Boyce made his way to the office building with hesitation on his mind and found the principalâs office. As he raised his hand and prepared to knock on the door, he heard Wendyâs voice.
âWhat makes you look for me?â The voice speaking was that of a woman, the principalâs daughter, very close to Wendy.
âCanât I come to you if I have nothing to do?â Wendyâs voice did not sound energetic.
âWhat happened, donât you have a good relationship with your boyfriend?â The principalâs daughter could see that Wendyâs expression didnât look good.
Wendy nodded her head, âWe might break up.â
She didnât dare to argue with Boyce, as she feared he knew about her dark past, which was something scandalous that she didnât dare to reveal.
She could only give up this relationship, even if she was unwilling to do so.
âHasnât that girl named Jasmine Burke already left B-town? Wasnât she going over herself and embarrassing herself in front of all the teachers and students at school last time? How dare she have the shame to compete with you for a man?â
âNo, sheâs a stupid woman.â Wendy had no idea that Jasmine had already returned and had even come back together with Boyce.
Boyce had arranged for Jasmine to stay at Matthew Nelsonâs house because Wendy had been suspicious and had purposely gone to Boyceâs house, but found no one there.
The reason she came to the school was also to make sure if Jasmine was back again, but it turned out she wasnât at school either.
âI think that girl is very smart, why has she become dumb?â asked the principalâs daughter with a smile.
Wendy was close to her, so she spoke directly, âYou know she even looked me up before she left?â
âHuh, why did she look you up?â
âShe had low self-esteem. She thought she was going to hinder Boyce and said Boyce and I can have a good future if we are both together. She expected me to treat him well. In fact, I want to treat him well too, but now she has changed her mind.â Wendy bristled at the memory of Boyceâs harsh attitude.
âWas his brain damaged when he drowned for a while? Itâs clear that he promised to go out with me before and now he wants to break up with me as soon as he gets back and tells me that weâre not right for each other and that he doesnât like me.â
âMaybe itâs true that he doesnât like you.â The principalâs daughter laughed.
âHe disgusts me.â Wendy pretended to be angry.
Boyce was standing erect in front of the door. Although his face remained expressionless, his heart was full of emotion.
It turned out that Wendy was the one who had made him come to school and bumped into Jasmine when she was reviewing herself in front of all the teachers and students.
The reason Jasmine decided to leave him was that she was afraid to hold him back.
Suddenly, she felt that the girl was too dumb.
It broke his heart to know her foolishness.
Luckily, he knew everything and could take good care of her in the future.
He clenched his hands and repeated it several times until his body relaxed considerably. He raised his hand and knocked on the door.
âWho is it?â The principalâs daughter froze for a moment when she saw that it was Boyce after opening the door.
Wendyâs face changed in an instant right after seeing the person standing in the doorway. Maybe because she had done something wrong and had a bad conscience, the first thing that came to her mind was: when did she come, did she hear anything.
âBo⦠Boyce, what are you doing here?â he got up from the couch.
Boyceâs face was calm, âI came to see the principal to discuss something.â
âYou can come in, my father has gone to a meeting and will be back later.â The directorâs daughter stepped aside and let him in.
Boyce walked in and his eyes fell on Wendyâs face. He thought he knew her well. After all, her father was such a decent person, she should be like her father too.
At that moment, he realized that he was wrong and that it was ridiculous.
âAre you free? Letâs go out together and talk a little,â Boyce said.
He wanted to take this opportunity to speak plainly to her.
âYou can talk here if you have something to say. Iâll go out first.â The principalâs daughter gave Wendy a wink, trying to imply that she should take this opportunity to explain herself.
She then left the office after giving Wendy a hint and closed the office door behind her.
âWhatâ¦what do you want to talk to me about?â Wendy felt vaguely uneasy.
It was as if Boyce was about to have a confrontation with him. However, she was right in her perception.
Boyce got right to the point and said, âI inadvertently know why you got divorced.â
Wendyâs body immediately stiffened and she firmly refused, âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
âYou understand and know exactly what Iâm talking about. Itâs your business that youâre not willing to admit it, but itâs my business that I know itâs a fact. It was unintentional today that I heard something I shouldnât have. I used to think you must be a good person, but now I see that Iâm wrong and that we really arenât right for each other.â
Wendy bit her lip, âYou spied on us.â
âI already told you I didnât want to listen.â Boyce sat back, âAs long as you promise to break it off, I can keep her secret for Officer Millerâs sake. Iâm willing to forgive you once, but just this once.â
He said and stared at her, âHarassing a parentless orphan is despicable.â
Wendy clenched her hands into fists and gritted her teeth: âAre you here to teach me a lesson?â.
Boyce snorted with contempt, âIâm not your father, so I definitely have no right to lecture you. I just feel bad for Officer Miller. If he finds out what youâve done, he must be very sad. Not to mention, if he knows that I am aware of it, he will even feel disgraced. You must know that your father has always been open and honest, especially since he is a worthy person.â
Of course, Wendy knew this, which is why she feared that her secret had been revealed.
She clearly understood that she had no way out but to accept Boyceâs proposal.
âI promise you that we will part peacefully. However, you must promise not to tell anyone, AND the secret must die with you!â
âSure.â
Boyce agreed immediately.
His goal was to end his relationship with Wendy, he had no plan to bring the situation to a stalemate. He was willing to keep the secret even for Officer Millerâs sake.
âI hope you understand that all my tolerance today is for your fatherâs sake.â Boyceâs expression was extraordinarily cold and stern.
It was the first time Wendy had ever seen such an expression from Boyce. Her heart shrank fiercely, then she grabbed her purse on the couch and ran out.
