Being in a bad mood, Dolores did not hear clearly whose voice it was.
She asked annoyed, âWho are you?â.
Charles glanced at his phone, wondering if he had misheard. He rarely saw Dolores angry, who had provoked her?
He put the phone back to his ear and said, âThis is Charles.â
This time it was Dolores who looked down at her phone, surprised that Charles had called her, âHow did you find out my phone number?â
âI know where you are, is it hard to find out your phone number?â Charles laughed bitterly, âAre you upset that Iâm contacting you?â
Dolores sat down on a changing stool on the porch and explained, âNo, Iâm just not in a good mood.â
âWhy arenât you in a good mood, can you tell me?â asked Charles.
âYou phoned me, something must be up, right?â. She wouldnât tell other people why she was in a bad mood.
Why would she advertise the indecent pictures of Matthew?
Sheâd be crazy to do so.
MøÉÉ Å³ÏÉαâ ÑŠıŠɢαâÅÏνÑÆÅ.ÆÏÊ âThere is indeed something going on, thatâs why I called you out of the blue, were you going to hang up on me?â Charles laughed.
Dolores pursed her lips wordlessly.
Charlesâ voice came through again, âTake a trip to White City.â
âIâm afraid I donât have time.â Dolores turned him down sharply.
She really didnât have time for that. On the one hand, it was the store and factory business. On the other, it was Matthewâs business.
Charles let out a bitter laugh, it was what he expected, but he couldnât help but feel disappointed.
âWeâre still friends, arenât we?â Charles suppressed his sadness and smiled, âIf I send you an invitation to my wedding, you still wonât come?â
What?
Had he heard wrong?
Charles was getting married?
âReally?â asked Dolores uncertainly.
âOf course, would I joke about this, are you sad that Iâm marrying another woman?â he asked with a laugh.
âNo, Iâm just very surprised.â She hadnât heard any news of this beforehand. And now, all of a sudden, sheâs getting married.
âSo, if I invite you to my wedding ceremony, will you come? Are we still friends?â Without waiting for Doloresâ reply, Charles said again, âIt may be inconvenient for you, Iâve already had Tom pick you up.â
Dolores held her forehead. He wasnât giving her a chance to turn him down.
But it was her wedding, and since he had already invited her, it wouldnât be right for her not to go.
She thought about it and agreed. She would treat this as a getaway. Hopefully, by the time she got back from White City, Matthew would have sorted out the photo thing.
âWhen is Tom coming?â asked Dolores.
âHe should have been here by now.â Dolores was speechless.
âYouâve already planned everything.â
âI have to make sure everything is set up for your affairs.â Charlesâs tone was still teasing.
This was because Charlesâ wedding would take place tomorrow, so she had to leave today. If she left now, she would be just in time.
She informed Theresa about it. Since it was summer, she took two sets of clothes to change into, as well as a dress. After all, she was going to attend someoneâs wedding, of course she had to wear something appropriate.
Theresa knew that Carlos had sent someone, so she wasnât worried. But she was also as surprised as Dolores about her sudden marriage.
Her actions were swift.
She wasnât even sure who the companion was.
Tom drove a multi-purpose vehicle. It was very roomy and allowed him to rest.
After Dolores got into the car, he asked, âIs your Mr. White really getting married?â
It seemed too fast to her, as if it were a dream.
âYes, we canât joke about these things.â Tom started the engine and answered.
âHowâs the missus?â asked Dolores, out of sheer curiosity.
Although Charlesâ legs were not good, she could tell he was a very proud man.
Since they were already going to be married, the lady must be pretty good.
âYouâd better ask Mr. White yourself.â Not that Tom wanted to be secretive, but it seemed to him that this question would be best answered by Charles himself.
After all, Dolores was someone Charles had liked before. He feared he still liked her now, only he had decided to let her go after making peace with things.
âYou can lie down in the back and rest, thereâs some fruit in the mini fridge downstairs.â said Tom.
The car was actually very comfortable, the air conditioning was on in the car, and the temperature was not too low and just right. The seats in the back were folded down to form a bed. There was no difference from the bed at home.
Mainly, there were also fruits prepared. Dolores looked toward Tom, âNo wonder he can receive Mr. Whiteâs confidence.â
As for caring for others, he was very considerate.
As if he understood what Dolores meant, Tom explained, âThis was all instructed by Mr. White, he was concerned that you would feel tired on the long journey.â
Dolores was suddenly speechless. After a while, she said, âIâll have to thank him when I see him then.â
Tom turned to look at her without saying anything. Charlesâ feelings for her were clear and obvious, the fact that he was doing this meant that she was still in his heart. That was why he was still doing this.
âGet a good rest, weâll be there before dawn.â said Tom.
Dolores agreed and didnât keep talking. She lay down resting in the back. Maybe because the car was swaying slightly, it made her fall asleep very easily.
When she woke up, it was almost dawn. Dolores asked, âHave we arrived?â
âYes, we have arrived at the borders of White City.â replied Tom.
âThank you for your hard work on this trip.â It was exhausting driving at night.
âIt was another driver driving when we came to pick you up. I just drive back.â said Tom.
Charles was worried that it would be too tiring for Tom and that something would happen to him on the road. So he had arranged for someone else to drive there, hence on the way Tom could rest in the car. He had only driven back, so it wasnât too tiring.
âHelp me find a hotel, Iâll wash up a bit.â Dolores said.
âOkay.â
White City was their territory, so everything was convenient for them.
Quickly, Tom got a hotel for Dolores.
Dolores rested for a while after arriving at the hotel. After washing up, it was already 6:30 in the morning.
Tom came to pick her up, saying that Charles wanted to see her.
Dolores frowned, âToday is his wedding, we would see each other at the ceremony later.â
There was no need to see each other now.
Tom said as he smiled, âIâll just take care of sending the message, donât make things difficult for me. Please go visit my Mr. White.â
Without waiting for Dolores to respond, Tom continued, âDonât worry, Mrs. Flores. Mr. White has already decided to get married, so he wonât do anything to make things awkward.â
Dolores nodded her head. Tom had already made things so clear, that, if she kept refusing, it would look like she was being too pretentious.
Tom drove the car and took her to a relatively quiet part of town. The morning sun had just risen, so it wasnât too humid.
After getting out of the car, Dolores saw the silhouette of Charles by the river. In this place, it was especially quiet at this hour.
She took steps forward, stepping over the overgrown grass and jumbled rocks without a proper path. Charles didnât turn around, but it seemed he knew she was here.
âAre you very surprised?â He asked.
âIâm fine, youâre at the age when you should be married too.â Dolores said simply.
She stood beside him, breathing in the fresh morning air, and felt herself relax a little.
Charles turned to look at her, âArenât you curious who my marriage partner is?â
Dolores turned to him, âWho is she?â
Charles looked toward the river, âShe has a good family background, and would be useful to me in my career. Because of the petty man in your house, the White Group has been badly affected. So I have found a lady with a good family background to be my partner.â
On the muddy road behind them, Tom had already taken off with the car. But another car was heading toward them from a distance.
Jayden had known that the two boys had followed Matthew here together, so he had wanted to get closer to the two boys. Thinking about the fact that Jayden would not be returning to B-town anytime soon, and that they were not sure when they would be back, Matthew agreed to stay an extra day. This was so that the children could keep Jayden company. This had delayed their plan to return to City C by a day.
They were originally due to return yesterday morning, but had delayed it until this morning.
They had slept in late last night, so the two children were also groggy and sleepy when they got in the car. Matthew hugged his daughter. As they passed this road, he glanced out the window casually.
