Dolores Flores averted her eyes without looking at him, lowered her head, and asked, “What happened?”

“About your uncle, Jeffery Harris,” Oscar Adams said.

Since Jolene Harris was his older brother’s wife, therefore, he knew something about her. At first he had promised Dolores that he would look into Matthew Nelson’s affairs, but he ended up knowing about Jeffery’s affairs.

She had no idea about the feud between Jeffery and Matthew, and only knew that something had happened to Jeffery.

As Jolene’s daughter and Jeffery’s niece, Dolores should have been informed or gotten help.

Matthew also heard Oscar’s voice on the other end, since he was nearby, so he glanced at Dolores and wanted to see what her expression was, if she was unhappy about the Jeffery affair. However, he couldn’t see her expression at that moment as she lowered her head.

She had already seen the news and her mood swings had long since passed. Besides, even if she had any emotion, she wouldn’t have shown it with Matthew around.

She shifted her feet and took two steps toward the edge of the road to distance herself from Matthew. She had no intention of staying away from him, she just didn’t want him to hear Oscar’s voice.

Still, she kept her head down, looked at her toes and said, “I know. Don’t ask any questions and don’t interfere. I’m not in C-town. Please help me give the stuff from the factory.”

“It’s your uncle…”

“Uncle.” Dolores interrupted him and obviously did not want to talk about this subject.

Oscar was not stupid and understood her refusal. He paused for a moment.

Then he changed the subject, “Where are you going since you’re not in C-Town?”

“I’m attending my friend’s wedding. I’ll be back soon.”

“Well, I’m here, don’t worry.”

Dolores said, “Then I’m hanging up.” She simply hung up the phone after hearing his reply. She put it back in her purse, looked up and met his eyes. He was looking at her and his deep eyes seemed dark.

He seemed to be probing her, but also to be pretending to be indifferent.

Right now she was standing close to him, so he must have heard what Oscar was saying.

She feared he misunderstood and explained, “I received those photos and feared it was someone pretending to be looking out for you, so I asked him to ask about you.”

So he knew something about Jeffery, but didn’t talk about it because it was a barrier between them. Mentioning his name would make them both uncomfortable.

Matthew pursed his lips and knew what was bothering her. He didn’t want to mention it either as he didn’t want to ruin the mood because of someone who didn’t matter.

He smiled and asked, “So, are you worried about me, are you afraid that I’m in danger?”

Dolores looked at him, “I’m worried about the two children, since they are with you.”

He reached over and slipped his arm around her shoulders, “Is it so hard to admit that you’re worried about me?”

She turned her face away, but he wouldn’t allow it and turned her face to look at him, “Tell me, did you miss me?”

“No,” she deliberately denied.

In fact, she had missed him very much during this time.

She missed him a lot.

“Really?” he lifted his lips with an expression of disbelief, for she had been so passionate that night.

“It’s fake.” Suddenly, she rolled onto her side and slipped her arms around the side of his waist to hug his slender waist. She was having a hard time and was stressed, “I’m tired of living.”

He stroked her back because he knew she had endured more than he had. “We’re going to settle in C-town. When we get back, I’ll buy a bigger house and we’ll live together as a family, is that okay with you?”

“Is that okay with you?” She really didn’t want to go back to City B. Even if they didn’t mention those people and stuff, they would always hear about the things that had happened before when they lived there.

After all, things happened in that City and there were a lot of people who knew about it, they would surely gossip.

Dolores had worries on her mind since Matthew worked there after all, “What about your company?”

“I’ll hire someone to take care of it.” She smiled, “I’ll stay here with you and the two kids. If not, I can count on you since you can support me now.”

She said, “I can’t afford to support you.”

“Then I will eat less and there is no need to prepare another room for me. I will share your room and a small part of your bed will be mine. Anyway, I don’t take up the space, it won’t cost you much.” He was speechless.

“It’s too hot outside, let’s go back and pick up the two kids.” Matthew put his arm around her and pulled to the side of the road to hail a cab. Since there were no cars coming, he asked, “Are you tired? Let’s take a day off before we go back, is that okay with you?”

“It’s better to go back. Do you know who took the pictures?” she tilted her head to look at him.

She would always feel uncomfortable if this matter was not resolved.

Matthew hugged her tighter, “I know, but I’m not sure yet. I’ve asked Boyce Shawn to look into it.” He looked at her and said earnestly, “I really didn’t do that.”

She understood, but pretended deliberately not to understand and asked, “What?”

Matthew was speechless.

“You know what I mean.” Did he have to say it so plainly?

“I don’t know.”

Even if someone had made it up on purpose, it left a mark on her heart and she always imagined he was really cheating on her.

“I haven’t had sex with any woman other than you.” Matthew explained word for word. At that moment, he raised his hand to stop the cab.

“Even if you had, I wouldn’t know either.” She trusted him, but felt extremely uncomfortable.

She was speechless.

When the cab pulled up next to the curb, he opened the door and used his hand to shield her head from the blows. She ducked down and got into the car, followed by him.

Since they were sitting in the cab with a driver in front, they did not speak during the ride. When they reached the destination and got out of the car, Matthew grabbed her hands, “You can check.”

“What check?” Dolores didn’t answer for a moment.

She said earnestly, “Check to see if I cheated on you.”

“How, how, how can you check?” she stammered. How else could it be checked but by trapping him in bed and finding substantial evidence?

Matthew tugged at his shirt collar and on his skin was a thin layer of sweat from the heat. He smiled, “Of course it’s checking it out in bed.” She was speechless.

It took her three words to get out, “How embarrassing.”

He didn’t care, he reached out to touch her stomach. He could still feel the heat of her body through the fabric. “You should stay away from that guy whose last name is White from now on.”

“Are you jealous?” she glared at him.

“I want to cut off his hand.” Thinking of Charles White’s face with a smile on it at that moment, she wanted to rip his face off to see if he could still laugh.

She knew she was wrong for not avoiding him, after all, men and women were different, and they were both married. Whether Tiana was in her right mind or not, Charles shouldn’t have done that in front of her.

“You know. The girl he married is very plain.” He said tactfully, but Matthew still understood what he meant.

No one dared to be so reckless in front of his wife, unless she wasn’t in her right mind.

Otherwise, who could tolerate it?

“Do you feel sorry for her?” As soon as Matthew saw her expression, he knew what she was thinking.

Without waiting for her response, he continued, “If you give him face, he’ll be more brazen. Don’t pity him.”

He grabbed her hands in a domineering manner and said earnestly, “Do you hear me?”

She didn’t want to anger him, so she nodded obediently, “Understood.”

He pinched her nose, “That’s good. Come in, Samuel and Simona are in there.”

“They’ve both changed their names.” She thought she had forgotten and reminded him.

He turned his head to give her a serious look.
