Matthew ignored her jokes and coldly said, âLetâs go right now.â
After saying that, he went inside to get his daughter. At that moment, Armand was perplexed. He thought they were going to stay the night and leave tomorrow.
âNow?â Armand thought heâd misheard him.
Matthew turned his head, looked at him and said in a serious tone, âYes, now.â
Armand seemed to realize that something must have happened. He turned off the phone and stood up, âIâm going to pack now.â
âI want to bring Cotton back.â Amanda had the dogâs chain in her hand.
Matthew said, âOkay, bring him in.â
Kevin also came over and asked, âWhy are you leaving in such a hurry? You can rest tonight and leave tomorrow morning.â
âSomethingâs going on.â Matthew briefly explained the reason they had to leave right now.
After hearing what Matthew had said, Kevin didnât continue to ask him to stay and helped them pack.
They were supposed to stay overnight. Since they suddenly wanted to leave, it must have been something urgent.
Matthew loaded up his daughter and went to find Andrew. Andrew wasnât in his bedroom and Matthew couldnât find him in the other rooms. Finally, he saw Andrew in Jaydenâs room.
Jayden was saying something to Andrew. Matthew didnât know what he was saying, but he didnât look as negative as before.
Matthew walked in and told Jayden that they were leaving.
âAre you going back to B-town?â asked Jayden.
Matthew replied that he was.
Jayden didnât urge him to stay. He didnât say much either. He had said what he had to say, and he believed that both Matthew and Dolores should understand.
Andrew grabbed Jaydenâs hand and said, âGrandpa, what if I miss you?â
Jayden patted his grandsonâs head and smiled, âGrandpa will come visit you.â
âOkay then.â Andrew reluctantly let go of Jaydenâs hand.
Matthew took his sonâs hand, glanced at his father and said quietly, âTake care of yourself. Call me if you need anything.â
Jayden shook his hand and advised, âTell Armand to drive slower on the road.â
Matthew replied with an âumâ and pulled the two children out. By that time, Armand had finished packing up. He got the two children into the car and Kevin also helped get Cotton into the car. Luckily for them, the car was roomy enough.
Dolores went to say goodbye to Jayden and told him she would take good care of Matthew and the two boys, telling him not to worry.
She knew Jayden was very relieved and told him to be careful on the road.
When Dolores came out, she saw that they had already finished packing.
She waved to Kevin and said, âWeâre leaving now.â
Kevin nodded, âBe careful.â
âWe will. You take care too.â Kevin was not getting any younger. After this incident, his hard body seemed to give less vigor than before.
Dolores wanted to take them home after a while so she could take care of them. In fact, people would be more likely to think hard if they were left alone in a quiet place. Besides, they wouldnât feel so lonely if they were accompanied by Andrew and Amanda.
Kevinâs eyes turned cloudy. He turned his head quickly toward, not letting Dolores see his eyes. He turned his back to her and gestured, âIf you want to leave, leave now. You wonât be able to see the road clearly at night, so leave while itâs still daylight.â
Matthew opened the car door for Dolores. She looked at Kevin, then ducked down and got into the car.
Hearing the car engine start, Kevin still turned around and looked at them.
He was very reluctant to see them leave, though.
He knew it was inevitable.
Dolores rolled down the window. The two children leaned against the window and waved goodbye to Kevin: âBye, man, weâre leaving.â
Kevin shook their hands back, âIf you have time, donât forget to visit me.
Iâll miss you all.â
âWeâll come visit you and miss you too.â Amanda leaned back against the window. Although she was reluctant to be separated from her grandfather and uncle, she wanted to be with her parents more.
Kevin laughed, âIâm happy enough just hearing these words. Donât delay any longer, you must go now.â
After saying goodbye to him, Matthew drove the car.
Armand brought the snacks he had bought for the two boys. They were bored, so they ate some of the snacks. Dolores was not feeling very well as she was worried about Theresa. Theresa had already suffered a lot last time. As for this time, Dolores dared not think about it, fearing that something might happen againâ¦.
âMom, what are you thinking about?â Andrew could sense Doloresâ low spirits, so he asked worriedly.
Dolores stroked her sonâs face and forced a smile on his stiff face. She didnât want to affect her two sons with her discomfort. She pulled herself together and said, âIâm thinking, when are they both going to grow up?â
âWeâll grow up when theyâre older,â Amanda interjected.
âSo, will you dislike Mom when I grow up and get uglier?â asked Dolores with a smile.
âNo.â Amanda even threw down the absorbent cotton, leaned over and lay in Doloresâ arms. âYou are the prettiest mommy in the world.â
Andrew pulled away and made room for his sister.
Dolores reached out and patted Cotton, âDo you want to bring him back?â
Amanda nodded firmly, lifted her head and asked, âDonât you think heâs cute?â
âYes, heâs cute, much cuter than you.â She pinched her daughterâs face.
âNo, Iâm the cuter one.â Amanda touched Doloresâ belly, âWhen is the baby coming out? I canât wait for it to come out.â
Dolores stroked her head and told her it would be soon.
The sky was darkening and the lights of passing houses were coming on. The two children were tired from playing. They had also eaten their snacks, didnât say they were hungry and fell asleep right away.
When the two children had fallen asleep, Armand asked, âWhatâs wrong?
Why do we have to go back in such a hurry?â.
Matthew, who was sitting in the passenger seat, turned his face back to Dolores. Dolores also glanced in his direction. Although they said nothing, they were able to understand each otherâs thoughts.
âDonât I give enough grief?â Armand stared straight ahead.
Even without looking, he knew the couple exchanged glances. How could they show their love for each other when he was still in the car? Were they purposely making him feel sad?
âTheresaâs not ready to forgive me. And you two keep showing your affection in front of me. Are your hearts made of stone? Donât you think Iâm pitiful? Canât you treat me better?â Armand let out a string of complaints.
He was heartbroken. Theresa didnât want to forgive him and didnât know what to do in the future. She let out a sigh, picked up the subject and asked, âCan you say something, please? Whatâs going on here? Why are we in such a hurry? Are we going back to City B or City C?â
