Armand glanced around and confirmed that there really was a person. His nerve tensed unconsciously. When he saw the face clearly, he almost pounced on it instantly and caught it. He roared hoarsely, “Theresa!”

Theresa forcibly pushed him away and snarled, “Don’t touch me!”.

It seemed that she had not regained her sanity after the previous thrilling experience, so she felt quite nervous every time she was touched. She even rejected it in panic, even though she knew it was Armand.

Every time she remembered John’s naked body, she felt very disgusted by men.

Armand pulled away with his guard down. He stepped back and sat on the ground. He could feel her panic and fear. Suddenly, he felt as if his heart was breaking and he found it hard to breathe. He almost felt strangled.

John was naked and Theresa wasn’t wearing much clothing either. He kept clenching his fists. If she had a dagger in her hand, she should have stabbed John to death.

If Theresa hadn’t been raped, I didn’t think she would be in such a panic.

Armand sat up and called out to her carefully, “Theresa, it’s me. It’s Armand.”

Theresa opened her eyes. She looked from side to side and finally her gaze focused on his bloodshot eyes. “You… How did you…?”

He was running away, but fell into the cave by accident. He wondered why he had shown himself here.

gαℓησν𝒆𝓁s․𝑐𝓞𝓂 brings great stories “I’ve come to find you.” Armand’s voice was rather hoarse, it sounded like he was sobbing.

Theresa looked at him for a few seconds and said kindly, “Thank you.” She thanked him for coming to get her.

“I don’t need your thanks. For you, I can do anything.” What she said was from the bottom of her heart. Even if she had been raped by John, she wouldn’t care. He wanted to correct his mistake from before and make it up to her, and he also wanted to protect her damaged heart.

“Please give me a chance. If I can’t do it right, you can throw me out at any time.” He was almost pleading.

Theresa hugged herself tightly. Her exposed skin clung to the wall, feeling extremely cold. She huddled in the corner. “Let’s see about getting upstairs.”

She didn’t agree at all. After experiencing life and death the last time, she wouldn’t want to fall in love again. She just wanted to lead a simple life.

Armand did not insist on asking her to accept immediately. He decided to behave well in the future. He was wrong. They had to figure out how to get out of the cave now.

He took a look around and discovered that the cave did not have a dead end. There was a long, narrow hole, into which the body of an adult could fit. He poked his head out and peered in, only to discover that outside was a cliff. The slope was fairly smooth, with no trees or mice that could support a human. It was a chasm thousands of feet below. Armand gasped in fear. If the force of the impact had been a little stronger when he slid down, would he have fallen from this gap by now?

He felt frightened.

As he slid down, he could feel that the cave was quite slippery and that it was largely flat. Without any help, a human would not be able to climb up at all. He tried several times, but failed.

He thought about suddenly using the cell phone.

He wanted to call Boyce and Matthew. In a hurry, he fumbled for it in his pocket.

Fortunately, the phone was not missing. He was glad and comforted Theresa: “Don’t be afraid. I still have my cell phone. I’ll call someone to save us.”

As she spoke, she dialed Boyce’s number, but heard only beeps. He dialed Matthew’s, but heard the same thing. He panicked a little, wondering why both of his lines were busy. He tried calling the firm’s lawyers, but kept hearing only beeps.

He wondered what could be going on.

“Probably no signal here.” They were in a deep forest on a mountain, so it was normal that the phone couldn’t receive any signal.

Armand checked the signal on the screen, and the signal was really gone. He couldn’t see any signal at all.

What were they to do?

He got up and shouted towards the entrance of the cave. He only heard the echo inside the cave.

After Armand shouted for a while, his voice became hoarse, but no one answered.

He sat down on the ground. “They’ll come looking for us for sure.”

Theresa sat motionless throughout. She leaned against the wall and glanced into the hollow. Besides the dense weeds, it was dark and deep below.

In the past, she had only learned the word “abyss” from the book. It was the first time he had seen a real abyss.

It was like a huge monster with its mouth open. Anything that fell into it would be swallowed.

She inhaled. She was amazed by the magic of nature, as well as frightened by their current situation, as they had nowhere to escape.

She wondered if they would die out here like this.

She smiled, wondering why it was so difficult for her to live properly.

Armand wanted to approach her, but feared she would reject him. In the distance, he asked, “Are you all right?”

Theresa turned to give him a look. “Yes, I’m fine.”

Armand wanted to talk to her, but didn’t know what to talk about. After hesitating for a moment, he couldn’t find a way to break the ice. So, he just sat there silently. It was getting darker and darker in the cave. He felt the cold. This cave was in a deep forest with no sunlight. Since it had two entrances, the wind was quite strong.

He felt cold when he was wearing a shirt and suit pants, not to mention that Theresa was wearing little clothing. Her legs were almost totally exposed. He reached up and began to unbutton his shirt.

Theresa stepped back and gave him an alert look. “What are you doing?”

Armand stopped her action and hastened to explain, “Please don’t be afraid. I didn’t mean to do anything. I suppose you must be very cold now. I want to give you my shirt.”

Theresa immediately refused, “No, thank you.”

“I really didn’t mean anything else…”

“I said I don’t need it!” stressed Theresa.

Armand looked at her, feeling heartbroken. “Do you really dislike me that much?”

Theresa turned away. “I just don’t want to see your naked body. You’ve disgusted me enough.”

Armand looked down at himself. After removing his shirt, his upper body was bare, as he wore nothing else under his shirt.

Immediately, he buttoned up his shirt. “I’m sorry. I ignored your feelings. Next time I’ll pay attention.”

Theresa was silent. Armand didn’t know what to talk about. So he sat quietly again. It became completely dark in the cave, and they could see nothing at all.

When it was still light, they didn’t notice, but after it got dark, they heard the chirping of a bunch of insects.

Armand pulled out his phone. He was afraid Theresa would be scared, so he turned on the phone’s flashlight.

When he wanted to pass the phone to Theresa, he realized that she had a lot of wounds on her legs, which were covered in dried blood. It wasn’t until then that she realized she was barefoot. Although there was light in the cave earlier, it wasn’t bright, so he didn’t notice her in the dim light.

Feeling very sorry for her, he reached out his hand and wanted to touch the wounds. However, he realized that she might reject him. He withdrew his hand and whispered, “You are wounded.”

Theresa said nonchalantly, “Just some minor injuries. I’m fine.”

Now the wounds had no burning pain. Her legs were too numb to feel anything.

She had run barefoot through the woods earlier, so she had hurt herself badly.

Armand leaned against the wall, giving her a look. “In the past, I was always complacent and grandstanding, thinking I was pretty awesome. Until, at this moment, I finally realize how useless I am. I used to say I wanted to win your heart back, but I haven’t even been able to provide you with basic protection, and you’ve hurt yourself so many times.”
