Dolores let out a laugh, seeing the hilarious look on Boyceâs face.
Boyce looked at Jasmine for a moment and then noticed the necklace around her neck. He hadnât seen Jasmine wear this necklace before. She had never worn any jewelry like a necklace before. She instantly felt panic. All the male students at his school were the same age, and besides he was busy these past two months and didnât have much at home.
He couldnât say anything to Jasmine in front of so many people. So he just bit the bullet, âYou canât take other peopleâs stuff.â
Jasmine took a bite of her food and chewed slowly. âIt was a wedding gift, so I canât refuse it.â
Boyceâs face turned ugly, âShe still gave it to you even though she knew you were married?â
Jasmine nodded.
Boyce pursed his lips, âGive it back. Iâll buy you anything you want.â
Jasmine couldnât contain her laughter, âYou really want me to give it back to Dolores?â
Boyce was speechless.
He looked up at Dolores.
Dolores looked back at him, âI gave it to her. I did it on purpose, just to give you a sense of crisis. Jasmine is young and beautiful, there must be boys chasing her in college. You have to be more attentive. You have to take it to heart, even if you are married.â
âGot it.â Boyce felt aggrieved. He had always been charming with Jasmine.
Seeing Boyce at a loss for words, Jasmine grabbed his hands from under the table. Earlier, she was still angry at him for not contacting her and stringing her along. But she softened when she saw his overwhelmed look.
Boyce squeezed her hand, his palm sweaty.
Jasmine and Boyce returned after dinner.
Jasmine sat in the passenger seat while Boyce drove. They were quiet and said nothing.
Jasmine clutched her seat belt to her chest and spoke first, âDonât you have anything to say to me?â
Actually, Boyce had a lot of things to ask Jasmine, he just didnât know how.
Jasmine sighed, âAfter you left that day, I woke up and you were already gone, you never called me. You just sent me a message, andâ¦. forget it.â
He found there was no point in mentioning it now.
Boyce pulled the car over to the side of the road. He thought for a moment before saying, âSo I was out of my depth.â
Jasmine looked down and said, âBut you rarely got in touch with me after that. Was it so hard to text me to say hello and say you missed me?â
âSometimes itâs very late, and I thought youâd be restingâ¦â
âIâve been waiting for you to get in touch with me every day.â Jasmine gave him a look, interrupting his words, her eyes filled with tears.
Boyce was instantly startled, seeing her on the verge of tears, âJasmine, Iâm sorry.â
Jasmine wiped the corners of her eyes, âForget it.â
She knew he was like that when she was with him. There was nothing to complain about.
âGo home.â
She turned her head to look straight ahead.
Boyce blamed himself for seeing her cry and reached up to wipe away her tears, âIt was an oversight on my part. Iâll call you when I have timeâ¦â.
Jasmine looked up at him, wrapped her arms around his neck, buried her face in the crook of his neck and choked, âI didnât mean to get mad at you. Itâs just that when you donât get in touch with me, I canât help but think that you donât love me, that you donât care about me, that you donât want meâ¦itâs just that weâve been so close, and I just want you to care about me moreâ¦â
Boyce hugged her, stroking her back, âI miss you so much. I love you.â
âWhy didnât you call me then?â asked Jasmine.
Boyce had nothing to say, âIt wonât happen again.â
Jasmine sniffled, âWill you call me?â
Boyce nodded, âOf course I will. Donât cry.â
Jasmine wiped her tears and said, âCome on.â
Boyce let go of her, but didnât immediately walk away. He was silent for a while before telling Jasmine, âIâve learned my lesson.â
She was still young, and he left like that after he had made her into a woman. He understood that she felt terrible that he had not accompanied and contacted her.
âTell me if you are unhappy. Sometimes I may not notice it, but you have to believe that I like you.â He, who was so at ease at work, felt lost and nervous when confronted by Jasmine.
Jasmine emitted a âhmm,â âI know.â
It was too hard to get him to figure it out on his own. It was too direct.
âLetâs go home.â Jasmine said again, and Boyce started the car this time.
After a while, the car pulled into the parking lot of the neighborhood where they lived. The two got out of the vehicle and Boyce asked, âYou said you have a lot of classes and need to stay in school. Is it because youâre mad at me?â
Jasmine laughed helplessly, âYou just found that out, huh?â Boyce was speechless.
âGee.â Jasmine held his arm, âGood. Itâll be fine when you get used to it.â
He was such a straight man. She just had to love the man she had chosen.
He was boring, so then heâd just let her take the lead.
She deserved it for loving him.
Boyce pressed the button for her floor after entering the elevator. There was no one in the elevator. Jasmine stood on tiptoe and kissed his lips, asking, âDo you miss me?â
Boyce swallowed saliva, illustrating his mood at that moment. How could he not miss her?
As the saying goes, âabsence makes the heart grow fonder.â Not to mention he had been single for a long time, how much did he miss her?
He wrapped his arm around Jasmineâs waist and pulled her into his arms, stroking her head.
The elevator stopped with a clink and they stepped out of it.
