Was she about to give birth?
Matthew woke up instantly. He turned on the light by the head of the bed and looked at her in concern, âDoes your stomach hurt?â
Dolores frowned and looked like she was in pain. Matthew didnât even put on his slippers when he got out of bed. He came to her side and said, âIâll take you to the hospital.â
He bent down and tried to carry her. Dolores grabbed his hand and shook her head, âNo, itâs not my stomach.â
She couldnât move. Her body was tense, it was because she had a leg cramp.
âI have a leg cramp,â he said painfully.
Matthew lifted the blanket and examined her legs under the light. He rolled up her pajamas and could see her fair, slender legs before his eyes, âWhich one?â
âThe right one,â she frowned even more. It was as if his nerves were in a knot, he gripped the blanket tightly and said, âIt really hurts.â
Matthewâs face was tense, he tried to massage her cramped leg. He didnât really know what he was doing, he just wanted to relieve his pain.
After a while, the pain finally eased. Dolores looked up and said, âI feel better already. Letâs go to sleep.â
Matthew sat next to her at the head of the bed and put her legs on his thighs. He continued to massage them.
âLetâs go to the hospital tomorrow.â
Dolores said, âThis is normal. Something like this usually happens during the third trimester.â
Matthew pursed his lips and said nothing. He couldnât take away her pain. All he could do was make her as comfortable as possible.
Dolores snuggled her legs up against him, âDo you feel bad for me?â
Matthew patted her legs lightly, âNo.â
Dolores pushed her legs away and said coquettishly, âThen go away, I donât need your massages anymore.â
Matthew grabbed her ankle and said, âDonât move. Be good, Iâm going to massage you so you wonât feel pain.â
âBut donât feel bad for me, I donât want your massage.â Dolores arched her legs and tried to pull away, not letting him touch them.
Matthew laughed, âHow willful.â
Dolores pouted, âWell, I am willful. I command you to always take care of me.â
âOf course.â Matthew pinched her thighs playfully and Dolores returned the flirtation by saying, âOuch.â
Matthew asked, âWhere does it hurt?â Dolores pointed to her legs.
Matthew leaned toward her. Dolores realized he was about to kiss her and quickly pulled her legs away. She gently reprimanded him, âMatthew Nelson.â
âDonât be scared, I just want to kiss you.â Matthew stared at her in the dim light, he had a serious face, âIf we have a son, letâs send him to C-Town.â
Dolores was speechless.
She didnât understand what he was trying to say.
âWhat if the baby is a girl?â asked Dolores.
âThen Iâll have her by my side.â
Dolores sat up, she was a little agitated, âWhat do you mean, you donât want the child if itâs a boy? You hate baby boys?â
âWhy wouldnât I want my son?â Matthew moved closer and hugged her, âIâm thinking, if we have a son, he can have your last name. Since you havenât changed your last name either, we can continue your family lineage that way.â
Matthew and Dolores had already talked about this. Dolores understood a little of what he was trying to say.
But what did this have to do with the childâs last name and gender?
âWhy canât my daughter have my last name?â Dolores remembered that Matthew liked daughters better than sons.
She pouted, âNormally, people favor sons more than daughters-why is it the other way around?â Suddenly.
Doloresâ phone vibrated.
Matthew picked it up and saw a message from an unknown number.
âWho is it, is it Theresa?â Dolores took the phone from Matthew, âI texted her before I went to bed and she didnât answer.â Then she read the message.
Matthew didnât know what was going on. Before he could read the message, Dolores took the phone away from him.
At that moment, Amanda suddenly stirred. She couldnât feel the person next to her and wanted to open her eyes. Matthew reached over and grabbed her. He lightly patted her back, âIâm here.â
Amanda reached out and touched her father. Then she snuggled into his arms and continued to sleep.
Dolores looked at her phone and squinted.
The message read, [Your husband was wearing a light gray suit, white shirt and black tie today. A man in a suit sure is charming].
âWho is it?â Matthew looked up and asked quietly, seeing how engrossed Dolores was.
Dolores quickly deleted the message. She took it as a joke and said nonchalantly, âNo big deal, just spam.â
She went back to lying on her side and put her leg over Matthew. It was hard to fall asleep during the third trimester. If she lay on her back, her heart felt uncomfortable. She would only feel better if she lifted her leg and slept on her side, âIâm sleepy.â
Matthew put his hand on her leg and said, âGo ahead and sleep.â
Dolores closed her eyes and didnât pay much attention to the message. A lot of people noticed what Matthew wore on a daily basis, it wasnât unusual. She squirmed, trying to find a comfortable position and quickly fell asleep.
In the morning, when Matthew awoke, he noticed that Dolores and Amanda were still sound asleep. He moved as quietly as he could as he got out of bed, worried that he would wake them.
As he was about to go to the bathroom, his phone on the table vibrated. The last time Amanda was startled by the ringtone was because she was called in the middle of the night. After that night, she would put her phone on vibrate before she went to sleep.
She glanced at her phone and it was an unknown number. He hesitated briefly and then decided to go out and take the call.
He put the phone next to his ears as he walked downstairs with his slippers on.
âHello?â
âItâs me.â Boyce contacted Matthew first thing after getting a new phone.
âIâm fine, everythingâs fine. You donât have to worry about me. I just canât get back at the moment.â
Matthew walked over to a table and poured himself a glass of water, âYou got a new phone?â
âYes,â Boyce replied.
âIâll send you something later and you can decide if you want to come back.â Matthew picked up the glass and drank some water.
âWhat?â
Matthew said, âSee for yourself.â
Then he hung up and sent the information Abbott had found out to Boyce.
Boyce could decide what he wanted to do next.
Boyce sat down under a tree. He hung up the call and put the phone away. Shortly thereafter, he received an e-mail. He quickly clicked on it.
He frowned as he read the email, grimaced harder and harder.
He always had a good impression of Wendy. He didnât like her, but he didnât hate her.
He thought that since Officer Miller was a good person, the apple wouldnât fall too far from the tree.
He thought Wendy had a similar personality to her father.
But he never would have thought that sheâ¦
Officer Miller was an honest person, why would his daughter become such a selfish person and hurt someone for selfish reasons?
She was at fault, but she blamed it all on her ex-husband.
She made her ex-husband the public target and made herself the victim.
How could she do that!
He wouldnât believe this if the information was from someone else. But it was Matthewâs. Matthew probably took a very thorough look at this. Otherwise, Matthew wouldnât have told him this.
âWhat are you looking at?â Jasmine hugged his neck from behind. She leaned against him and rested her chin on his shoulder as she tried to glance at the message. Boyce quickly closed the email application.
Jasmine whispered, âWhatâs that, why are you so afraid Iâll read it?â
