Theresa looked at him and said, âI donât have a car.â
Boyce pulled out his car key and said, âThen take my car,â Theresa turned and stared at him.
Boyce smiled, âWhy, is there something wrong if I let you drive my car?â.
âOf course thereâs something wrong. You know I donât know how to drive. And if I drive into the river, whose fault would that be?â Theresa purposely mentioned the incident of falling into the river in the past.
Boyce pursed his lips, âWhy canât you see the goodness in people?â
âWhat, has there been another argument?â interjected Kevin Forbes with a smile.
âYes, theyâre still arguing. Iâll end up taking the blame if I help them.â complained Boyce when presented with the opportunity.
Jessica Lennon laughed and advised, âTheresa, let it go.â
Kevin Forbis also agreed: âYouâre all young, go out and have fun if you have nothing to do. If thereâs a problem, just work it out, try to get along and stop the arguments. Hurry up, get married and have babies. Youâre not young anymore, how much longer do you all want to wait?â. The mood suddenly changed.
Armand Bernie and Boyce gave Theresa a simultaneous look.
The person who said this obviously didnât know that Theresa was infertile.
ðÃЯE ðPÄÎTÎÅ IÐ GÎÅÐÃVÎÅÅ.áÃá° Theresa was holding some plates and when she heard what Kevin said, she suddenly became nervous. Her hands suddenly went limp and the dishes fell to the floor with a clanging sound.
Everyone was shocked.
Armand was the first to react. He reached over and took her hand. In a low voice, he said, âDonât worry. Itâs just some broken dishes, itâs all right.â
Theresa came to her senses, âMy hands slipped.â
âItâs no big deal.â Coral smiled and squatted down to sweep the floor.
Everyone said she was fine.
âDear elders, weâll say goodbye first.â Armand tugged on Theresaâs hands.
âMind the road,â Jessica said.
âWe will.â Armand tugged Theresa and called to Boyce, âYou drive.â
âI thought you werenât drinking?â Armand asked.
Boyce made an unwilling face, âI havenât been drinking, but does that mean I have to be your driver?â
âYou think Iâm willing to let you be my driver? Youâre the third wheel. Theresa also drank just now, so she canât drive. You brought me here, so you should drive me back too.â
âAh, well, looks like you got me,â Boyce said and got out.
Armand took Theresaâs hand and followed Boyce. When he reached the car, he pressed the key fob and the carâs headlights flashed. Boyce sat in the driverâs seat.
Boyce specifically mentioned, âYou two sit in the back.â
Armand was about to open the back door when he heard what Boyce said. He paused and replied, âYou donât need to mention it Not that Iâd want to sit next to you in the first place.â
Boyce snorted, âWhat the hell.â
As the two talked nonsense to each other, they forgot all about Theresaâs traumatizing episode.
Sitting in the car, Armand remained expressionless. Nor did he offer any words of comfort to Theresa. He merely gripped her hands tightly.
Boyce drove the car with his eyes fixed on the road. He didnât want to disturb them.
âYou donât have to comfort me, Iâm fine,â Theresa said.
Armand pursed his lips.
âIâll talk to Mrs. Bernie when I get back. As soon as everything is settled, weâll go apply for our marriage certificate. Iâm serious, we can live in C-Town, since your career is based there too.â Armand was thinking of what was best for Theresa.
Theresa also knew that Armand was doing everything for her sake, and she also hoped Elizabeth would approve. She fully appreciated everything Armand had done so far and had no desire to make things difficult for him.
She looked down at Armandâs hand and patted his back with her other hand, âIâll wait for you, Iâll stay in B-town for a few days. You can come get me when youâre free.â
She had developed a soft spot for Armand, she knew that Armand was suffering a lot. Being trapped between her and Elizabeth, she could understand how painful it could be.
Soon after, the car pulled up to the hospital. Armand said, âWeâve arrived.â
Theresa sat still, âI donât think Iâll be getting out, Iâll meet Mrs. Bernie next time.â
Armand nodded, now really wasnât the time.
He would let the two meet again when everything was settled.
Armand got out of the car and said to Boyce, âDrive slowly.â Boyce nodded.
As Armand drove off, Boyce began to drive. Theresa turned to glance at Armandâs back until he disappeared from her view. Then she saw another car following them. Through the rear windshield, she could see the driver.
The driver was a woman, and she looked familiar.
âMr. Boyce, look at the car in the back.â
