âJeffery and his stepmother are incompatible, you know that better than I do. He hates that woman so much that he came to me because he is aware that I know a lot of people. He wanted me to do him a favor and put that woman away. However, the person who did it was ineffective and something went wrong. But it wasnât a big deal. Anyway, you and Jeffery didnât like that woman. Itâs better now that sheâs gone, so she wonât bother them.â
Declan didnât notice Matthewâs face. He just sensed that the atmosphere in the place was inexplicably cold. He felt a little annoyed.
The three women standing by the door seemed unnecessary. So he shouted in a deep voice at the door to the manager, âGet them out of my sight.â
The manager ushered those women out with some of his men.
Matthew raised his eyelids slightly with a look in which it was hard to make out his emotions, âMr. Bailey is really unusual. Now the anti-pornography and anti-crime banners are everywhere. His club is still open as usual. And he even dares to kidnap people.â
âI did it as a favor to Jeffery! He couldnât do this kind of thing personally because of his status, so he asked me to do it.â
Declan leaned back on the couch and turned his head, âMr. Nelson, are you really here today to have fun orâ¦?â
He knew Jefferyâs relationship with Matthew. Otherwise, he wouldnât be so honest.
It was no small matter. He thought long and hard before speaking.
If he hid something and Matthew found out from Jeffery, then he would be in a difficult position.
âWhat does Mr. Bailey think Iâm here for?â
Declan looked into Matthewâs eyes, froze for a moment and said with a smile, âPeople who come to my house do so, of course, for pleasure.â
âMr. Bailey, you have disappointed me today.â Matthewâs tongue licked his incisors, which made him sound even more arrogant than Declan. He sounded fierce, but he had a calm look on his face, âItâs not what it used to be. Mr. Bailey, you need to be more cautious. Donât be fooled by someone just like that.â
Declanâs face changed, âWhat do you mean?â
Did he mean something other than what he had said?
Matthew stood up. Armand and Boyce also stood up.
Their gaze was cold, âMr. Bailey, did you ask him to do such a simple little thing as catching a woman because it was uncomfortable for him, or because he didnât dare do it himself?â
Declanâs eyes narrowed-what did he mean?
That Jeffery was using him?
âMr. Nelson, are you kidding me? Heâs your uncle. Instead of taking his side, heâs taking mine. You think Iâm going to believe that?â
Jeffery was his uncle. Was he here to test him by exposing Jeffery?
At the time, Declan didnât dare believe Matthewâs words. After all, he and Jeffery were on the same side.
âItâs up to Mr. Bailey to believe it or not. I just canât bear to have someone used without knowing again,â he said no more, âMr. Bailey, Iâd like to thank you for your hospitality today.â
âPlease donât say that. Mr. Nelson, I didnât let you enjoy yourself today. Be sure to let me know in advance the next time you come. I will definitely let Mr. Nelson enjoy himself.â
Declan was a little distracted. If Matthew meant anything by his words, this was an obvious reminder.
And, he used the word again. What did he mean? Was someone else being used by Jeffery and didnât know it before he did?
âMr. Nelson, can you explain it to me?â he stood up and walked over, âMr. Nelson, do you know something?â
Matthew said significantly, âHas Mr. Bailey heard about Eddie?â
âEven though it was covered up, everyone in the circle knows. He suddenly lost everything at his age. It was so seriousâ¦â However, he soon realized something and sensed something was wrong. What did Matthew mean by suddenly mentioning Eddie?
âSo youâre saying that Jeffery had something to do with what happened to Eddie?â
Matthew jerked at his dust-free shirt collar, his expression and tone significant, âI said that? Mr. Bailey, donât give me any trouble.â
Declan was quick to understand. Matthew had concerns. After all, Jeffery was his uncle-how could he openly dig up dirt on him?
At that moment, Armand intervened just in time: âJeffery is old and meddlesome. Besides, he wants to be in charge of other peopleâs marriages, regardless of whether they like it or not. Itâs annoying when those old men impose their ideas on others.â
After hearing it for so long, Armand finally understood. Matthew tried to turn Declan and Jeffery against each other and became suspicious. He played both ends from the middle.
Just now Matthew had thrown Eddie out as bait. So now he had to give Declan a reason why Matthew would tell him so he wouldnât get suspicious.
Jeffery forced Matthew to marry, so Matthew was unhappy with Jeffery. He then brought up Jefferyâs dirty laundry in front of Declan.
Matthew pretended to be unhappy and looked at Armand, âNo one would treat you like a mute if you didnât talk.â
Armand lowered his head, âIâm telling the truth.â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Bailey.â
Declan cracked a smile, âItâs normal for you to be urged to marry at this age. Jeffery is your uncle. He cares about your marriage for your own good. Itâs unworthy of you to hold a grudge against him for this.â
She said this, but what she was thinking was not this. If, as Armand said, Jeffery had forced Matthewâs marriage, it was possible that Matthew was upset with him.
Matthew said in front of him that Eddie had ended up like this because of Jeffery. Although it was a bit petty to do so, it was possible. After all, Matthew was known in the circle like that. He had always been decisive and ruthless. If he suffered a loss, he would give it back twice over.
Jeffery must have gone too far to bother him.
After Matthew left, Declan called the manager.
He wasnât a child and wouldnât believe them based on his words alone. He had to look into it clearly before he could rest easy.
âGo and find out if Jeffery forced Matthew to marry any women. Also, find out if Eddieâs fall had anything to do with Jeffery.â
The manager said, âI will as soon as I can.â
Declan waved his hand impatiently, âGo away.â He hoped it wasnât true. If it was trueâ¦
He muttered Jefferyâs name repeatedly.
Did Jeffery use him, did he think he was someone easily intimidated?
Leaving the nightclub, Matthew looked at Boyce, âIâll see you at the office.â
After that, he got into the car. Armand was gossipy and bumped Boyceâs shoulder with his own.
Then he lifted his chin slightly and looked at Jasmine, who was standing next to Boyce, âHow long have you two known each other? Why didnât you tell us? Youâre afraid weâll steal her away from you, huh?â
âDonât be ridiculous. I did it at someoneâs request.â Boyce looked at Armand angrily, âWhy are you still here?â
Armand smiled and headed for the car. As he walked, he examined Jasmine. Then he licked his lips. This girl was too young. Boyce really was a cradle robber.
âBoyce is older but innocent. You should be nice to him.â Armand winked at Jasmine.
