Dolores laughed. As it turned out. She had thought there was something wrong with her baby.
âIf your tummy hurts, you should call the doctor right away,â the doctor reminded her.
Dolores nodded, âI know. Thank you, doctor.â
The doctor feared that Dolores didnât like the baby either because she thought it looked ugly. Earlier, there was a video on the Internet in which a pregnant woman was crying while walking. It was because she had seen the babyâs face through the four-dimensional B ultrasound and thought it looked ugly.
It was so ugly that the mother-to-be was heartbroken.
The doctor told her, âMr. Nelson and you are handsome, so your baby will not be ugly. It is still small and developing. Please donât worry.â
Dolores said with a smile, âYes, I know. It doesnât matter.â
It didnât matter that her baby was ugly, she wouldnât dislike it as long as it was healthy.
The doctor would continue with the ward round, so she left.
Matthew came in, seeing that Dolores was laughing. He asked, âWhat happened to make you so happy?â
gαâηÏνððsâ¤com, home to unforgettable stories Dolores didnât answer him. Pointing to the breakfast on the table, she said, âI left the food for you. Hurry up and eat it. Itâs getting cold.â
Matthew sat down in front of the table and picked up the chopsticks. Dolores asked, âDoes it upset you that our baby is ugly?â
Matthew turned to give her a look and seemed to understand what she was laughing at. He said solemnly, âNo matter how ugly he is, heâs my baby, whatâs wrong with him not being handsome?â
Dolores giggled, âDoesnât that bother you?â
Matthew coughed gently. He inwardly groaned at the doctor who told Dolores his secret.
âI wasnât upset. Iâm very happy.â
Lying on the bed, Dolores asked, âWill you be going out today?â
Matthew nodded. He needed to get out to take care of Emma, so he couldnât stay at the hospital to accompany her.
Jessica poured him a glass of water and said, âThen Iâll take care of her here. I wonât leave until you get back.â
Matthew agreed, âThatâs fine. Please make sure there is always someone with her. If anything happens, the doctor can be notified,â he reminded Jessica.
Jessica nodded, âI know.â
After breakfast, Jessica took out the lunch boxes to wash the dishes. Matthew began massaging Doloresâ legs, which had swollen. They also cramped frequently at night.
Sometimes they cramped several times in a single night.
In the past, Matthew had thought the pregnancy was fairly straightforward. But since Doloresâ health had deteriorated, he had realized that the woman could not only die in childbirth, but would also suffer greatly during the pregnancy.
Since she could not go out, Dolores felt very bored. Squinting her eyes, she asked, âAre you taking care of your companyâs business today?â Matthew emitted a âhmm.â
After Jessica returned, Matthew left. Before leaving the room, he said, âIâll try to get back as soon as possible.â
Dolores said, âDonât worry. Go on with your work. Iâm in the hospital now. Nothing can happen.â
Jessica sat on the edge of the bed, âDo you want to eat some fruit?â.
Dolores shook her head, âNo thanks, Mom.â
She had just finished breakfast, so she wasnât hungry yet.
There was a knock at the door.
Jessica got up and opened the door. A nurse was at the door.
She said a lady was visiting Dolores and asked if she should let the lady in.
Jessica asked, âWho is the young lady?â
âShe said her last name is Gordon,â the nurse replied.
Jessica thought it was Theresa, so she asked the nurse to let her in without asking Dolores.
However, when the woman went to the door, Jessica found that it was not Theresa. Standing in the doorway, she looked at Emma alertly and asked, âWho are you?â
Emma had checked out Matthew and Dolores, so she knew that Doloresâ best friend was Theresa.
Hence, she lied to the nurse that her name was Gordon.
With a bouquet of flowers in her hand, Emma said with a smile, âIâm here to see Mrs. Nelson.â
Jessica said, âI donât know her. Sheâs not well. She canât see anyone now. Iâm afraid you must leave.â
Emma continued to smile, âIâm not a bad woman. You donât need to be so alert. Iâm here to see Mrs. Nelson. If you donât believe me, you can ask her.â
Dolores overheard their conversation in the bedroom. She sat and listened to them carefully.
The womanâs voice sounded quite familiar.
She soon recognized the woman.
It was Emma Bailey.
She wondered what Emma would be doing here.
âExcuse me, Mrs. Nelson, may I speak with you for a moment, please?â Emma could only shout inward as Jessica didnât want to let her in.
Dolores didnât respond.
Emma did not give up. She continued, âI have no ill intent. Iâm on your territory, so I donât dare do anything. I just want to talk to you.â
Dolores thought for a moment and said, âMom, please let her in.â
Jessica said, âMatthew has told me not to let anyone in that I donât know. I donât know this woman. You need to rest. You better not see her.â
âI do know her. Please let her in,â Dolores said.
Jessica glanced at Emma, âYou only have a few minutes.â
Emma said, âOkay.â
Jessica led Emma into the bedroom.
Dolores was on alert inwardly, but outwardly seemed quite calm.
Even her eyes were quite calm.
Emma tried her best to put discord between Matthew and her, with the aim of separating them. Dolores wondered why she had suddenly shown up here.
Was she causing trouble again?
âMay I have a private conversation with Mrs. Nelson, please?â Emma glanced at Jessica.
Jessica shook her head, âI must stay here.â
Emma glanced at Dolores, âMay I please?â
Dolores held the remote control for the alert in her hands. As soon as she pressed the button, the doctor would rush in.
Dolores nodded her head. Looking at Jessica, she said, âOkay, Mom. Please wait by the door for a moment.â
Jessica frowned, âMatthew doesnât want you to meet anyone alone.â
Dolores smiled, âI know her. Sheâll be fine.â
Jessica could only agree, âOkay. Ask her to leave the room as soon as possible.â
Dolores said, âI know.â
Jessica left the room and closed the door.
Dolores immediately wiped the smile off her face, âTell me. Why are you here?â
Emma smiled, âDonât be so hostile to me. I bought the flowers at a florist on the way here, do you like them?â
She put the bouquet of lilies and roses on the bedside table.
