Boyce was breathing heavily, âYou donât have to worry.
Before our marriage, I wonât do anything to hurt you.â
Even if they were in the same bed, he wouldnât touch her anywhere.
He also felt a kind of pressure in his heart. He always felt that Jasmine was too young, and that, if he did anything to her, it would make him a ârapistâ. He would feel guilty.
Jasmine did not continue to tease him. She felt that he was truly a rare jewel to be treasured. She got out of Boyceâs arms and sat down across from him to resume dinner. He picked up some dishes and set them on his plate, âWhatever you want to eat, Iâll fix it for you.â
Suddenly, Boyce felt like he was home again. As a long-time single man, the prospect of someone to take care of him was appealing, and it was a precious thing to him.
He shoveled the mashed potatoes Jasmine had put on his plate into his mouth.
After dinner, Jasmine began to put the silverware back in place, âIf you canât fall asleep, you should have it easy outside.â
Boyce shook his head as he followed her and watched her wash those dishes.
Jasmine looked at him, âWhatâs there to look at here?â.
g Ɐ ln Ï Î½ð® âsâ¤com hosts great fiction âI want to learn this. Then I can help you do it.â said Boyce with a solemn tone.
Jasmine simply laughed.
âMiss Burke, Miss Burke.â Kirk walked over with a watermelon in tow, âGrandpa wants me to give this to you.â He saw Boyce and added, âYou can eat together.â
Jasmine put down the dishes, washed her hands and picked up the watermelon. She placed it on the desk, âHelp me thank Grandpa.â
âMy grandfather says you are welcome. He has told me you are a good person, Miss Burke. You have given me many learning tools. This watermelon is nothing.â Kirk said as he smiled, and when he did, his bright white teeth formed a stark contrast to his tanned skin.
âIâm leaving now so I wonât disturb you.â After saying this, he left the house.
Jasmine looked at the watermelon on the table and a kind of loneliness seeped into her eyes. âIâll miss them.â
She was afraid that no one would come to take her place to teach those students once she was gone. Keith wasnât going to be here long, and because of the poor conditions of the place, not many would come to be teachers.
I feared for the future of those children. They were innocent, kind, and deserved to have a bright future. And the only way to achieve that future was education.
Boyce reached out and stroked her face. He could see what she was thinking as she announced, âLeave it all in my hands.â
Jasmine looked up at him and asked with wide eyes, âDo you have any solutions?â
Boyce let out a vague sound of approval.
âYouâre really great.â Jasmine stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a peck on the cheeks.
After that kiss, she quickly let go and continued washing the remaining dishes. She lowered her head and felt a subtle sweetness spread in her heart.
At the same time, Boyce remained pinned to the floor, as if still savoring the warmth of that fleeting kiss.
After she finished washing, Jasmine put the watermelon into a wooden bucket that was filled to the brim with water from the well.
âThe well water is cool. It can make the watermelon cooler, and we can eat it later.â
After saying that, he raised his head and gave her a look, âIâm going to take a bath.â
Boyce immediately replied, âIâll be outside.â
After saying that, he closed the door as he walked out of the room.
Jasmine didnât move an inch, and the corners of her lips turned up.
Boyce took a seat on a stone bench under the tree. There was a soothing breeze in the air, so he didnât feel stuffy.
He was thinking of a way to blurt this out to Wendy so as not to hurt her.
After all, he was the one who had taken back his words.
âCan I sit here?â
Boyce looked up to see Keith walking toward him. He approved, âSit down.â
Keith sat down at the other end of the bench.
He was contemplating the endless starry night sky when he asked, âWill you be with her?â
Boyce gave a vague answer in a low voice.
Keith was a little downcast, âHow I wish youâd never show up. Maybe sheâd take me in. Sheâs the first girl Iâve ever loved.â Boyce said nothing to that.
It was useless to debate about something so hypothetical.
Finally, he showed up, was able to look earnestly at himself and affirmed his feelings.
âWhat are you doing, will you be able to take good care of her in the future?â Keith suddenly felt anxious about Jasmineâs future life with this man.
Boyce was piqued with curiosity, âWhy are you interested in that?â
âYou said that since Iâm not working, I canât give her a good life. And you? Can you give her a good life?â Keith rebutted with a vehement tone.
Since he had been criticized before, he finally had a chance to have a word with Boyce now.
Boyce simply felt that this guy was a bit childish, âI canât promise you a life of luxury, but Iâm sure Iâm capable of maintaining it.â
âAre you trying to trick me? Your answer is too vague. You can support someone too, even if you both live in poverty. If you canât give her a quality life, what difference does it make between you and me? The reason you donât want to tell me about your work is because you are ashamed.â Keithâs tone became sharper as he rambled on.
He still had some frustration in his heart, so he was venting to Boyce.
Boyce just looked at him without any trace of emotion, and just as he was about to respond, the door opened and Jasmine appeared dressed in her pajamas. She had washed her hair, but had not yet dried it so those tresses glistened with moisture. She had overheard what Keith had said even though she had been in the house a moment ago.
He didnât like the fact that Boyce was being questioned here.
âHeâs the deputy director of the Public Safety Bureau, do you think his position is good enough?â Jasmineâs expression was very cold.
She respected Keith and saw him as a friend, but she couldnât stand him talking to Boyce that way.
Putting aside the fact that Boyce was someone distinguished, even if he was a nobody, she would not tolerate badmouthing him.
In her eyes, everything about Boyce was nothing short of amazing.
