Emma didnât seem to be frightened. Instead, she relaxedly got up from the couch, walked over to Abbott, tugged on his tie and said, âI know Iâm no match for him. But I still have you, donât I? Donât you work for him?â.
Abbott looked down at his hand and sneered, âWhy are you so sure Iâm going to help you?â
Emma reached up to her chin and blew hot air at him, âIf you donât want to help your wife, who else do you want to help?â
âAre you kidding me?â Abbott pinched her cheeks, âYou willingly throw yourself at me. You donât deserve to be my wife.â
Emma didnât get angry. She just laughed and said, âWhether I throw myself at you or you find me willingly, all that doesnât matter. What matters is that you slept with me, are you trying to deny it now? Should I go public and sue you for rape?â Abbott narrowed his eyes.
âDonât stare at me.â Emma lifted her leg and rubbed it against his side, âIâd rather you be gentler with me.â Abbott was speechless.
âCan you show some dignity, can you stop being such a bitch?â Abbott shoved her away.
Emma hit the corner of the table. She grabbed her leg and said, âAbbott, youâve gone too far.â
âYouâre the one whoâs gone too far. Do you really think Iâm going to listen to you just because I slept with you? Itâs just some pictures; you can give them to whoever you want. As for the video, you can give it to any media you want, I donât care. You can never threaten me.
After saying this, Abbott walked out and closed the door behind him.
Emma sat down at the table and glanced at the closed door. She clenched her fists tightly.
She refused to give up. She pulled out her phone and called him.
Abbot was driving. He heard his phone ring, pulled it out and saw that it was her name. He didnât pick it up, but tossed it aside and let it ring.
Seeing that he didnât take her call, Emma wasnât discouraged. Instead, she opted to send him a text message.
Soon enough, the phone stopped ringing and the text message notification rang. Abbott reached out and looked at his phone. The content was, [Donât you want your future anymore?]
Abbott pulled the car over to the side of the road and replied to her text, [Do I still have a future after meeting you?].
Emma didnât give up, [Can you really give up your dignity for your boss?]
[Emma, do I still have any dignity after meeting you?]
Emma bit her lip and dialed his number once more. This time, Abbott took her call, âWhat more do you want?â
Emma, âCan you really give up your future?â
Abbott answered her without hesitation, âYes.â
âAre you a dog? Why do you have to be so loyal? Youâre just working for him. If you help me, I can let you become your own boss. You are capable, I canâ¦â
âEmma, do you think others are equal to the Bailey Family? A person without humanity and morals is worse than a pig or a dog. I canât control you, Emma, but you might as well stop thinking about manipulating me.â Emma held her phone and did not speak for a long while.
Abbott asked her, âWhy arenât you talking?â
âI donât know what to say,â Emma muttered.
She really couldnât refute Abbott. She understood that her father and brother were to blame for what had happened to them. But she was his daughter and his sister, she couldnât remain indifferent to what had happened.
âAbbott, Iâm asking you for the last time, are you really not going to help me?â asked Emma.
Abbott gave her the same answer, âIâm not going to betray my boss.â
âAll right. No regrets.â After saying this, Emma hung up the call.
Abbott looked at the screen of his phone, which showed that the other party had already hung up, and the beep was on. She pressed the end button, tossed the phone aside, rested her elbows on the steering wheel wheels and covered her face.
He let go of his hand after a long moment. After some thought, he finally made up his mind.
He started the car again and drove to the company.
He parked the car, got into the elevator and stopped at the office level. After exiting the elevator, he headed straight for Matthewâs office.
Just as he was about to knock on Matthewâs door, the secretary said, âThe boss is not in.â
Abbott turned around and asked, âWhere did he go?â
âI donât know where heâs gone. Heâs not on the schedule.â Said the secretary.
She really had no idea where Matthew had gone. His private business was not on the agenda.
Abbott furrowed his eyebrows sharply.
âDo you have something important to communicate to him?â The secretary saw that she gave the impression of being rather anxious.
Abbott said nothing and returned to his own office.
His office was situated diagonally across from Matthewâs. It was spacious and aesthetically decorated. He walked over to his desk and touched it. Emma said he was a regular employee working for someone. She was right.
He did indeed work for someone, but he felt a great sense of accomplishment. Today he had achieved his status and position because of Matthew. Matthew trusted him and had even entrusted him with important responsibilities. If he didnât, how could he demonstrate his capabilities?
How could he be a person without a conscience?
It would never help Emma to frame Matthew.
She could tell that Matthew truly cared about Dolores.
How could he be so ungrateful and sow discord between the two of them?
Abbott looked down, pulled out his phone and dialed Matthewâs number.
Matthew was accompanying Dolores for a checkup. This month, she would have to go for regular checkups. At the moment, he was performing fetal heart rate monitoring. They could clearly hear the fetal heartbeat coming through the hum of the machine.
Matthew stood next to Dolores, gripping her hand tightly. He felt complicated and excited. From the sound of the heartbeat, he could tell that the baby was very energetic and full of vigor.
He even unknowingly tightened his grip on Doloresâ hand.
Dolores felt a little pain, and she was also sweaty, but she didnât remind Matthew of it. When she was pregnant with Andrew and Amanda, he hadnât had the chance to listen to her bellybeat. Now that he had the chance, it was natural for him to get excited. It was a normal reaction for a father.
Just then, the phone in Matthewâs pocket suddenly rang.
He pulled the phone out and saw that it was Abbott who had called him. He hung up the phone, leaned over to Dolores and whispered, âIâm going out to return a call.â
Dolores nodded, âJust go.â
