Before Mrs. Meyer could respond, Tiana said angrily, âSheâs a bad person.â
Mrs. Meyer lightly smacked her daughter, âHush, donât say that now. We have to save Charles first.â
How did Tiana know that John was not a good person? Well, to be honest, her brother wasnât a good person, so the people working under him wouldnât be either.
Anyone with an ounce of conscience wouldnât work with Declan.
Everyone knew that the Club erected in the middle of the road belonged to Declan. As Boyce said, the Bailey Family was too powerful and influential. Therefore, no one dared to tangle with Declan.
Even if they didnât like what he did, no one said anything.
She and her siblings were raised separately, didnât grow up together, and werenât too close to each other. They got together from time to time, but they werenât as close as normal siblings.
They were only related by blood.
I didnât know if Declan was in contact with his other sisters, but after this incident, I knew that Declan didnât care about the emotional attachment between family members. He didnât care about her and, therefore, she would do the same.
He grabbed his daughterâs hand and said, âDonât worry, Iâll stop seeing them when we rescue Charles.â Tiana nodded.
They climbed back into the car. John sat in the third row on the right side of the car and didnât dare make any unnecessary moves. He knew they didnât like him and so he tried to conceal his presence as much as possible.
Mrs. Meyer called Declan: âI found him, where are we meeting?â
Declan held the phone in his hand as he smiled looking at Charles, who sat across from him, and smiled, âIâm at the villa on Second Ring Road. Come here.â
She hung up and sat on the couch, she laughed, âHey, you donât know where John is hiding, but your mother-in-law manages to find him in half a day. Is she that good or are you lying?â.
Charles remained emotionless. He guessed that Mrs. Meyer had tricked Tiana into telling him the truth, otherwise they wouldnât have found John.
He sincerely wanted to help Dolores and never thought of asking her for anything in return. Now that Mrs. Meyer was coming to her, she wondered if that would get her into trouble.
She was in a bad situation now, but instead she was worried about Dolores. She feared it would bring her trouble and she feared that Mrs. Meyer would discover the truth.
âTell me, why did you hide John?â Declan didnât know the relationship between Charles, Dolores, Matthew and the others.
He only knew that Charles was his sisterâs son-in-law and had a good reputation in White City. Nothing more, nothing less.
Charles was fairly well known in White City, but he was nobody in B-town! So Declan didnât give him any importance and captured him without thinking about it.
âI tell you I didnât hide him. He got lost on his own, I didnât do anything.â Charles lied without batting an eye. The expression on his face remained the same as if he were telling the truth.
Declan scoffed, âYouâre telling me he got out of the car and ran?â
âMaybe.â
âBullshit, you think heâs crazy, why would he run knowing someone was chasing him?â
Charles was quiet, he said in the same tone of voice, âPossibly, maybe he went crazy.â
Declan became angry and held the glass tightly in his hand, almost shattering it. He glared at Charles and said after a long pause, âDonât try to get smart with me. Your mother-in-law wonât be long. John will know best what he did.â
Charles kept his expression calm, âEven if I said it was me who threw him out, I wouldnât have any proof. Come to think of it, even if I did say it, it wouldnât be 100% the truth.â
âStop being smart!â Declan was no longer willing to talk to Charles.
Charles had a sharp tongue and was good at reasoning with him.
âIâll see this through!â Declan was angry.
âGo ahead, Mr. Bailey. But you really donât care about your sister, kidnapping me like this.â
âI told her to help me look for John, thatâs respect enough. Not to mention she didnât help in the end and even lost John. If Matthew had John, heâd never let her go!â
Declan was spoiled growing up. Old Mr. Bailey didnât have Declan until he was quite a bit older, so he spoiled him a lot when he was young. Mr. Bailey gave Declan everything he wanted and because of that, he was so arrogant today. He didnât know how to appreciate or care about others.
For him, he respected others enough by asking them to help him.
Charles chuckled, âWant to bet?â
âBet on what?â Declan looked at him.
Charles said slowly, âBet on who will win in the end. You or Matthew.â
âOf course itâll be me,â Declan said confidently, âHe couldnât do anything last time, and this time too. He still hasnât been able to find John, who else is backing him? Boyce is just a deputy director who doesnât have much power. The other one is a lawyer. Heâs useless, the only good thing he has is his money. But Iâm different. My sisters, their husbands are powerful people. My father is also a very influential person, have you ever seen that club in the middle of the street? No matter how strict the authorities are, I can still run my business. No one dares to stop my business or start an investigation.â
Charles listened patiently, then smiled nonchalantly, âMy bet is on Matthew.â
Declan gaped.
âWhat did you say?â he thought he misheard him.
âWhat does Matthew have, why did you bet on him, do you know who has the most power in B-Town?â
âDoes power matter?â replied Charles.
Declan burst out laughing and leaned back on the couch recklessly. He thought Charles was an idiot, âWhat else matters if it isnât power? Do you think weâll get into a fist fight?â
Charles smiled without saying anything. Declan had the upper hand with the powerful people backing him, but he wasnât too smart. He was too arrogant and didnât know how to deal with people.
He only knew how to use people and didnât care about the people around him.
He was trying everything not to turn John in because he didnât want the people in his charge to be disappointed in him. He didnât care about Mrs. Meyer at all, because he thought she was his sister. In his mind, she would help him no matter what and he didnât need to protect her or do anything in return.
But he was wrong. Humans were simple. If you werenât nice to the other person, why would they be nice to you?
Just to be snubbed despite showing good intentions?
Everyone had a heart. If you were sincere with others, others would also be kind to you. But this never crossed Declanâs mind.
More precisely, he was unconcerned about his family members. He knew how to win over his subordinates, but he didnât do the same with his family. He was too used to thinking that his family would help him without asking for anything in return, that he didnât need to protect them. And this mentality was probably formed because of the environment he grew up in.
He was too spoiled.
Mrs. Meyer knew that Declan had a villa on the Second Ring Road. Last time, he went there to celebrate Mr. Baileyâs birthday. After the banquet at his former residence, she and her brothers went to that villa to dine with Old Mr. Bailey.
She told the driver the address and he headed in that direction.
On the way, Tiana said nothing. Mrs. Meyer didnât know what she was thinking, she thought Tiana was worried about Charles and hence she will try to comfort her, âDonât worry, Charles will come home safe and sound as long as we return John to Declan.â
Tiana didnât answer, she was thinking about what Dolores had said. That man had hurt someone else and should be punished, but instead they were going to let him go free. Tiana thought it was unfair.
âMom, Dad always says that kindness will make one beautiful, and the person will be loved. So why are there still bad people, donât their parents tell them itâs important to be kind?â
