Dolores pressed the answer button, âHello.â
On the other end a female voice soon hung up.
Dolores glanced at the phone in bewilderment.
Matthew finished washing and looked at her, âWho was that?â.
Dolores shook her head, âI donât know, she hung up right after she answered.â
Matthew didnât care, âWrong number maybe.â
Dolores wasnât sure but it didnât sound like it, it sounded like he hung up after hearing her voice. But he didnât think much of it.
âBreakfast is ready, come down when youâre ready.â Dolores put the phone down on the table and walked out.
Amanda stood in the doorway in her pajamas and messy hair, gave Dolores a look and asked, âMommy, I heard Daddyâs voice, is Daddy back?â
Dolores said, âGo wash and change, then Iâll tell youâ¦â.
âDaddy!â
She saw Matthew come out of the washroom while Dolores was still talking. She ran to him at once, hugged his leg and looked up, âDad, when did you get back?â
Matthew bent down to carry her, âLetâs go see if youâve gained weight.â
âHave I?â Amanda wrapped her arms around his neck.
âYes.â
She liked to eat and sleep. She had gained weight, but she wasnât fat, just a little heavier and taller than before.
She looked like an elementary school girl now.
Amanda looked at him, âWhen did you get back?â.
âLast night,â Matthew replied, âLet me wash you.â
âSure,â Amanda said, laughing.
She was glad Daddy washed her.
When Matthew walked past Dolores with Amanda in his arms, she said delightedly, âMommy, Daddyâs going to wash me.â
Dolores shook her head and gave him a light pat on the butt, âWhat a lazy bug.â Super lazy bug.
Amanda wasnât upset, she was laughing.
âIâll go down first,â Dolores said to Matthew.
He nodded and led Amanda to the sink.
Dolores directed Lucy to set the table for breakfast, everyone was awake and it was breakfast time.
As they all sat down one after the other at the dining room table, ready for breakfast, Matthew came down the stairs holding his daughterâs hand.
âWhen are you back, Dad?â asked Andrew.
It was a question they all wanted to ask.
âLast night,â Matthew said as he set Amanda down in the chair.
He sat down next to Amanda and briefly greeted Jayden and Kevin. âI wasnât home for a few days due to some problems.â
They didnât ask further as they knew they couldnât help much so not asking was wiser.
Jayden trusted Matthew completely, he believed he took each step carefully and wouldnât act impulsively.
âLet me know if you need anything from me.â Although Jayden had retired, he still had a wide network of contacts.
Their relationship wasnât close because of Victoria and she had never gone to him no matter what.
Now that the truth had been revealed, he hoped their relationship would improve.
Matthew said yes.
âLet your father and I handle the wedding preparations if you are busy,â Kevin said knowing that he was busy while the wedding preparation needed someone to do the preparations.
Matthew agreed to let Kevin handle everything, he only had one request that the wedding had to be grand.
He wanted to announce to the world that he was married to Dolores.
âDonât worry,â Kevin continued, âconsider it done.â
Matthew went upstairs to change after breakfast while Dolores helped him with his tie. âDonât you think itâs a bit much?â
âWhat?â he looked at her.
âThe wedding, that jewelry is too flashyâ¦â.
âDid they bring it here?â he asked.
Dolores nodded.
âNo jewelry matches you, to me you are the brightest,â he said as he took her hand.
Dolores smiled. All women liked to hear sweet words from their partners, she was no different. âSince when did you become so smarmy, did you do something bad behind my back?â She said flirtatiously.
Is it wrong to be sweet to her?
âMust I prove my love three times a day then?â
Dolores stopped and put the tie around his neck, âYou do it.â
Matthew hugged her, âThen come to me three times a day.â
Dolores glared at him, âIâm no match for you, youâre much stronger.â
âIâll let you win,â Matthew whispered in her ear.
He made her itch and struggle slightly, âCut the crap.â
âDo it for me then.â
Dolores said yes and continued to do his tie, âBe careful,â she couldnât contain herself and reminded him.
Even the tamest dog bites out of desperation, let alone humans. They might seek revenge regardless if they found out he was the mastermind.
Matthew nodded.
Dolores sent him out the door after finishing his tie, âIâll be waiting at home, come back soon.â
Matthew smiled, âI donât feel like going anymore.â
He wanted to stay home with her, but he had to figure this out to provide them with a safe and stable home.
âGoodbye.â
Dolores watched him as he left.
Although Boyce had nothing to do with it, she knew it was Matthew, so she called him yesterday to make an appointment for today.
The meeting was arranged in the office.
Boyce and Armand were already waiting when Matthew arrived.
Armand was excited, âWhat good news, who would have guessed that Old Bailey committed so many crimes in his youth?â
He was ecstatic to see the news that Declan had been arrested by the police, he deserved it.
Boyce tapped him lightly with his elbow, âQuiet.â
Armand gave him a look, âI didnât say anything.â
âYou can go on then.â Boyce took a sip of his water.
He set the glass down and stood up when he saw Matthew approach, but Matthew motioned for him to remain seated.
âWhy didnât you say anything to me? I could have helped you,â Boyce said.
Armand continued, âYeah, donât you trust us enough?â Matthew ignored him.
His purpose in meeting with Boyce today was to discuss the Baileysâ downfall and Boyceâs opportunity, since the Baileyâs had no time or energy to go against Boyce now.
Everyone who had been close to or dependent on the Baileyâs would do their best to stay as far away as possible now.
This case had a big impact and was an important matter, so everyone tended not to get involved.
Boyce knew Matthewâs intention: âIâll handle this,â he said.
He had his network of contacts after a long time in his field, before no one dared help because Old Lord Bailey was powerful, but now things were different.
