The man, who had appeared in C-Town and whose name was Declan Bailey, as Dolores guessed, was now showing up here. She wondered if he had come for Matthew.
At that moment, the call on her phone connected. She heard Boyceâs voice.
мà¹Ð³Ñ Ï Ïâà¸ÑÑร à¸Ñ gà¸lภà¹×©Ñlร.Ïà¹à¹ âHello?â
Since Dolores was using a new number she started using after moving to C-Town, Boyce saw it as an unfamiliar number on the phone.
Dolores tapped the phone. âWhat the hell happened to her Theresa?â
Boyce seemed startled at this voice. After a pause, he answered, âSheâs in a hospital now.â
âDid she hurt herself?â she asked nervously.
âShe has some injuries and is now running a fever. The doctor is treating her,â Boyce answered truthfully.
When Dolores heard his words, however, she didnât understand.
Boyceâs answer kept echoing in her mind.
She thought of Johnâs naked body and subconsciously misinterpreted that Theresa had been raped.
He looked down and asked in a hoarse voice, âDoes Armand know?â
Boyce replied, âYes, he knows.â
âWhat hospital are they in now?â asked Dolores in a hoarse tone.
âAre you coming?â
âNot now. Iâll come later.â Right now, she wanted to know why Declan had come to see Matthew.
âFirst Village Hospital,â Boyce said.
âGot it. Thanks.â He hung up the phone.
Pushing open the door, she got out and told the driver, âPlease wait here for me.â
He planned to go to the hospital later.
The driver answered and parked the car in the basement garage. It was quite warm outside.
Dolores entered the lobby. Although Matthew did not announce her identity to the public, he had admitted her to the company. Therefore, all the employees knew who she was. They did not stop her but treated her with respect.
She smiled faintly at whoever greeted her.
As she exited the elevator, she bumped into Abbot. Upon seeing her, Abbot asked with a smile, âGood morning, Mrs. Nelson. Have you come to pick up Mr. Nelson?â
As Matthewâs important assistant, Abbot was not involved in Matthewâs daily life as much as Boyce and Armand, but he was very clear about his bossâs business.
Dolores replied, âYes. Is this a good time?â
Abbott said, âMr. Nelson is in a meeting with a guest now.â
âIs the guest wearing a silver-gray suit?â she asked.
Abbott nodded. âHave you seen Mr. Bailey?â
Hearing that, Dolores was absolutely certain that the man was indeed Declan Bailey. Otherwise, Abbott would not have called him âMr. Bailey.â
She nodded. âYes. I saw him come in earlier.â
âWould you wait in the lounge, please?â asked Abbott.
Dolores shook her head. âNo, thank you. Iâm going to go in and join your conversation.â
As she spoke, she headed for Matthewâs office door.
As she reached the office door, her phone began to ring in her pocket. He pulled it out and saw that the caller ID was âUncleâ.
He stepped aside and went on to answer the phone. Before Oscar spoke, she took the initiative to ask, âHey, Uncle, did something happen over there?â. Otherwise, he wouldnât be calling her right now.
âNothing serious. Everything is fine here. Someone came for custom-made clothes, but I told him that we already have a lot of orders, so if he was willing, he should wait a long time. To those who were not willing, I suggested they leave. The factory is running normally. You and Theresa have left so suddenly, and you have taken the children with you. I suppose something urgent must have happened. Otherwise, you wouldnât be in such a hurry. Iâm calling to remind you that no matter what has happened, please let me know if you have any difficulties. You must believe in your parents. What they left you was not just the treasure. Do you know what I mean?â.
Dolores glanced at the tip of her foot. âI see.â
âGood. How are the kids? I miss them so much.â Oscar had gotten used to them by now. When they left so suddenly, he always felt like his life was missing something.
âIâll ask them to video call you tonight,â Dolores said.
âOkay, I have to go now,â Oscar said.
Dolores let out an âhmm.â After hanging up the phone, she froze for a moment. Oscar didnât tell her anything about her father, but after being with Oscar for a long time, more or less, she could sense what kind of man her father was.
No matter what kind of man he was, she would remember what was mentioned in Joleneâs letter: he was a good man.
Adjusting her mood, she turned and headed for the office door. Raising her hand, she knocked on the door. A moment later, she was asked to enter.
Dolores straightened her back, pushed open the door and entered.
Matthew was sitting on the couch with his back to her, and Declan was sitting across from him. They didnât touch the coffee in front of them. They seemed to be talking the whole time and didnât stop until she walked in.
Seeing her, Declan looked a little uncomfortable for a while. With a smile, he said, âItâs good to see you again.â
Matthew slowly turned around. Seeing Dolores, he frowned slightly. He had never expected her to approach. He asked her gently, âWhy are you here?â
She kept nothing from Declan. Since the latter had sent some pictures to Dolores, he felt that Declan must know who she was and her relationship with him.
Dolores walked over and smiled at him. âCanât I come see you?â As she spoke, she sat down next to Matthew.
Declan licked his lips with interest. âAre you going to make public displays of affection in front of me, a stranger?â
âIs there a stranger here?â asked Dolores with a smile.
Declan burst out laughing. He looked at Matthewâs face and intentionally tried to embarrass him. He said deliberately, âMiss Flores, you mean youâve never treated me like a stranger? I think weâre pretty close.â
He wondered if she still thanked him for âhelpingâ her in C-Town last time.
âOh? I just didnât realize you were here too.â Dolores was still smiling weakly.
âHo ho. Miss Flores, how interesting! Iâm sitting here right in front of you, how could you not have seen me, am I not a human?â Declan dropped his smile.
Dolores was still smiling. âYou drew that conclusion yourself, Mr. Bailey. I didnât make any comment, all right? Since youâve admitted youâre not a human, I wouldnât disagree with you.â
Declanâs expression stiffened for a moment. Then he regained his smile. âA sharp-tongued woman is not attractive to man. Be careful. Your man will leave you.â
âMr. Bailey, please mind your own business.â Dolores moved her lips slightly. âLast time, when I met you in C-Town, I didnât know you were Mr. Bailey, so I didnât thank you. I got a gift from you, too. I appreciate your hard work.â She looked gently at Matthew, who was looking at her now. Their eyes met. Without any words, they could understand what was in each otherâs minds.
With a smile, she asked, âMr. Bailey sent us such a great gift, donât you want to return one for the appreciation?â
Matthew reached up to brush aside the hair next to her ear and gently held it behind her. With a loving smile, he said, âOf course, I will. Courtesy demands the appropriate thanks, and so does sending a gift. It wouldnât be so impolite.â
Matthew glanced at Declan. âMr. Bailey, how do you like my gift?â
Declan squinted. âIt was you who provoked me first.â
âMr. Bailey, what are you talking about, didnât you work with Jeffery Harris to kidnap someone first? Or, do you think the Nelson Family is easily intimidated and that anyone in the family could be kidnapped?â Matthewâs voice grew deeper, full of hidden anger.
âThe woman I kidnapped was a member of the Nelson Family? Doesnât everyone know that Victoria Forbis was her fatherâs mistress? Mr. Nelson, you donât like your stepmother, do you? You are against me because of this unimportant person. What benefit would you have?â
