Officer Miller put the picture frame down in his hand when he saw Boyce. He walked over to Boyce and said, âCome over here and have a seat.â He pulled Boyce to sit on the couch.
âIâve retired.â said Officer Miller.
Boyce looked at him for a long time and remained silent.
He knew Officer Miller was very sad to leave the job. He loved his job and now he was retiring early, so he must be very upset.
âOfficer Miller, as a matter of factâ¦â
Officer Miller waved his hand to indicate Boyce to stop his words. His mind was made up and he had nothing to regret.
âI have recommended you to replace my position, but the superiors will also have to vet the right people first. You should try to have a good performance.â
Officer Miller looked around the office, âI actually feel a little reluctant to leave here. Itâs not that I feel reluctant to leave this post. Itâs just that I feel reluctant to leave this place. I love it here after working here for so long.â
Boyce looked down and didnât know what words he could say to comfort him.
âHey, letâs talk about other things. Forget all the unpleasant things before this. After all, Iâm still your boss today.â Officer Miller patted Boyceâs shoulder.
Boyce nodded, âI didnât take it personally.â
âI trust you. Itâs all my fault for causing this accident.â Officer Miller looked remorseful as he said in a melancholy tone.
Boyce said nothing, but merely listened in silence.
âYou can get on with your work first. I have finished gathering my things and am ready to go.â Officer Miller stood up. Boyce also followed him to stand up, âIâll see you out.â
Officer Miller smiled and said, âGood. I donât regret having you as a subordinate.â

When they were outside, Officer Miller asked them not to fire him and returned alone.
Regardless of what had happened before, they all felt sad and reluctant when Officer Miller left. They were fond of him after having been his subordinates for so long.
Boyce stood at the door as he dismissed Officer Miller. He, too, was feeling very upset.
âNow that Officer Miller is gone, itâs time for Boyce to become the officer.â Someone said.
Boyce said, âGo to work.â
âOfficer Shawn.â The person joked.
Boyce was immediately angry, âDonât talk nonsense!â
He thought they shouldnât make that joke as it wasnât good when someone heard it.
The person smiled.
When it was time for the meeting, the crowd dispersed. Those who had to attend the meeting headed for the conference room.
In the evening, Boyce went to take Elizabeth to the hospital when he finished his work.
At the time, the doctor was doing a check-up, so Boyce did not push the lady into the room, but waited outside.
Elizabeth didnât believe it when she heard Boyce say that Armand had been in a car accident. She thought Armand had done it on purpose.
Because she couldnât accept the fact that Theresa couldnât have children.
Now that she got to the hospital. She felt very uneasy because she feared that Armand had really had a car accident.
After a while, the door to the examination room opened and Armand pushed his way out, followed by Theresa. When Theresa saw that Boyce had brought Elizabeth in, she was stunned for a moment. Then she regained consciousness and followed the medical staff.
Elizabeth was shaking unconsciously. She stared at the person lying on the bed and being pushed. Soon she saw the face of the person lying in the hospital bed. It was her grandson, Armand.
âArmandâ¦â
Boyce pushed Elizabeth, who was agitated.
She grabbed Armandâs hand, âArmand, wake up please.â
âDonât shake the patientâs hand.â The doctor stopped his behavior, âThe patient has injured his head and it is not appropriate to shake his body.â
The doctor immediately withdrew her hand because she was afraid of causing another injury to Armand.
However, she was very frightened because Armandâs injury was severe.
âDoctor, how is my grandsonâs injury?â Elizabeth cried until her eyes were red.
âItâs not life-threatening, but Iâm not sure when he will wake up.â Said the doctor.
âThe doctor is not sure when he will wake up?
Elizabeth was so anxious that she said in a rambling tone, âHeâ¦he will wake up, wonât he?â.
She thought that many people were not able to wake up again and remained in a vegetative state after suffering an accident.
At the thought, he panicked and his face turned pale.
The doctor placed his glasses on his nose and said with a very unnatural expression, âIt depends.â
Elizabethâs body wobbled and she almost fainted.
Boyce immediately hugged her, âBut the doctor said there is still hope for her to wake up.â
Elizabeth wiped the tears from her face and said, âItâs all my fault. Itâs my fault.â
In the last few days, they argued every time they met and argued with each other. They didnât have a proper talk. She knew that Armand liked Theresa and still disagreed with their relationship.
She thought he must be in a bad mood to drink and drive and this caused the car accident.
âArmand. Iâm wrong. Wake up quickly.â Elizabeth cried on the side of the bed.
Theresa looked at Boyce and whispered, âWhy did you bring Mrs. Bernie here?â
Boyce said, âWe canât keep this from her. Sheâs going to have to know someday.â
âItâs best to send the patient to the ward first.â Said the doctor as he thought they were blocking the way there.
Armand was forwarded to the ward and Elizabeth followed them.
She was heartbroken to see her grandson in an unconscious state and looking pale.
She held his hand and cried again.
âArmand, please wake up, why are you leaving me in such fear of losing you when I am so old?â Elizabeth was so distraught that she didnât give the impression of her usual self. It was truly a shock to her to see Armandâs current situation.
Theresa poured Elizabeth a glass of water, âDrink some water.â Elizabeth lifted her head and gave Theresa a look.
