âJasmine, your friend likes you, right?â said Keith.
Boyce was startled and curious at the same time as to why he had asked.
Jasmine was taken aback, âWhat nonsense are you talking?â
âHe borrowed my phone when I sent him the clothes. I think heâs called his family to tell them heâs okay, is he planning to stay here, andâ¦â He turned to Jasmine, âWhen I told him I liked you, he disapproved, if he really wants whatâs best for you, doesnât he want someone to take care of you?â
âMaybe he thinks weâre not right for each other, you think too much,â Jasmine said.
She got up wanting to walk away, but was stopped by Keith, âI meant it when I said I liked you.â
Jasmine went blank and speechless with this sudden confession.
âJasmine, you are an orphan, but I can be your family. There wonât be any pressure to be my family, no one will say anythingâ¦â
âPlease let it go, I have no intention of getting into a relationship now,â Jasmine refused.
âWe are about the same age and our family backgrounds match, please considerâ¦â
A sudden sound of breaking glass coming from the house interrupted them. Jasmine let go of Keith and ran toward the house. She saw Boyce standing in front of the desk with the broken glass on the floor.
She hurried over to check Boyceâs hand, âAre you hurt?â
Boyce pressed his lips together and watched Jasmine silently.
Jasmine looked up and saw that Boyce was looking at her with a complicated look. She realized he was grabbing her hand and immediately let go of it. âYou have injuries and Iâm afraid you hurt yourself againâ¦â
âYou said you liked me.â Boyce interrupted her.
Keith froze in the doorway.
Jasmine likes him?
Jasmine likes him?
The phrase kept repeating in his mind.
Of course, she seems so concerned to see him hurt, itâs not something a casual friend would do. She stayed to take care of him at the hospital, she really cares about him.
She turned and walked away.
âI was just kidding.â defended Jasmine.
She confessed knowing that they will never see each other again, but now that he was in front of her, she didnât dare to admit it.
âIf Iâm serious about it?â after hearing Keithâs question Does your friend like you?
Boyce questioned why he felt uncomfortable seeing another man next to Jasmine.
She said she could get married but he didnât want her to marry any other man.
Why didnât he want her to be with another man?
Maybe because he liked her, thatâs why he didnât want her to be with any other man or to marry any other man.
On the other hand, Armand was delighted to get a call from Boyce. He told Matthew first and intended to tell Officer Miller, so they would stop worrying.
As he prepared to knock on Officer Millerâs door, he heard Mrs. Miller say, âItâs been three days, is he still alive?â No one answered her.
âItâs a good thing Wendy didnât marry him, it would be a disaster if she had,â she continued.
âSheâs been divorced once and who would want to marry her if her husband died?â.
âWhat nonsense are you talking?â snapped Officer Miller.
âAm I wrong, can he still be alive after being gone so long?â Mrs. Miller defended herself, âItâs a good thing not many people know about Wendy and him. I guess they werenât meant to be together, he died, just like that.â
âStop talking nonsense! He died?â Officer Miller glared at his wife, infuriated, âGo home, donât give me any more trouble!â
âYou look at you, you want me to be your son-in-law, but you failed. A staff is more important than your daughter? Look at your angry face!â
âThatâs enough!â Wendy, who had been silent, shouted, âCut the crap, we have to keep looking, I want to see him, dead or alive.â
Armand quickly ducked out of sight when he heard they were about to leave.
He didnât like Wendy and now that he heard Mrs. Miller, he doubted even more. What kind of woman is she, he thought.
Boyce will suffer if she becomes his son-in-law.
He thought, Boyce said heâs fine now, so thereâs no need to rush back, if Wendy loves him, it could wait a couple of months.
He pulled out his phone and called the number he had just received.
In the house.
Boyce realized he had acted with some haste, âJasmine, Iâm much older than you, Iâ¦â.
âI donât care.â Jasmine looked up, her eyes red-rimmed.
Age wasnât an issue for her, her attitude was.
âYou know my family background, donât you care?â
âBoyce, thereâs a call for you.â Keith appeared in the doorway with the phone.
Jasmine turned her body and walked into the house, she didnât want anyone to see her like this.
Boyce picked up the phone and answered, âHello?â
âItâs me, Boyce, donât come back now,â Armand said.
âWhy?â Boyce couldnât understand. âHave you told Matthew that Declan is at large? Iâll be back tomorrow.â
Declan was released and could cause a lot of trouble. He had to go back and help Matthew when needed.
âMatthew has taken care of Declan. Listen to me, donât come back, for now, stay where you are for two months.â Wendy could wait two months if she really loved him.
âWhy?â Boyce had doubts.
âListen to me, I wonât hurt you,â Armand said.
Boyce was confused, he didnât know what he intended. But he felt better knowing that Declan had been taken care of. He handed the phone back to Keith, âThank you.â
âThatâs okay,â Keith replied weakly.
He wanted to walk away, but changed his mind and turned to Boyce, âYou said Iâm not right for Jasmine, do you think you are? Youâre much older and youâve been working, she was just a college girlâ¦â
âI fell in love with him first, whatâs the problem with his age?â Jasmine said.
