Tomorrow was the weekend, the kids told Jayden after school that they wanted to visit Dolores in the hospital.
âGrandma!â Amanda ran to Jessica who greeted her with open arms.
She reminded her to slow down, but Amanda rushed toward her at full speed. Her momentum almost knocked Jessica over, âYou never listen to her, do you?â.
Amanda wrapped her arms around her neck, âIâve missed you and I want to hug you.â
Jessica patted her back, smiling, âWhatâs left of my life depends on you.â
âNo problem,â Amanda replied without hesitation. Any adult would be happy to hear such an answer.
âLetâs go in,â Jessica carried Amanda in her arms, âThis weight, soon I wonât be able to carry you.â
Andrew walked straight into the patient room looking for his mother, âWhereâs Mom?â.
Jessica was stunned and immediately said she was under monitoring.
âMonitoring? Has she given birth to our baby brother?â asked Andrew excitedly.
Jessica nodded.
galnovels . com is your storytelling hub âYes, Iâm a big sister now.â Amanda hugged her brother excitedly, âYouâre going to be big brother.â Andrew was speechless.
Jayden asked, âIs Dolores all right?â
Jessica looked at the children and said, âIt was critical, but sheâs fine now.â
âDid Mom give birth to a girl or a boy?â asked Andrew.
Jessica forgot to ask.
âI donât know. The doctor didnât mention it and I forgot to ask.â Jessica slapped her forehead, âHow could I have forgotten?â
Maybe the situation was critical and intense. They focused solely on the safety of the baby and the mother and were relieved once her condition stabilized. No one remembered to ask about the babyâs gender.
âCan we take a look at the baby? Then we could ask the doctor if we have a sister or brother,â Andrew asked again.
Jessica said they couldnât see the baby yet, but they could ask the doctor about the gender.
âAre we going to the doctor now?â said Jessica.
âGreat, I want to see the baby.â Amanda was thrilled to see the baby.
And so, Jayden, Jessica and the children headed to the doctorâs office.
The doctor told them it was a boy. âIs it a boy,â asked Andrew, âCan we see him?â.
âNo,â the doctor replied.
And he was not fit to be seen at that moment.
Andrew bit his lips, disappointed.
âIs my mother all right?â asked Andrew.
The doctor was glad to see him regarding his mother. âSheâs fine, you can see her tomorrow,â he replied, smiling.
âThank you,â Andrew thanked the doctor.
âItâs our job,â the doctor replied.
Andrew again thanked the doctor for keeping his mother and brother safe.
âWhereâs Dad?â asked Andrew as they left the doctorâs office.
âMomâs due date is such an important day, whereâs Dad?
âYour dad is up to something, I guess heâll be back soon,â Jessica explained.
âWhatâs more important than mom and the baby? He should be here,â Andrew complained.
âHeâs not, he was here and he just left,â Jessica explained patiently.
Andrew let out a sigh of disappointment at not being able to see his brother and mother.
A week laterâ¦
Doloresâ condition stabilized, while the babyâs bruises were also disappearing.
She was moved to the patient bundle. The hallway outside her room was filled with bouquets of flowers sent by Matthewâs friends and business acquaintances, congratulating him on the newborn.
Oscar came straight from C-Town bringing gifts upon hearing that Dolores had given birth to a son.
Coincidentally Boyce, Jasmine, Armand and Theresa also came to visit.
The room was full of people.
While Jessica was busy serving drinks and fruit, Oscar delivered his gift to Dolores.
She had improved after a few days of rest and was able to get out of bed.
âWhatâs this?â she asked as she looked at the gift in his hand.
âTake a look,â Oscar said.
She could guess what was in the bag, âI told youâ¦â.
âGive it to your youngest son if you donât want it. This might keep him from fighting over money with his brother in the future,â Oscar interrupted, smiling.
Dolores smiled, too.
âKeep it,â Oscar said.
Dolores assumed, âBut youâll still have to manage it.â
âOf course, Iâm still young, Iâll hand it over when I retire.â Oscar knew she was busy.
Matthew approached at that moment.
âHave you named the child?â Oscar asked.
âNot yet, why donât you name him,â Dolores said.
Oscar hesitated and took a look at Matthew, he was her son, he needed her agreement.
âYou can name the child, Dolores decides everything in our family,â Matthew said.
Was that the so-called public display of affection? thought Oscar.
