âDonât go in anyway.â As she was speaking, something fell to the floor and made a loud noise. Matthew was worried about her and rushed to open the door. Then he saw a pink toy dress-up box and the things in the box scattered on the floor.
Nervously, Tiana turned away with her head down, while Amanda, who was surrounded by the tangled mess, wriggled her fingers and quietly explained, âUhâ¦Daddy, we were playing dress up.â
Matthew touched his forehead wordlessly at the sight of the green and red graffiti on his face.
âDadâ¦â Amanda didnât think she was wrong. She just feared her father would be angry.
Matthew took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and said, âClean it up and weâll have dinner.â
After finishing the words, he turned around and saw that Coral was setting the table. He remembered that Theresa was also in the house and that Coral had to take care of the two children. In addition, Dolores was pregnant. Apparently, Coral was too busy with all those things alone. She pulled out her phone and called Abbott.
Abbott didnât take long to answer the call.
He walked over to the windows. Squeezing the phone, he said, âLooking for a reliable maid for the villa tomorrow. Salary is not a problem. But remember to investigate her background in detail.â
âOkay, I see. Itâs just that one day is too little for me.â Abbott was worried that he wouldnât be able to find a suitable candidate in such a short time.
âTwo days.â Matthew ended the call after finishing the words.
Abbott had gotten used to it and prepared to go find a maid after finishing the current chores.
âDad, whereâs Mom?â Andrew walked over, but didnât find Dolores in either the kitchen or the living room.
Matthew put his phone in his pocket and said, âSheâs upstairs.â
âIâll call her to come down for dinner.â As he spoke, she prepared to run up the stairs. But Matthew reached out to grab him by the collar, âDonât call her.â
Andrew turned and looked at him in confusion, âDid you have a fight with Mom?
If not, why wouldnât she let him call her for dinner?
âYouâve only been making up for a few days now.â Why did they have to let her worry about them? Wait, didnât they show their affection for each other at the mall today?
Matthew frowned and said, âCanât you think of some good things about your parents?â
Andrew pouted and then asked, âIs it because of the Internet thing?â
âWhat thing?â Matthew immediately associated it with the question Dolores had asked him today. He pulled out his phone, preparing to check.
Andrew handed him the computer tablet, âLook.â
Matthew scrolled down the screen and saw several comments.
[Who is this woman?]
someone replied: [Contemporary, a lot of female stars like to marry the rich. Maybe sheâs an unpopular star].
The commenter replied: [I think so. Haha, I canât find any information about this woman on the internet].
[But I think they are a good couple].
â¦
There were a lot of comments. Matthew understood what was going on just from a few quick glances.
But how did these people know about him?
Although he had been in many activities, he had not opened a personal account on Weibo. How could he be so popular?
The likes and comments he was receiving were comparable to those of A-list celebrities.
What was going on?
âAre you done?â Andrewâs hand felt sore after holding the tablet computer up for a long time. He tossed the tablet computer aside and stroked his wrist, âHold it yourself.â
Matthew ignored him. He rubbed Andrewâs head and said, âWash your hands and weâll have dinner.â
âDad.â Amanda, who had wiped her face, walked over with Tiana.
Tiana felt embarrassed and explained, âAmy insisted on drawing him.â
Although Matthew was unhappy with Charles, he did not transfer his anger to Tiana. After all, it was Charles who was not good quality. He said in a level tone, âGo to the table.â
âThank you, Dad.â Amanda was immediately pleased. She held up Tianaâs hand and said, âTiana, hurry up.â
âCotton.â Tiana reminded Amanda, âWe havenât fed Cotton.â
âOh, yes, Iâll get the dog food ready.â Apparently realizing he was about to eat, Cotton wagged his tail and followed them. Amanda took the dog food out of the cupboard and poured some food into the bowl with Tianaâs help.
Then she washed her hands and sat down at the table. Coral had served all the dishes on the table.
When Matthew entered the kitchen, Coral was placing the remaining dishes on a tray, preparing to take them to Theresa. Seeing Matthew, she asked, âWhat do you need?â
âDid you save some food for her?â asked Matthew, fearing that Dolores would have nothing to eat when she woke up.
âI made some corn and esparto soup this afternoon. When she wakes up, I can boil some small wantons with the soup for her. And she can have some lean meat and corn, too.â
Matthew nodded and said, âIn two days a new maid will arrive.â
Coral said with a smile, âI hope life will always be like this. It was too quiet a while ago. Mrs. Nelson wonât be going away again, will she?â
Matthew told her she wouldnât leave again, turned and walked out of the kitchen.
Coral picked up the tray and headed toward Theresaâs bedroom.
Around the table, Tiana didnât take anything, even though she was very hungry. It was only because the two children were there and she, as a guest, couldnât start eating first.
Amanda put a piece of food in her bowl, âTiana, start. Coral cooks well.â
Matthew picked up his chopsticks, glanced at Tiana and asked her to start eating. Tiana, at last, picked up her chopsticks.
After dinner, Amanda took Tiana to her bedroom and wanted to continue the game with her. However, Amandaâs phone rang at that moment.
It was a call from Charles and he told her he was coming to pick her up.
âIâll play with you next time,â Tiana said. She liked this little girl too and thought Cotton was very cute.
Amanda felt bored at home and didnât want her to leave. Tiana didnât think she was childish and was willing to play with her. Amanda took Tiana by the hand and said, âTiana, will you come here again?â.
Tiana replied, âI will if I get the chance.â
âLet me send you.â Amanda had considered Tiana her friend after playing with her for a while.
Although Matthew didnât want to see Charles, he couldnât let Amanda go out alone and could only follow them.
Tiana walked out of the villa holding Amandaâs hand.
Charles got out of the car and waited for her at the gate. There were lights on the door and on the walls and now they were on. There was as much light as day. Seeing them, Charles said with a smile, âThank you, Mr. Nelson.â
Matthew ignored him. He extended his hand toward Amanda, âWe should get back.â
Unwilling to accept it, Charles continued, âAfraid Iâll talk to her so youâll deliberately not let her leave?â
âMaybe Dolores is uncomfortable. She hasnât even had dinner.â
Before Matthew could say anything, Tiana answered Charlesâ question. She let go of Amanda and walked toward Charles.
Hearing that Dolores was uncomfortable, Charles frowned and asked, âWhatâs wrong with her?â
Tiana propped up her wheelchair and shook her head, âI donât know either.â
Lifting Amandaâs hand, Matthew led her toward the villa. Amanda turned and waved to Tiana, âBye Tiana. Come play with me when you are free.â
Tiana agreed and waved her off.
Looking at Matthewâs back and sensing concern for Dolores, Charles asked, âWhatâs wrong with her?â
Matthew paused. Several seconds later, he turned around, âWho told you sheâs uncomfortable?â
âThen why hasnât she had dinner?â Charles glanced at Tiana and then quickly withdrew his sight lines.
Matthew laughed and replied, âSheâs just tired. Shall I tell you why sheâs tired?â
