Dolores turned him down without hesitation, “No way.”

Matthew, “…”

He leaned towards her again and rubbed his body against hers, “I think I should show you my love in bed. Soup can’t show you my love at all…”

Dolores pushed his head away, “Don’t be so cheeky. I just want you to show it to me this way.”

Matthew, “…”

Did this mean he couldn’t say ‘no’ to her?

He lost all his appetite when he hit the oil in the soup. But to prove his love, he prepared to drink the soup. But just then, Dolores grabbed his wrist and said with a smile, “It’s a joke.”

“It’s great fun to joke with me, eh?” he looked at Dolores and asked, “Aren’t you afraid of causing a waste?”

Dolores lifted her chin and motioned for him to look at Cotton, who was sitting on the floor and wagging his tail. “You feel it as hard, but Cotton doesn’t.”

Matthew, “?”

Dolores took the bowl from him and walked over to the dog bowl that was set up by the windows. Cotton seemed to realize he was going to have something to eat. He wagged his tail and followed Dolores.

Dolores poured the soup into the dog bowl and reached out to pet Cotton’s head. Cotton rubbed his head against her palm. His fur was very silky.

Thinking Amanda was still mad at her, Dolores turned to give Matthew a look and said, “Spend some time and take Amanda to the pet store.”

Matthew responded with a nasal sound. He didn’t ask why they had to go to the pet store. Amanda was complaining about Dolores today, so it must be Amanda that required this.

Cotton stuck her tongue out to drink the soup from the bowl and made some sounds.

Dolores got up and carried the bowl to the kitchen. As she drained some washing up liquid and prepared to wash the bowl, suddenly a fetal movement emerged from her belly. The tiny fetus kicked her with great force and a large area of her belly moved. Its movement was so sudden that Dolores gasped.

“What’s wrong?” Matthew approached and asked. Dolores looked at him and said with a smile, “The fetus in my belly moved just now.”

“Really?” Matthew hurried to squat in front of her and checked her belly. With one hand placed on the edge of the sink for support, Dolores lifted his hand and placed it on her belly. Several seconds later, the tiny fetus moved again. The movement was no stronger than the previous one, but it was enough to feel.

Matthew stammered excitedly, “It…it moved. I felt it.”

Dolores laughed, “You can come to the hospital with me next time. We’ll be able to see what the baby looks like through the ultrasound.

He was already five months old so the ears, mouth, eyes and all four limbs were fully grown.

Matthew agreed and lifted her evening gown. Dolores furrowed her eyebrows, unconsciously wanting to pull her dress down. “What are you doing?” she asked.

“I want to get close to him.” Matthew didn’t want to feel her separated by the fabric. Seeing the lights in his eyes, Dolores knew she longed for him and didn’t turn him away again.

Matthew placed his palm on the skin of her belly. Perhaps the baby in her womb felt it and gave him a reaction. This time it moved violently and there was an apparent bulge in her belly.

If the movement was too violent, the mother felt a slight pain. But this was normal.

Looking at his hand that was placed on her belly, Dolores suddenly discovered that his hand was similar to that of the intern doctor who gave her an examination in C-Town last time.

“Take my arm.”

Matthew looked at her in confusion and asked, “Why?”

Dolores did not answer his question, reached out her arm and stopped in front of him. As per her request, Matthew grabbed her arm, it was this feeling!

She asked, “Matthew, have you…?”

“He moved again. Dolores, can I hear his heartbeat?” Matthew suddenly interrupted her. Thinking about it now, Dolores discovered that there were many suspicious aspects before. Theresa had promised to accompany her to the exam earlier, but she had asked an intern doctor to see her, found an excuse, and left.

Now, thinking back on it, that intern doctor’s height and figure completely matched Matthew’s.

It was no wonder she became aroused when he touched her.

Dolores asked with a smile, “Matthew, are you amused?”.

Matthew was completely immersed in the movement of the fetus and had no time to think about Dolores’ words. He incongruously replied, “It’s not about fun, it’s about the wonder of life.”

As he spoke, he put his ear to her belly.

Dolores, “…”

“What are you doing?”

“I want to test whether or not I can hear your heartbeat.” Matthew became interested and answered earnestly.

Dolores nudged his forehead, “You can’t hear it unless it’s with medical equipment.”

Matthew glanced around. At this angle, he could kiss her wrist. He rested his lips on her wrist and said in a gentle voice, “Thank you for letting me be a father.”

“If you really want to thank me, you should treat me better. By the way, can you get up now? I have to wash the bowl.”

Matthew, “…”

“Aren’t I still not being nice to you? Should I take out my heart and give it to you to show my…?”

Dolores was quick to cover his mouth, “Don’t talk nonsense in front of your son.”

Matthew laughed and stuck out his tongue to lick her palm. Dolores wanted to pull her hand away, but Matthew grabbed her wrist.

“You and I…”

Andrew woke up at midnight and checked that the living room was still lit. After urinating, he opened the bathroom door and glanced into the living room. Seeing no one in the living room, he came out of his room and then saw Dolores and Matthew in the kitchen….

She hastily covered her eyes and peered through her fingers. He was eavesdropping, but said, “You two can go on. I can see anything.”

Matthew put down Dolores’ dress, stood up and glanced at Andrew, “It’s late, what are you doing here, why don’t you sleep?”

“You don’t sleep either and you even flirt in the kitchen.” Andrew gave him an ambiguous look with a smile, as if he knew what they were doing.

Matthew pointed to his forehead and said, “Go to sleep.”

Andrew yawned, turned around and went back to his bedroom, “You guys should go to bed early too.”

Matthew took the bowl from Dolores and said, “We’ll go to bed too. Coral will clean it tomorrow.”

By the time they went upstairs and went to bed, it was already two o’clock. Because she had slept earlier, it took Dolores a while to get back to sleep.

First thing in the morning, Dolores was awakened by the ringing of her phone.

Dazed, she reached out for her phone. Matthew took her phone and said, “Sleep a while longer.”

She glanced at the screen. Perhaps after purchasing the phone for Dolores, Charles added his name and number to the phone.

The caller ID was “Charles White.”

Looking at the caller ID, Matthew rejected the call without hesitation.

Dolores’ eyes widened and she asked, “Who is this?”

“A prank call.” He blocked Charles’ number, put the phone back on the nightstand and said, “Sleep.”

Dolores sat up, “I can’t go back to sleep.”

Charles called Dolores again and was unable to reach her. Apparently, her number had been blocked.

Glancing at her phone, he assumed this had been done by Matthew. As angry as Dolores was with him, she wouldn’t do it.

Even if she wanted to, she would inform him in advance.

It looked like he had to visit them.

Dolores, unable to go back to sleep, pulled up the comforter and got out of bed. She went downstairs to check on Theresa. Theresa was still sleeping and her forehead didn’t feel warm. She assumed her fever had broken.

Dolores left her room and gently closed the door. Then she went to check on Amanda and Andrew. Amanda had awakened early, but had not gotten out of bed and was rolling around in bed.

Dolores sat on the side of the bed and said, “Amy…”

“I want to sleep.” Amanda pulled the quilt over her head. Apparently, she didn’t want to talk to Dolores, as she was still angry with her.

Dolores furrowed her eyebrows. This girl had a bad temper. She didn’t suck up to her again as she knew Amanda would only forgive her if she took her to the pet store.

Dolores got up, left the bedroom and walked over to the kitchen to help Coral prepare breakfast.

Just then, the doorbell rang. As Coral cut up the fruit, Dolores went to the door.
