Apologize to him?
Dolores wanted to answer him, but Matthew grabbed her hand to stop her. He shook his head at her, hinting for her to calm down.
Matthew looked at Declan, pressing his lips into a sharp arc. He said in a cold, determined tone, âAs long as youâre Nelson Family, no one should lay a finger on you. Mr. Bailey, you have a strong backing. However, as strong as your backing is, you must have weaknesses, mustnât you?â
He leaned back slightly on the couch, giving it a rather leisurely look. With a snort, he continued, âYou son of a bitch, you played dirty and got something nasty to show my wife. You kidnapped my wifeâs friend. No matter the old grudge or the new grudge, you must have an explanation for me, Mr. Bailey, donât you think?â
Declan bared his teeth. âYouâve gone too far!â
He insisted that Matthew should apologize to him.
âToo far? The man found in the temple should be working for you, Mr. Bailey. What have you done to my friend, donât you know?â interjected Dolores. She clenched her hands, trying to calm herself.
âMr. Bailey, if you turn fighting into friendship, you should apologize for the car accident during the kidnapping and take responsibility for the matter. Hand over the man who hurt my friend. As for the photos and your show played with your men in C-town, we could be generous and let it go.â
âAre you kidding me?â Declan was also upset that John had secretly gone after Theresa. John not only wanted to rape her but also to let her escape. He also wanted to kill John. When he found out what had happened, he was so angry that his lungs almost burst.
However, she didnât want to give John to them. âIf I just handed John over to them, who would be willing to work for me and trust me in the future?â he asked. The car accident was a purely unexpected incident. I was not the mastermind. The mastermind has already paid its price, havenât you, why do you keep insisting that I have to take responsibility?â
If he turned John over to them, his subordinates would be disappointed in him.
No one would be willing to work for him in the future.
He believed it was important to maintain his menâs trust in him.
Therefore, even if John had made a mistake, Declan would try to protect him. He was not protecting a single person, but the loyalty of his men.
The nightclub manager took the initiative and went to jail for him, so Declan believed he had been treating his men very well.
Dolores scoffed. âMr. Bailey, how could you not understand what everyone else can? If I donât care about my friend, do you think my friend would trust me in the future? We donât insist on anything. We just want anyone who was involved in this matter to take responsibility, is that too much?â
Doloresâ words put her finger on it, and Declan was speechless.
What she was saying really made sense.
Since they couldnât come to an agreement, Declan didnât smile like before. Looking at Matthew and then at the sharp-tongued woman, he seemed to understand why Matthew had fallen in love with that woman.
In his opinion, most women, and the ones he knew, always expected a manâs protection no matter what had happened, or they would shed tears.
However, she stood by Matthewâs side without fear. Declan wondered if she was too ignorant to fear nothing.
Looking at Dolores, he said, âDo you know who my father is? You wouldnât have any benefit if you were against me.â
Dolores gave him a look in his eyes with confidence. He said coldly, âI donât know who your father is. I only know that people are born equal. Anyone who makes mistakes must be responsible for the consequences. In ancient times, when a prince committed a crime, he received the same punishment as someone from the village. Does your father hold supremacy?â
They looked at each other in silence, neither of them willing to give in. After a long moment, Declan grimaced. âVery well. Letâs fight and wait to see who the winner is.â
He walked out of the office after finishing his words.
Dolores didnât turn around. âSee you, Mr. Bailey.â
Declan returned her gaze and his eyes twitched slightly. Finally, he twisted his lips into a smile. âIâm looking forward to meeting you again, Miss Flores.â
Then he burst out laughing and left.
Dolores showed signs of coldness. He was so arrogant, which meant he had a strong backbone to be able to be so sure of himself.
âYou knew, didnât you?â asked Matthew.
Otherwise, she wouldnât have come to him just at this moment.
Dolores turned to give him a look. âThe news has spread like wildfire-how could I not know?â
Matthew rubbed his forehead. âUnfortunatelyâ¦I forgot to turn off the power at the villa.â
Dolores was speechless.
He was still joking.
âSeriously, whatâs your plan? You seem like a tough nut to crack.â Declan wasnât tough, but his sponsor was.
Matthew let out a sigh and didnât answer. He wasnât in the mood to discuss this with her. What she had to do now was stay home and take care of the baby she was carrying, leaving everything to him.
âWhy didnât you listen to me, why donât you stay home?â
âHow could I stay home after watching the news? Theresaâ¦â Her eyelashes quivered. âIâm not letting go of that bastard who hurt her!â She was very determined.
Matthew was silent. He could understand her feeling. Actually, he wasnât sure if Theresa had been raped or not. As soon as she was rescued, she was sent to the hospital. Boyce had not yet called him to report the condition.
John had been hidden by Declan, and Declan feared Matthew would snatch John away from him.
âGive me your phone.â Dolores held out her hand to Matthew.
Matthew pulled out the phone and handed it to her. âDo you want to save your new number in my phone?â
âNo.â Dolores looked down and dialed into her phone without looking up at all.
Matthew was speechless.
He wondered what she was doing.
Was she checking his phone?
Her behavior startled him.
âWhat do you mean then?â Matthew asked timidly.
