Matthew laughed and pointed his finger at Doloresâ chest, âDoes it tickle here?â. Dolores grabbed Matthewâs hand and asked him to stop playing.
Matthew laughed, âYou played with me first.â
Dolores adjusted her body to a comfortable position. She smiled and asked Matthew, âWhen have I ever played with you?
Matthew, âWhen have I ever played with you?â.
Matthew smiled, âYou tell me.â
âI donât know. You tell me,â Dolores replied in a playful tone.
Matthew smiled resignedly. He pinched Doloresâ nose, âYouâre naughty.â
Dolores patted Matthewâs hand, âIt hurts.â
Matthew let go of Dolores and lay down next to her. He wrapped his arms around her and patted her bottom, âMake sure you have a smooth delivery.â
Dolores kissed Matthewâs forehead and said, âOur child will be safe.â
Then Dolores stopped talking. Matthew was exhausted, so he fell asleep quickly.
gαâηÏνððsâ¤Ã§Ð¾m, where stories thrive Dolores woke up at about six in the morning. She picked up the phone and called Noah. She wanted to tell him that she couldnât attend their wedding reception.
Dolores had been in contact with Noah since the wedding. They texted each other a lot.
Noah was also worried about Doloresâ pregnancy.
Dolores didnât tell Noah about her condition. She didnât want people to worry about her. Besides, Noah was busy in the military.
Noah rarely had time to go back. He was only able to return for his wedding after getting approval from the army.
Dolores wanted to go to the wedding. It wasnât because of Jeffrey. Noah didnât have to pay for his parents.
But Dolores couldnât ignore his health condition.
The call connected quickly. Before Dolores could say anything, Noah asked, âWhen are you coming, do you need me to come pick you up here?â
Suddenly, Dolores didnât know how to answer Noahâs question.
âHello?â
Noah sensed something wasnât right, âWhat happened?â
Dolores quickly replied, âItâs nothing. Noah, Iâm afraid I wonât be able to attend your wedding reception. Iâ¦â
âWhy?â Noah stopped Dolores before she finished her explanation. He looked disappointed, âIs it because of my father?â
Dolores looked down, âNoâ¦â
âThen what is it?â
âIâm not exactly in good healthâ¦â
âItâs an excuse!â Noah didnât believe what Dolores was saying. Dolores never mentioned that she was sick. Sometimes Noah would ask Dolores how she had been feeling, and she would say she was fine. How come she was sick when he asked her to attend his wedding reception?
Did Dolores want to avoid them?
Noah believed they had gotten over what had happened in the past and had decided to just cherish the moment. He thought they no longer had a connection to what happened in the past.
âIâm disappointed in your absence. Itâs been a long time since weâve seen each other. I wanted to see you. I also wanted you to be by my side at the most important event of my life.â
Dolores pouted, âIâm sorry.â
âI donât need your apology, and you have nothing to be sorry for. Instead, we owe you, but I really hope youâre here. You can tell me if something bothers you. Iâll take care of it for you. If you donât want to see my dad, I can ask him not toâ¦â
âNoahâ¦â
Dolores stopped Noah. It wasnât about Jeffrey. Matthew had let him go, so Dolores wouldnât hold a grudge either. Besides, Jeffrey had already been punished.
Dolores felt resigned.
âIâll pick you up at nine,â then Noah hung up the phone.
Dolores sighed. She stared at the phone not knowing what to do.
âIâll talk to him,â a voice rose next to Dolores. She turned and saw Matthew staring at her.
âDid you wake up?â asked Dolores.
Matthew got out of bed and took a deep breath. He turned and looked at Dolores. Dolores pouted and asked, âDid you hear everything?â. Matthew nodded and got off the bed.
Dolores lay down and felt conflicted.
Matthew came out of the bathroom after freshening up. He grabbed a shirt and put it on. Dolores glared at Matthew, âAre you going to be busy at work today?â.
Matthew returned Doloresâ gaze. He knew what she was going to say, so he didnât answer her right away. Instead, he kept looking at Dolores.
Dolores curved her lips, âCan you come with me?â
Matthew buttoned his sleeves and walked toward Dolores. He didnât want her to attend the wedding reception. Doloresâ due date was near, what if something happened to her?
Dolores understood what Matthew meant when he remained silent. She tugged on his arms and said carefully, âIâve thought about it. The wedding is important to him. Itâs a once in a lifetime thing. He wanted me to be there very much, and it seemed inappropriate for me not to go.â
Matthew looked at Dolores, and didnât feel like acceding to her request, âDo you understand the danger youâre putting yourself in now?â
Dolores nodded, âI do.â
âThen why do you still want to go?â Matthew sounded grumpy.
It was already dangerous at this stage of pregnancy. What if something happened to Dolores when she was at the wedding reception?
Matthew wouldnât interfere with Doloresâ decision if she was healthy, and he would go with her, too, as long as she was healthy. But that wasnât what was happening with Dolores now. It could put Dolores and her son in danger.
Matthew didnât want to risk anything at all.
Dolores let go of Matthew. She knew he wouldnât agree .
