In Tianaâs worldview, all parents should be like her parents. They should teach their children the hows and whys, teaching them to be principled people.
Mrs. Meyer sighed, not knowing how to explain this to her daughter. Not every parent in the world was as honest and caring as her father. Not all parents could give their children all the love and protection they needed.
Because they had Tiana, they didnât want a second child. Sometimes, she would ask her husband if he regretted the decision. Alan would always reply, âWe already have a beautiful baby girl.â
And she had nothing to say.
For example, her father valued boys and gave much less importance to women. He had six daughters before he had a son. And he treated them very differently as if his son was his only child.
She and her sisters were sent home to relatives when they were small. Even when they grew up, their father did not pay much attention to them. He put all his heart into his son.
âYou, once we get Charles back, should go with him to White City and never come back.â The Lady wasnât asking too much of her daughter, she just wanted her daughter to be safe and sound. She did not wish for her to accomplish anything great.
Tiana was her only child, she and her husband couldnât leave her too much money when they passed away, but it would be enough for her to lead a carefree life.
Mrs. Meyer also worked, although she had recently retired. She received a pension every month and was being educated. If Charles and his daughter returned to White City, she could still look for another job.

âMadame, Mademoiselle, we have arrived.â The driver parked in front of the entrance to the villa. They turned around and said to the mother and daughter.
Madame Meyer nodded, âGo knock on the door.â
The driver turned off the car engine, got out of the car and went to knock on the door.
Soon the door opened. The servant asked for his identity and the driver told him who Mrs. Meyer was. The servant then relayed the message to Declan.
Declan knew that Mrs. Meyer was here. He looked at Charles and laughed, âYour mother-in-law worries about you.â
Charles said nothing. Mrs. Meyer and Alan treated him very well, considered him family.
He felt sorry for Mrs. Meyer. Because of this incident, Declan was even more rude to her.
Declan had his hands in his pockets as he slowly walked out. Mrs. Meyer told her daughter to stay in the car and walked out alone.
âWhereâs John?â Declan asked about John as soon as he saw Mrs. Meyer. He didnât even bother to engage his sister in small talk.
âWhereâs Charles?â asked Mrs. Meyer in turn, seeing that Declan was alone.
Declan chuckled, âHey, but seriously â isnât there any other man in the world?
Why did you let Tiana marry a cripple?â.
Mrs. Meyerâs face turned grim, âThatâs none of your business.â
âWhy are you angry? I only care about you and Tiana.â Declan didnât even know heâd said the wrong thing. He just thought Tiana could marry a normal man.
âYou didnât grow up in the Bailey Family, but youâre still part of the family. It would be easy to find a normal man for Tiana. I donât understand, what good is crippled?â
âNone of your business, please donât worry, where is Charles?â They chose Charles because he was honest with their daughter, and their daughter also liked him a lot.
As long as Tiana liked him and he was nice to her, nothing else mattered. As for his body, it was only crippled. If it wasnât, in Mrs. Meyerâs eyes it would be perfect.
Mrs. Meyer liked her son-in-law more and more as time went on. She thought he was the perfect match for her daughter.
Tiana listened to their conversation from inside the car. She clenched her hands in anger. She hated it when others called Charles a cripple.
Mrs. Meyer didnât want to waste any more time with Declan, âJohn is here, put Charles on.â
Declan proceeded to open the door. At the same time, John was getting ready to get out of the car. The car door opened the moment he touched the car lock. It was too sudden and he was not expecting it. He was injured and his reaction was slower. Therefore, he fell out of the car when the car door was open and landed right next to Declanâs foot.
âMr. Bailey, you have to get even for me.â John grabbed Declanâs pants as if it were his life buoy.
Declan frowned, he almost didnât recognize John. Armand paid no attention to where he was punching, Johnâs face was swollen all over, âWhat happened to you?â
âI donât know. Suddenly, I was in the hands of Matthew and company. Theyâre not humanâ¦â He shuddered in fear as he remembered how they beat him. He was still in lingering fear, âIâm lucky Iâm still alive, I almost diedâ¦â John began to cry.
Declanâs face twisted, he kicked John and yelled, âYouâre a man, stop crying!â.
John quickly shut up and didnât dare speak anymore.
Declan was angry that John was captured by Matthew. He told Charles that Matthew couldnât find John. and he was wrong!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he felt. It was all Johnâs fault for being useless.
âYouâre saying the injuries to your body were Matthewâs fault?â said Declan coldly.
John nodded, he said ignoring the pain he felt, âThey did it on purpose, they wanted to give you a warning.â
John wasnât so useless. He knew just what to say to get Declan to take his anger out on Matthew and not him.
âWhat?â Declan was furious.
John managed to infuriate Declan. He hated being scorned, he hated being challenged.
He never lost, how could he stand this?
âMatthew said you canât win against him and one day you will die at his hands.â John continued to goad Declan, hoping to get his revenge through him.
âHmph, great, great.â Declanâs face turned green, âIâll show you who will die by whose hands!â.
John lowered his head, his eyes filled with vengeance.
He had to get revenge! For all he had suffered!
âCharles!â Tiana got out of the car excitedly when she saw Charles come out of the house. She ran to him.
âAre you okay?â Tiana checked his body, she feared he had hurt himself.
âIâm fine, donât worry.â Charles grabbed her hand, âDid you get scared?â
Tiana nodded her head sincerely, âOf course. I was so scared I couldnât sleep, I was so worried you would get hurt.â
Charles stroked her face, âItâs my fault. I made you worry. I promise there wonât be a next time.â
Tina said, âLet me put you in the car. Letâs goâ.
âYou should get in the car with the mother-in-law first. I have something to tell Declan.â
Tiana didnât understand what else there was to talk about with this type of person.
Charles tapped her hand, âListen to me.â
Tiana was obedient, grabbed Mrs. Meyerâs arm and said, âLetâs go wait for him in the car.â
Mrs. Meyer called to Charles, âLetâs leave him.â
She no longer wanted anything to do with Declan, but she didnât want to make him her enemy.
âI know, but Tom is still in his hands. Mom, you donât have to worry about this, Iâll talk to him,â Charles said calmly.
Tom was always with him. Since Charles was crippled, Tom was always by his side, following him everywhere.
Declan caught them both and took Tom somewhere else.
Mrs. Meyer became even more angry with Declan. Not only did he capture her son-in-law, but he also captured the people around him. I had no respect for him at all.
He had a cold expression on his face. She got in the car with her daughter and didnât want to talk to Declan anymore.
She was very disappointed in her brother.
Charles looked at John, who was still on the ground, âDid you get hit?â
âAre you stupid, how else would I have that much blood in my body?â Declan thought Charles was an idiot, asking the obvious.
He didnât know Charles was leading them into a trap.
Charles laughed, âWell, he has blood on his body, but Iâm not sure he was beaten. If it was a simple beating, it wouldnât be a big deal. I was just worried heâd suffer for nothing.â
âWhat do you mean?â John sensed something was wrong.
âWhy are you so nervous? I was just worried you wouldnât put up with the torture and blurt out something about Mr. Baileyâ¦â
âDonât frame me.â John snapped. He was being interrogated by Boyce last night, he had to confess or else he was lost.
He didnât know much about Declan, but he told Boyce everything he knew so he could go on living.
Declan narrowed his eyes, âYouâve been interrogated?â.
John would never admit it, he denied, âNo.â
Declan gave John a distrustful look, âReally?â
Charles successfully planted a seed of suspicion in Declanâs heart.
