Matthew Nelson could probably guess what he did. His eyes grew colder as he stared at Declan Bailey, âReally?â
Your next adventure is at g al n ovels . con âStill not a good example, John Kinney, Boyce Shawn?â Declan laughed derisively, âYou still have a chance right now. All you have to do is beg me. Beg me. Then maybe Iâll show some mercy and forgive him, how about that?â
He became more and more brazen. He also laughed wildly, âJust say âI was wrong, Mr. Bailey. I was too blind to go against you. Please have mercy.â Then maybe Iâd let Boyce go.â
Matthew narrowed his eyes and stared at him. Extreme anger welled up in his eyes. However, it was quickly hidden in his poker face, âIâm afraid Iâm going to disappoint you, Mr. Bailey.â
Declan suddenly straightened up, âYou still donât see whatâs going on?â.
âMr. Bailey, youâve taught very well. I just havenât learned it yet. Maybe you can teach me again?â Matthew was very quiet. He paid no attention to their teasing at all.
Declan was furious, âWhy do you have to be so arrogant, Matthew, isnât it just that youâre richer than me? But when it comes to connections and power, youâre no better than me.â
Matthew chuckled, âHow do you know Iâm no better than you?â
There was always a kind of secret, deceptive calculation in his laugh. It made Declanâs skin crawl.
However, after careful thought, the most competent person he had was Boyce. He would never talk to the Harris Family. Besides, how was Jeffery Harris going to help him when his own reputation was already broken?
And what use could this Armand Bernie be to him?
His father and the husbands of his many sisters were not all ordinary people. He had contacts everywhere, so it would be easy for him to do whatever he wanted.
With that thought, Declan immediately gained confidence.
âDonât try to fool me!â
Matthew was still calm, âDo you know what the difference between us is?â
Declan asked, âWhat?â
âYou have connections and many ways, but you forgot that itâs easier to deal with those in plain sight, just like how you framed Boyce. Yet you donât know the connections I have and how powerful I am.â
Declan felt nervous about Matthewâs strategic confidence, âWhat, what do you mean?â
There was a saying that it would be easy to dodge a spear in the open, but it would be difficult to avoid a hidden arrow. It was obvious that what Matthew was saying meant that he had a power that no one else knew about.
âMr. Bailey, donât you have any comprehensive skills?â He said mockingly.
Declan had always been an impatient person and never a poised man. So he felt provoked by a few words from Matthew.
âYou just meant you have connections,â Declan didnât believe him, but he didnât entirely doubt him.
He was very contradictory. He didnât know if what he was saying was real or just lying to him.
âEven if you have contacts, you wonât necessarily be able to win against me,â Declan wasnât as sure as before, but he was still threatening him as always, âletâs wait and see.â
He stormed out just as Armand was bringing Boyce in, so they bumped into each other at the door.
âHey, isnât this Mr. Bailey?â Armand looked him up and down and sneered, âWhatâs with the look of circumstance, did your father die?â
Declan grabbed Armand by the collar and said mercilessly, âDo you want to die?â
Armand wasnât afraid at all. He smiled and said, âWhat would you do to me if I wanted to die? Take a good look at where this place is.â
Declan came alone. If he really fought with Armand, he would have no advantage. So, even though he felt extremely angry inside, he let himself go.
âI wonât let you get away with this!â
Armand brushed the non-existent dust off his body, âIâll wait for you. Go ahead.â
They stared at each other. If looks could be turned into weapons, then they were definitely killing each other right now.
âBoyce,â Declan sneered and strode off at a brisk pace.
Armand gaped-why had he suddenly called Boyceâs name?
Was his brain all scrambled?
âWhy did he call you?â Armand turned his head to Boyce and asked.
Boyce said, âHeâs crazy. Donât listen to him.â
âReally?â Armand didnât doubt him, but it seemed to him that what Declan said was cryptic. It didnât sound like heâd phrased it casually.
Boyce didnât argue with him. He walked into the office and asked as he looked at Matthew, âWhat are you doing here?â
Matthew came out of his office and asked in a somber voice, âWhy didnât you tell me something happened to you?â
Boyce sat down on the couch and said, âArenât you preparing for your wedding? I donât want to add to your troubles.â
Matthew was a little annoyed. He snorted coldly, âWhat are you planning to do?â
Could this kind of affair be kept a secret? What should they do if it became an irreversible consequence?
Did he still want his future?
âWhat are you talking about?â Armand approached and asked as he looked at Boyce, âWhat happened to you?â
Boyce lowered his head and fell silent.
Matthew tugged at his shirt collar, âYou still donât plan to say it?â
âOfficer Miller called me at the police station early this morning. As soon as I got to the police station I saw the people from the investigation bureau. They said I was taking bribes, so Iâm suspended right now and under investigation,â Boyce lowered his head as he spoke.
âAsshole!â Armand cursed out loud, âThis scumbag Declan is really a fucking scoundrel.â
Matthew had a guess in his mind. He knew he was using this kind of fatal sin to frame Boyce, but he was still uneasy.
After all, being investigated for bribery would affect his future as a public servant.
Just like what Declan said, if he pulled a trick inside and his bribery came true, then Boyce would be finished.
âWhat should we do now?â asked Armand anxiously. This was related to Boyceâs future. If it wasnât handled properly, his reputation would be ruined.
Matthew feared that Declan would be out to make trouble when he decided to have a wedding. So he had already made preparations for it.
Declan was merely relying on Roger Bailey. His brothers-in-law only gave Declan a little respect for Roger.
If Roger fell, what else would Declan have left?
In the old wars, it was known that you had to take down the leader first to destroy the thieves. So why keep bothering Declan?
âJust go home. Iâll take care of this matter,â Matthew stood up and prepared to leave as he pulled his phone off the table.
âDo you have a plan yet?â Armand gave him a dubious look.
Boyce was also very surprised.
They both gave him a look.
However, Matthew didnât explain what he was going to do. Contemplating their surprised looks, he raised an eyebrow and asked, âWhy, donât you believe me?â
Armand nodded, then hastily shook his head, âOf course, we believe you, but do you have any connections you can use?â
After all, he was a businessman and not a government official, how was he going to deal with Declan?
Matthew smiled and gave an answer, âI donât have any connections, but my wife does.â
Oscar Adamsâ phone number was saved in Matthewâs phone when Dolores Flores received a call from Oscar. She told him to look for Oscar if there were issues he couldnât show up for.
In reality, Dolores didnât know what kind of person her father was either.
However, she did not want to know either.
Like what Jolene Harris said in the letter, it was enough for her to know that he was a good man.
Armand and Boyce glanced at each other. They seemed to have read the answer in each otherâs eyes.
They knew this was not just about Dolores, but about the remaining power of their parentsâ generation.
Armand felt a little relieved after learning that Matthew already had a counter plan. However, his hatred for everything Declan had done had reached its peak.
He just wanted to curse Declan every time he thought of him.
