on my way.â After saying that, he hung up the phone and got into his car.
