âWendyâ¦â Boyce wanted to take the opportunity and make it clear to her.
Wendy wrapped her arms around his waist, âBoyce, I really like you. Please donât reject me, okay?â
Boyce pushed her arms away, âPlease stop.â
Wendy was unwilling to do so. Instead, she hugged him tighter, âDonât push me away. Please.â
As she spoke, her face pressed tightly to Boyceâs chest, âDo you know how much courage Iâve mustered to ask my father to tell you about me? If he turned me down, Iâd be too embarrassed. Do you dislike me because Iâm divorced?â
âNot really,â Boyce explained. It was just because he didnât feel anything for her. While Wendy was hugging him like that, he was only uncomfortable because she was a woman. He had no fluctuation in his heart.
If he liked a girl, he didnât care if she was divorced or not.
He didnât care much about that sort of thing. The girl didnât have to be a virgin.
âItâs getting late. You should go home now.â Boyce couldnât put his hands down at all. He didnât dare touch her.
âNo way. If you donât say yes, I wonât let go.â Wendy didnât much care now. She didnât want to pretend to be secretive. All she wanted was to grab this man. No matter what ways she needed to use, she had to get this man.
She had lost him once, so this time, she must get him tightly.
âWendy, donât you care if I like you or not?â asked Boyce directly.
He didnât know what to talk to Wendy about, so he could only tell her his current thoughts.
Wendy stiffened a little. It was a hard blow for her. Raising her head, she said, âI think love could develop.â Boyce inwardly doubted her words.
If so, he could no longer refuse her.
He said, âOkay, I agree.â
Wendy couldnât believe Boyce had said yes so soon, âReally?â.
Boyce nodded and said, âI never lie.â
Looking at his solemn face, Wendy thought he was quite handsome. She wondered why she hadnât seen him before.
If she had known that a man like Boyce was worth loving, she and Boyce would probably have children by now.
âIâll go home and tell my parents.â Wendy was overjoyed. Letting go, she said, âOkay, Iâm going now.â
Boyce nodded, âBe careful when you drive home. Good night.â
Wendy paused, raised her head, and looked at him, âArenât you asking me to stay?â
Boyce was speechless.
He didnât understand why he had to ask her to stay.
It was quite late and they had already had dinner.
Wendy said with a smile, âArenât you asking me to stay the night?â Boyce choked.
âIâm just kidding. You look very silly.â Wendy dropped her smile, âIâm leaving now. Good night.â
After that, she left her apartment.
Boyce stood motionless for a while before snapping back to reality. He walked her to the door.
âGo to bed soon. See you,â Wendy told him at the door.
Boyce nodded and closed the door.
As he was closing the door, he still felt like he was dreaming. After a long moment, he let out a sigh.
He told himself that he should settle for her; other women probably wouldnât be as suitable as she was. Besides, Officer Miller had asked him personally.
If he turned Officer Miller down, he would feel sorry for Officer Miler. After all, Officer Miller had taken care of him. Boyce felt a little embarrassed to turn him down.
He couldnât stay single forever anyway.
As he tried to convince himself, Boyce sat down on the couch. He gulped a glass of water and muttered to himself, âActually, Wendy Millerâs not bad. Weâve known each other for a long time. It shouldnât be bad if we lived together.â
Suddenly, he smiled. Patting his head, he realized he was still comforting himself.
At dawn the next day, Boyce was awakened by Armandâs call. As soon as the call connected, Armand called out, âBoyce, could you do me a favor, please?â
âWhat can I do for you?â Boyce woke up, still groggy.
âIâve made up with Theresa.â
Boyce could sense how delighted Armand was even over the phone. He snorted and said, âVery good. Congratulations.â
âWhy does your boss keep inviting you to his house? He likes you and wants you to be his son-in-law, right?â Armand was heading back to his apartment. Although he still had a few bruises at the corners of his eyes, he still had a bright smile on his face.
If Boyce could see him face to face now, he would probably ask Armand if his face still hurt.
âAre you calling to inform me of your good news?â
âNo. Theresa is going back to C-Town today. Iâm going to see her off. Can you go with me?â
âSheâs your girlfriend. Why should she go with you?â Boyce was confused.
âHereâs the thing. Last night, when I announced the good news, you werenât there. Today you must be in your presence. You are my best friend. You must be a witness.â
Boyce wondered why he had to witness it personally after hearing the news over the phone.
He wondered if Armand was in his right frame of mind.
Not to disappoint this poor man who had finally won back his girlfriendâs heart, Boyce said, âYou must come pick me up. I donât have a car now.â
âIâm already downstairs from your apartment. Hurry up and come down.â
âSo soon?â
âCut the crap. Hurry up,â Armand urged.
Boyce said, âTen minutes, please.â
After that, he hung up the phone, got up and got ready.
He went downstairs after ten minutes. As soon as he came out of the community, he saw Armandâs car standing on the shoulder. The car window was open. As Boyce approached, he could hear Armand humming a song.
Boyce opened the door and sat inside, âYou just made up, but sheâs leaving today. Arenât you afraid sheâd fall in love with another man?â
âNo, she wouldnât. If she did, she would have fallen in love with another man a long time ago,â Armand said with extreme assurance.
Boyce shot him a look, âLook at you!â.
âHeh⦠Iâm so happy!â Armand couldnât hide his good vibes in Boyceâs presence.
Boyce laughed, âCâmon. Be a man!â
Armand dropped his smile and said solemnly to Boyce, âTheresa has some health problem. In the future, weâre not going to have our own children. Donât talk to her about children. Iâm afraid she would be very sensitive about it.â
He knew Theresa was unwilling to face the fact because she didnât want to talk to him about it. Therefore, he supposed Theresa must be quite sensitive, fearing that she would be upset to hear about children.
âHow so?â Boyce frowned.
Armand reassured himself. After a long moment, he answered hoarsely, âIt was because of her miscarriage last time.â
Boyce patted him on the shoulder, silently comforting him.
âDonât show your care for her particularly or your compassion. As long as you donât mention the children, everything will be all right,â Armand said.
Boyce understood.
When they arrived, they saw Dolores and Matthew talking to Oscar. Theresa was playing with Amanda.
In the morning, Dolores and Matthew got up to see Theresa and Oscar off.
Amanda insisted on coming, so they drove her to the airport as well. âGood morning, Uncle Armand, Uncle Boyce,â Amanda noticed them first and greeted them.
Theresa raised her head and saw them. Looking at Boyce, she said with a smile, âWhy are you here too?â.
Boyce smiled, âArmand insisted on asking me to see you off. He said I was the only one absent last night, so I must make it up to him. By the way, congratulations!â
Theresa lowered her head, âThanks. Itâs no big deal.â
âWeâve made up. Isnât it worth celebrating?â Armand sat down next to her, putting his arm over her shoulder, âYou promised me. You canât go back on your word.â
Boyce was very level-headed. Lifting Amanda up, he said, âAmanda, letâs go. Leave them alone.
