âHaha-â Amanda suddenly burst out laughing.
She was amused by Armandâs words, âWhy does Uncle Boyce look like such a big shot?â
Dolores drew her into his arms, asking her to be quiet.
Rubbing her hair, she said, âBe good.â Amanda nodded obediently.
Armand thought Boyce was very stupid: âYour boss wants his daughter to marry you?â.
Boyce nodded sincerely. He could feel it, and Officer Miller meant it.
Armand scoffed, âSince he wants his daughter to marry you, why did he marry her off to another man before?â
âShe didnât agree to marry me before.â
Hearing this, Armand disliked Wendy more. âShe didnât agree before, but now she has realized how good you are?â.
After a pause, she asked in a colder, harsher tone, âAre you a plan b?â
âStop criticizing.â Boyce took a sip of water.
âItâs not that Iâm criticizing your relationship. Itâs the truth. He didnât like you before. After he got divorced, he liked you. What kind of woman is that?â Armand scorned that kind of woman, âBoyce, weâre very close friends. Tell us. What do you think? Do you really like her? If you really like her that much, weâre not going to disagree.â
Boyce felt annoyed. He continued to fill his glass of water.
Dolores directed a look at Armand, âPlease leave it.â
âI donât want to meddle in his affairs, but Iâm afraid he would suffer a loss, be cheated and regret it.â Armand also swallowed water from his mouth, âYou must spend your whole life with your wife. You must choose for yourself. Then I will not stay for dinner tonight. Iâve already met her. Iâm still busy. I have to go now.â
After finishing his words, Armand pushed back his chair and gave Boyce a look, âBoyce, forgive me, but I donât like this woman at all, no matter what.â Then he left the box.
Dolores was quite disappointed, as Wendy did not like Boyce at first and went back to him after the divorce.
She agreed with Armand: Boyce was only a plan b.
Boyce was an outstanding man, but how was she going to do it?
âDolores, what do you think?â Boyce gave Dolores a confused look.
His mind was in knots now.
He knew that Wendy and he didnât fit together in every way, but he believed that the current state was his life now, as long as he could find someone to marry and live with.
âShe canât decide for your own love. The most important thing is what you yourself think,â Matthew replied on Doloresâs behalf.
Boyce was silent.
He had already convinced himself. However, after Armand criticized him, he could not keep calm at all.
He felt as if he had made the wrong decision.
On his way out of the box, Armand bumped into Wendy, who was returning from the ladiesâ room.
Seeing him, Wendy asked with a smile, âAre you leaving? We havenât had dinner yet.â
âI have something urgent to take care of.â He dodged her. After a few steps, he stopped, âExcuse me, Miss Miller.â
Wendy kept her smile and asked, âYes, Mr. Bernie?â
âMiss Miller, may I ask you a question please, what do you like about Boyce?â
Wendy answered without hesitation, âHeâs a good man. I like the way he is.â
âWhy didnât you like him before, but started liking him after the divorce?â asked Armand sternly.
Wendy could barely keep the smile on her face, âWhat do you mean?â
âWhat do I mean, Miss Miller, youâre a smart woman. You should know better.â Armand snorted, âOne should have integrity. You canât bully an honest man. Otherwise youâll get your karma.â
Wendy finally couldnât keep the smile at all. She couldnât even maintain grace. She said in a cold tone, âIs it just because Iâm divorced, that I canât have the right to be happy?â
âYou think being with Boyce is your happiness?â Armand felt ridiculous.
âYes. I feel happy when Iâm with him.â
Armand laughed, âSince you like him, why did you reject him at first? You feel happy, but what about him? Have you asked him if heâs happy? Miss Miller, do you only care about your own feelings, but ignore the feelings of others?â
âYouâ¦â
âI only feel sorry for my friend. Miss Miller, please donât worry.â After finishing his words, Armand walked away.
Wendy remained motionless, staring at Armandâs retreating figure, âYou should mind your own damn business.â
Armand heard her words, but ignored her. He stepped out of the restaurant lobby, took out the car key and pressed the unlock button. A car headlight shone. He walked over and opened the door.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. It made him so angry that Wendy liked Boyce at first, but after she got divorced and became a second wife, she went back to Boyce.
What a shameless woman she was!
He started the engine, but didnât pull away immediately. He looked up the route to C-town on his phone.
It was nighttime, so Armand didnât drive fast. He made up his mind so suddenly, he didnât take anything to see Theresa.
After four in the morning, he arrived in C-Town. He finally arrived at Theresaâs apartment at five oâclock.
Theresa was staying in the apartment where she and Dolores used to stay. Now she was alone. When five oâclock in the morning rolled around, she was still sleeping. She was awakened by the doorbell. Before sobering up, she went to open the door in her pajamas: âWho is it?â.
Opening the door, she found Armand standing in the doorway. His clothes were wrinkled. He had two large dark circles under his eyes. He mentioned that he was coming to get her today, but Theresa thought he was joking. After all, he had just been back for two days.
âWhy⦠Why did you really come?â
Armand smiled, âI missed you, thatâs why I came here.â
Theresa felt a little moved. She said, âPlease come inâ¦â
Armand hugged her. She gaped at him. He pressed his head on her shoulder and whispered, âI miss you so much.â
Theresa did not respond, remaining motionless. After a long moment, he said, âCome in. Donât stand in the doorway.â
Armand let her go.
Theresa closed the door and asked, âAre you going to take a nap?â
He had very dark circles under his eyes. She guessed he had stayed up all night.
Armand shook his head, âIâm not sleepy yet.â
Theresa poured him a glass of water and sat down on the couch. She asked him, âWhat does Boyceâs girlfriend do? How did you two meet?â
âWow, thatâs a good question.â Armand took a sip of water, âSheâs a divorced woman. A few years ago, she didnât like Boyce. Now sheâs divorced, so she went back to him. Boyce is still a virgin. That woman doesnât deserve him.â
Theresa propped her chin and looked at him, blinking. âWhat about you?â she asked.
âWhat am I?â Armand was confused.
âA virgin. Are you a virgin?â Theresa curved her lips into a smile, but her eyes gave a rather serious look. Armand felt a little creepy.
He almost poured the water in his mouth, feeling like heâd shot himself in the foot.
âTheresa, could we stop talking about things that have happened in the past, please?â Armand fawned over her by grabbing the sleeves of her pajama top, with an aggrieved look, âIf Iâd known Iâd meet you in my lifetime, Iâd keep my virginity. I promise you. I wouldnât lay a finger on any other woman in the future besides you.â
