Matthew didnât stop them, staying inside the house and watching as Dolores followed Jayden out.
He knew what Jayden was probably going to say to Dolores.
Amanda turned her head toward so she could look at her, âDad, I want to keep this dog, is that okay?â.
âIâll get you a small one.â This dog was too big for her and she felt insecure that it might hurt her.
The dog was smart, but just in case.
âNo, I just like it.â Amanda pouted, her head rubbing against his neck.
âI have this dog, and heâs also trained not to bite anyone. Since Simona likes him, let her keep him,â Kevin said again that the dog had been trained.
I knew Matthew must have been afraid the dog would hurt the children.
This dog was docile. Although he was big, he was not grumpy.
In addition, the well-trained dog was clean and did not urinate or defecate anywhere. All it needed was a doghouse, food and water, and it didnât require much work.
There were maids at home and they didnât have to worry about that.
âIs that all right? Look, Great Uncle even agreed to give me the dog,â Amanda pouted and kept pleading, almost crying.
He was always soft in front of his daughter. Finally, he agreed.
Amanda immediately smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek, âThank you, Daddy.â
She was very excited when she slipped out of his arms and ran over to the Samoyed to pet his head. The dog meekly rubbed his head against her palms, making Amanda laugh.
She looked up at Kevin, âGreat-uncle, if you give him to me, heâs mine. I want to rename him.â
Kevinâs name for him was Simba. Although he was cute with his white fur, he was big and strong with long hair, so Kevin named him that.
Kevin squatted down next to Amanda, petted Simbaâs head and said, âSure you can! When I give it to Simona, it will be Simonaâs.â
Although the names of these two children were changed, they preferred to call them by their original names because they were familiar to them.
The previous names they took as nicknames.
Amanda happily hugged Simbaâs head and stroked his fur: âIâm going to call him Cotton. Heâs white and big.â
Kevin smiled and said fondly, âSimona is very smart. Her name is much better than mine.â
Amanda held the dogâs head and continued to call him Cotton. She was proud of the name she had chosen.
Andrew sat off to the side without speaking, studying alone the game he had just lost.
Armand came in with a large bag. He bought not only fruit and ice cream, but also some snacks for the two children.
He put the bag on the table and said, âCome on! The ice cream is going to melt.â
Amanda quickly ran to Armand: âWhereâs my ice cream? I want it.â
Armand took the ice cream to her and gave the other to Andrew, who said nothing, âHey, why donât you look happy, do you want some ice cream?â.
Andrew didnât look up and said, âNo.â
It looked like he wasnât going to rest until he figured it out.
Armand said, âThis boy is very serious. He looks like heâs lost again.â
Matthew sat down across from his son, âYou want to play again?â
Armand looked around, didnât see Dolores and asked, âWhereâs Dolores? I got the cake I wanted.â
Matthew put the cake aside, ignored Armand and began to place the pieces on the board in their respective places. Then, he said to Andrew, âYou go first.â
Andrew gave him a look, âYou go first.â
Matthew raised an eyebrow, âItâs not good for you to be so harsh.â Despite what he said, he went first.
âIâm not trying to be harsh. I just want to know my strength and I donât want others to let me go first.â Andrew glanced at the board carefully, taking each move with caution.
Armand ate Andrewâs ice cream, pulled up a chair and sat to the side, watching his game with interest.
Halfway through the game, Andrew lost half of his pieces. It looked like he was going to lose again. This time, Andrew took a very hard hit. He didnât want to play before the game was over.
He said nothing, got up and left.
He looked angry.
Armand said, âTsk, why are you so serious about playing chess with your son! Canât you let him win? He has lost several times.â
Matthew wanted to do it too. But Andrew was too competitive and too proud. If he deliberately let him win, he wouldnât be happy, even if he won.
âHe still has a long way to go. If Iâm soft on him, can anyone else be soft on him?â Matthew got up with the cake and left.
Armand pulled down the corners of his lips and whispered, âInhuman.â
Matthew was inhuman to his friends and to his own son. In short, he was an inhuman man.
Jayden did not take Dolores into the room to talk, but to a quiet spot outside the courtyard, where large, leafy camphor trees with dense leaves blocked the sunlight. Under the trees was a large shaded area. With an occasional breeze, it was very cool and not hot at all.
âIâve heard about you guys,â Jayden said first. He stood under the trees with his back to Dolores.
Dolores took a look at his back. She had lost a lot of weight in the last two months. Her eyes werenât as bright as they used to be.
If it wasnât for the two children, she wouldnât even have the energy she had now.
It was only when the two children were here that he seemed more animated.
âYou knew her heart from the beginning and you knew how important Matthew was to her. Surely she wanted her son to live a happy life, not to be separated from his wife and children by his death,â Jaydenâs voice was low. He pulled Dolores out to try to convince her to let go of the past. After all, it wasnât her fault.
What could be wrong with her?
She couldnât choose to be born and she couldnât choose her family. The last generation put her through this.
âI think she must want you to take good care of her son, not stay away from him because of his death. If you feel guilty, you should stay with him and take care of him and the two children. Those two children are so poor that they have no days of peace.â
How poor the children would be if they were separated!
Jayden turned to look at Dolores, âWe donât know what we have until we lose it. But when you lose it, you canât get it back. Promise me youâll go back to him this time.â
Dolores ducked her head, âI promise. I understand what you mean.â
Jayden nodded in satisfaction, âIâll be here for a few more months. But Iâll be back from time to time to see the two boys.â
It sounded like he was saying he would come back from time to time to see if they were together.
Dolores knew his thoughts. She was touched, âDad, thank you.â
After all, Victoriaâs death was more or less about her, but he was still treating her with such tolerance.
Jayden sighed, âSilly, you call me Dad and she calls me Mom, so weâre family. Donât thank me.â
He waved his hand, âCome on inside. Itâs hot outside.â
Dolores didnât say anything, but she wasnât calm inside. Listening to Jaydenâs words, she felt mixed emotions. He said that people didnât know what they had until they lost it. He seemed to be referring to himself. She thought, âJayden should be talking about him and Victoria.â He regretted Victoria.
She understood and appreciated what she had now, including her lover and her family.
After this incident, she realized her feelings for Matthew.
Her love for him turned out to be so deep.
She had just crossed the threshold when she was grabbed by the wrist.
Seeing that it was Matthew, she said nothing and followed him into the room.
This was the east room, the room she had slept in the night before. It was clean and spacious. Although it was a wooden house, it had modern decor inside and it was convenient to live here.
Matthew pulled her to sit on the edge of the bed and, without asking any questions, took her in his arms and kissed her on the lips. In the past, his kisses were always deep, dominant and passionate. But this time, he only kissed her gently. He repeatedly pressed his lips gently against hers and then quickly pulled away.
Dolores looked into his dark eyes, knowing that he was tasting â¦
