Armand squatted by the wall and pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket. He shook out a piece, popped it in his mouth and awkwardly lit it.
It was also the first time Theresa had seen him smoke.
She knew very well that Armand never smoked.
However, at that moment he was hiding and smoking in a secluded spot.
She could see how frustrated he felt inside.
Come to think of it, she herself was infertile and her only family was urging her to get married and have children. How could she not be suffering inside?
Theresa didnât want to see him suffer so much.
She turned away in silence. She no longer went up to see Elizabeth because she had underestimated Elizabethâs desire for a great-grandchild.
She didnât think too much about it as she approached. He just wanted to see Armand and visit Elizabeth. It was this unplanned action that allowed her to see clearly the problem between her and Armand.
How long could they be together if they had no children?
Armand might not want one, but it would be impossible for his grandmother not to want one.
She sat down by the flower garden on the edge of the road and called Armand as she pulled out her phone. The call was answered when it connected after it rang for a while.
Theresa could imagine what he was doing when he answered the phone late.
She was probably adjusting her mood or putting out the cigarette in her hand.
âTheresa.â
Soon Armandâs soothing voice rang out.
gⱯlnÏνð®âsï¹ðoðº is where stories live If she didnât see him hiding and smoking to relieve his emotions, she would definitely think he was in a good mood right now as she listened to his voice through the phone.
However, she knew that Armand was only faking his good mood right now.
He was hiding his feelings in front of her.
âItâs nothing. I just wanted to call you,â Theresa lowered her head and looked down at her toes, âArmand.â
âHmm?â
Theresa really wanted to say, âLetâs break up.
âAnd letâs stop tormenting each other.â
But she couldnât say it out loud.
She could sense that Armand still had feelings for her.
She felt the same way, too.
âWhy donât you talk, did you miss me?â
When Armandâs voice echoed, it sent Theresaâs thoughts drifting back.
He said, âI donât know what to say.â
Theresa stood up and tossed the flowers she had bought into the trash can on the side of the road, âI still have work to do. Iâm going to hang up nowâ¦â
âDonât hang up.â
Armand was quick to interrupt her. He was afraid she would hang up.
Theresa asked, âDid something happen?â
âYou called me, but youâre going to hang up without even saying you miss me. Isnât that too harsh?â
Theresa hailed a cab, got in, and said, âArmand, can you stop being so immature?â
âIâm immature?â Armandâs voice boomed. Before Theresa could respond, he spoke again, âIâm immature, but I just want to be immature with you.â
Theresa clutched her phone tightly. Her heart seemed to have been pricked by something.
The cab driver asked, âMiss, where are you going?â
âWhere are you, Theresa?â
âIâm in a car outside.â
Armand hesitated, âDidnât you say you were going to work a while ago? Why are you in a car right now?â
âIâm going out to see a client, Armand. I still have something to do. Iâm hanging up now.â
âWell, get on with your work. I miss you, Theresa, even if you donât miss me. Take good care of yourself. Iâll see you when Mrs. Bernie gets out of the hospital in a few days.â
âMhm,â Theresa muttered, âIâll hang up now.â After saying that, she hung up immediately.
She felt her heart was gripped by something. It was so suffocating that she couldnât even breathe.
She couldnât tell if it was a heart ache or if it hurt somewhere else. She couldnât control the tightness in her throat and the twitching of her nose. She just wanted to cry.
She covered her mouth and nose with her palm and choked.
The driver in front of her didnât know where to go either, so he asked again in a whisper, âMiss, where are you going?â
Theresa came to and realized she was sitting inside a car at that moment. She hurried to answer and gave him the address of the villa.
Since she was here, she was going to visit the two children and Dolores Flores.
The driver started the car and asked her, âAre you heartbroken?â.
Theresa summoned up her emotions and asked, âWhere in me did you see that I am heartbroken?â
The driver smiled, âYou look very beautiful, so of course youâre not going to be heartbroken. Iâm sure there are plenty of people who like you.â
Theresa smiled, âBeautiful? Donât you know plastic surgery is all the rage now? Iâve had my whole face done.â
âEveryone has a desire to be beautiful. Itâs normal.â Theresa didnât answer any more.
After a while, the car stopped at the gates of the villa, and Theresa got out of the car after paying.
The driver gazed at the single, detached building outside the window. He sighed, âIndeed, she has money to have plastic surgery since she lives in such a nice villa.â
The driver withdrew his envious gaze as he drove his car away.
Theresa walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Coral came to answer the door. Coral was the only one home, as Jasmine Burke and the two children were going to school, Jayden Nelson and Kevin Forbis were not home. Coral wasnât sure where they were going either, but they would pick up the kids anyway and get them home on time.
âMiss Gordon,â Coral hurriedly stepped aside to let her in.
Theresa smiled, âHow are you, Coral?â
Coral smiled too and said, âIâm the same. My health has been fine.â
After entering the house, Coral asked, âWhat would you like to drink?â
Theresa said, âWater is fine.â
Coral poured her a glass of water and brought it over to her. Theresa took it. She was about to ask if Dolores was home when she heard Coral sigh, âMrs. Nelson has been gone for two days now. I wonder how she is now.â
Theresa raised her head to look at Coral and asked, âWhat did you say?â
âI said Mrs. Nelson went overseas? Didnât you know?â Coral thought she knew.
She thought Dolores would tell her.
Dolores didnât call Theresa to tell her she was going overseas. Now that she was overseas, Theresa would definitely ask her why.
She didnât want other people to worry about her.
âWhat happened?â asked Theresa nervously. How could she go overseas at that time while pregnant?
âIt seems it was because of Mrs. Nelsonâs health. Iâm not sure of the details either,â Coral said.
Theresa pulled out her phone and called Dolores. However, she couldnât get through. She frowned, âWhy canât I get a hold of her?â
âMaybe itâs because sheâs overseas.â guessed Coral.
Theresa grabbed her phone and got up. She decided to find Boyce Shawn and ask him.
She didnât want Armand to know she was back already, so she could only go find Boyce.
Why did Dolores have to go overseas for her health? She really wanted to know.
As she walked down the hallway to open the door, someone was about to enter from outside.
When she saw someone coming, she was stunned for a long moment.
