Armand quickly hid behind Dolores as he noticed Boyce’s fury, “I’m just telling the truth, but you deny it, I’m sure Jasmine likes you, otherwise she wouldn’t care so much when you got hurt. Age is not a problem at all, look at Dolores and Matthew, there is a difference of eight years, but they are doing fine.”

Dolores turned to Armand, “You’re talking about Boyce, why bring us in?”. She didn’t like talk of the past.

Indeed, she was young at the time, at eighteen she should be in college, but she had already married.

Boyce seized the opportunity, “He’s full of shit, isn’t he? It never changes.”

Armand glared at Boyce, “Don’t take this opportunity to attack me, I may not be able to physically fight you, but I can get help.”

Dolores patted Armand on the shoulder, “Keep your voice down, Theresa might hear you.”

‘If Armand knew what Theresa said today, I wonder if he could still act so childish.’ thought Dolores.

Theresa’s name worked like a charm on Armand, he shut up immediately.

“Ha, is there something you’re afraid of?” scoffed Boyce.

“Get lost!” Armand threw himself on the couch without another word.

Dolores held up two bottles of liquor and told them, “Dinner is ready, let’s eat.”

She put the liquors on the table and went to Theresa’s room to help her bathe and dress. Then he held her as he tiptoed to the living room, avoiding hurting her wound on the way. Armand got up to help, but stopped when he noticed that Theresa wasn’t even looking at him.

Dolores helped her to the dining room table, Andrew immediately pulled out a chair, “Be careful, Renee.”

Theresa patted his head, smiling, “You’ll be very famous among the girls in the future.”

Andrew waved and said, “I only need one, too many women will cause too much trouble.”

His words made everyone laugh. Dolores pinched his cheek, “Stop talking nonsense.”

“It’s true,” Andrew defended himself with a growl, “You and Dad argue once every other day, don’t you?”.

“What did you say?” his voice was too low, Dolores missed it.

Andrew quickly shook it off, “I said I understand, there will be no more nonsense.”

Coral brought the last plate to the table as Dolores settled them, “Let’s eat.”

Boyce and Armand walked over together.

“What a feast.” The whole table was full of appetizing food, like a hotel feast.

Boyce smiled, “Thank you, Dolores.”

When he finished setting the silverware, she looked up and said, “It’s to celebrate your promotion, it’s worth it.”

Boyce was a little embarrassed, it wasn’t like he had been promoted to boss, just assistant.

Matthew came downstairs when everyone was already seated, he sat down in the main seat. Dolores opened the liquor and said, “The first glass should be for Boyce.”

Boyce got up and took the bottle from Dolores, “Let me do it.” He couldn’t let her pour him the drink.

Dolores didn’t insist and sat down. “Honestly Boyce, who is Jasmine?” she asked smiling.

She didn’t get to ask now, but she was still curious about Jasmine.

Boyce was mature and stable, it was rare for him to associate with a woman, he didn’t have many female friends.

Boyce froze, “Hasn’t this topic already passed?”.

Armand put his glass in front of Boyce indicating for him to fill it, “Do you want me to bring her over here?”

“Can you shut up?” Boyce gave him a fierce look, “Can’t you shut up for a while? Don’t you realize Theresa is right in front of you?” Armand was speechless as Andrew and Amanda laughed.

It was amusing to watch Armand be speechless.

Boyce filled Matthew’s glass as well before setting the bottle down and explaining to Dolores, “I want to have a family too and I’m not young anymore, but Jasmine is really a no no, she’s too young for me.”

“Boyce is a reliable man, I think he could definitely find his perfect match,” Theresa said.

“I wish,” Boyce smiled.

“I’m just stating the fact, gosh, I missed the opportunity, otherwise I’d be happy to be your girlfriend.” He put on a rueful face and ignored the change of mood at the table, perhaps he knew it, but chose to ignore it.

Theresa continued, “Someone told me that marriage is like a second birth for a woman, the first choice is wrong and the second must be wise. If she marries a scum, she will suffer for life. This is very true, but someone like Boyce could never be a slag.”

Boyce automatically glanced at Armand.

Armand stared at Theresa. ‘How could she utter words that would pierce his heart no matter the place and situation?’

Boyce wanted to advise Theresa, but he couldn’t find words.

Armand was responsible for what was happening to Theresa, so he had no ground to defend him. He could only come out of this clean, “Say what you want, but please leave me out of this misunderstanding, one should never touch a friend’s partner, I am well aware of that.”

Theresa smiled, “Look at your expression of fear, I know my condition.”

Boyce immediately explained, “I didn’t mean that…”

He didn’t mean to discriminate and he didn’t say it because he thought she wasn’t pure.

“What did you mean then, do you like me too?” interrupted Theresa.

Boyce was speechless. ‘I shouldn’t have come, how can I explain this?’

Dolores slapped Theresa’s hand lightly, ‘That’s enough.’

‘I’m just kidding, I’m just teasing Boyce,’ Theresa said, smiling.

Boyce wore a serious expression, “Please don’t joke about this again in the future.”

Others who didn’t know him could easily misinterpret that it was true, after all it was a touchy subject.

“All right, let’s eat.” Dolores tried to change the mood by presenting the dishes, “The middle one is salt goose, Coral said it’s delicious, come on, let’s try it.”

Salt goose is pickled with salt during the winter. It is then cut into small pieces and simmered for two hours in a stew along with ingredients such as wolfberry and ginseng. The bitter and salty taste of the meat combine well. It had a special aroma.

He took a piece for his son.

“I want one too.” Amanda thought she had been forgotten.

Dolores didn’t forget her, but Andrew was closer, so she picked one for him first, she couldn’t pick two pieces at once.

Matthew took a bite of goose and put it on his daughter’s plate.

“Dad’s the best, now Mom only wants Andrew,” she complained as she blinked.

“Can Mom take two pieces at a time?” asked Matthew gently.

Amanda shook her head, “No.”

Her response was quick this time, “I know, I know Mommy loves me too, she said she would take me to the pet store.”

Then she picked up the meat and began to eat. The meat was tender and full of ginseng flavor, “Yummy,” he said.

“Eat up, Renee, it’s tasty,” Andrew reminded Theresa as she ate.

Theresa smiled, “You are so good to me, you never forget about me, look how tasty you eat, let me try some too.”

She picked up a piece of meat, tasted it and said, “It’s delicious.” The children were good at livening up the atmosphere.

The atmosphere around the table was getting better and better, apart from Armand, who was not as talkative as usual, and was still drinking quietly.

The doorbell rang in the middle of dinner, Coral wanted to go but Dolores stopped her. She had been cooking all day, she needed some rest, “Let me go get him.”

“Let me,” the new maid offered.

Dolores nodded, but didn’t sit down. She stood in the dining room glancing at the front door, curious as to who might be visiting at this hour.
