As he spoke, the manâs dagger plunged further into Doloresâ neck. A bloody gash appeared instantly.
The four bodyguards froze and did not dare to move again.
Victoria was in a panic. Pulling the man, she pleaded, âPlease! Donât hurt her.â
The man could tell that Victoria was very worried about Dolores. He looked at her fiercely. âI can let go of her. As we get into the car, I can consider letting her go.â
âOkay. Okay. I promise you. But you must promise me you wonât hurt herâ¦â
The man grew impatient. He blurted out, âShut the fuck up! If you want to save her, get in!â
âNo!â Dolores pleaded with Victoria in a hoarse tone, shaking her head. As long as Victoria was still with her, they still had a glimmer of hope. If she did, she wouldnât be able to escape.
Ignoring her, Victoria bent down and sat in the minivan. There was a driver inside. She looked back at him. Without speaking, he started the engine.
The man looked at the four tall, strong men standing near him and sneered. âNo matter how strong your fighting ability is, it is useless. You have a weakness and are destined to fail.â
The faces of the four bodyguards tensed. They clenched their fists, but dared not take any action in spite of Dolores.
The man led Dolores into the minivan.
Dolores struggled, but he threatened her with the knife fiercely. âIf you donât want to die, behave yourself!â
âDidnât you promise me that you would let her go as long as I went with you?â Victoria sat in front of the door to block it, preventing the man from taking Dolores away.
âIf you dare stop me again, Iâll kill her now. Believe it or not. Iâve kidnapped her only because I donât want those pesky bugs bothering me. When we get to a safe place, Iâll let her go. Our target is you.â
Faced with the threat, since it was about Doloresâ safety, Victoria had to give in again.
Furthermore, the man said that she was the target, so he didnât think they were going to hurt Dolores.
The man dragged Dolores to sit in the car. The cramped space made them feel more uncomfortable.
Doloresâ nerve was so tense that she couldnât even feel the pain in her neck.
The minivan sped off.
âYou two, stay and make calls. Protect the children. Weâll chase them.â One of the bodyguards made the arrangement calmly and quickly. Then he and another bodyguard took another bystanderâs car, chasing the minivan.
The driver of the minivan met the car following them, so he accelerated more and more, stepping on the accelerator with all his might.
He was too afraid that the car following them would catch up, so he focused on the rear and ignored the front. The minivan pulled into the oncoming lane. The driver paid no attention to it until he heard the truck honking.
However, the truck was too close to the minivan at the time.
Instinctively, the driver tried to change direction. The minivan careened into the green belt at the edge of the road. The truck in front could not brake in time. It rushed into the back of the minivan, which was exactly the side where the man who kidnapped Dolores was. The man fainted instantly. Panicking, Dolores pulled away from his hand on her neck.
The minivan sped off. With the thrust of the truck, the minivan crashed through the short fence. With a loud bang, it didnât stop until it hit the fence pillar.
The hollow pillar could not withstand such a large impact from the minivan. It cracked. The triangular-supported billboard originally lost one of its supporting forces and would fall at any moment.
The man who kidnapped Dolores must have taken the blow to the head, so he fainted instantly. Blood flew along with his head, staining his entire face. The minivan was seriously damaged. The driver in front had already stopped breathing.
Dolores was in turmoil in the middle, unable to move her legs at all.
âMom, are you okay?â she asked in a weak tone.
She didnât know where Victoria had been hurt, as she looked pale. Victoria came back to her senses dizzy. Seeing that it was Dolores calling her, she struggled to open her eyes. âIâm fine, how about you?â
âI canât move my legs.â
Crackâ¦
They heard a noise. Victoria looked up and discovered that the billboard was about to fall. If it crashed down on them, they would surely die.
She used the last of her strength, pushed the front seat with her legs and covered Dolores in the back seat, shielding Dolores between her and the seat.
âMomâ¦â
With a huge roar, the billboard shattered, crushing the minivan underneath.
Victoriaâs body was instantly pressed down. It stopped a few inches above Doloresâ belly.
Blood dripped along her neck.
She fell on top of Dolores.
Dolores opened her eyes in fear, tears welled up in them. She said between sobs, âMamaâ¦. Mamaâ¦â
Victoria showed a smile on her face. âProtect yourself. Protect your baby.â
âHelp! Anybody? Help!â Dolores began to scream for help desperately. However, she couldnât make any loud sounds because she was running out of strength, getting quite weak.
âMom, you must hang in there. You still havenât seen Samuel and Simona go to schoolâ¦â
âIâm afraid I wonât be able to anymoreâ¦â
âYes, you will! You havenât heard Matthew call your mother. Please⦠Youâll be all rightâ¦
Help!â Dolores screamed hoarsely, using all her strength. âHelp!â
âLola, listen to me,â Victoria said in a weak tone, exhaling, âI donât regret it anymore.
Please help me take care of him and protect the baby you are carrying in your wombâ¦â
âMomâ¦â
WY Group.
The entire office was deathly silent, extremely depressing.
Jayden asked Kevin to bring the man who was sent to White City by Matthew for the investigation. âIs he hired by you?â
The man asked about what happened to Victoria in White City back then and was found by Kevin, so Kevin called Jayden.
Matthew stood in front of the French window, shooting the man an indifferent look.
The man immediately lowered his head. âIâm sorry. Iâ¦â
âGo away.â
âYes, Mr. Nelson.â
The man left the office and closed the door.
At first, Jayden changed his mind and wanted to tell Matthew the truth. Since Matthew had become suspicious, it should be a good opportunity, so Jayden didnât think he had to hesitate about how to start the subject.
âWhat do you want to know? You can ask me instead.â Jayden sat down on the couch, winking at Kevin to ask him to sit down.
Kevin looked at Matthew. He wanted to say something, but stopped himself.
Judging by Jaydenâs expression, Kevin guessed that he wanted to say something to Matthew. Kevin thought it would be most appropriate to tell Matthew, so he sat quietly next to him.
âSince you sent someone to look into the matter, you must have some suspicion or know something, right?â Jayden didnât wait for him to respond. He added, âJolene and I respected each other but didnât love each other. She had a man she loved and I didnât want to force myself on her either. She felt sorry for meâ¦.
So she sent me to Victoria.â When Jayden mentioned Victoria, his voice became a little slippery, as if he had remembered things that had happened in the past.
Matthewâs tense chin now emanated sharpness. He turned slowly to look at Jayden coolly.
âI know that, if I tell you the truth now, itâs unfair to you. After all, weâve kept everything from you so you donât understand. So you hateâ¦â
Buzzâ¦
The cell phone on the desk suddenly began to vibrate, interrupting Jaydenâs unfinished words.
Matthew froze. The phone vibrated again and again, but he didnât answer.
Bang!
The office door was suddenly pushed open from the outside. It was Boyce. The bodyguard kept calling Matthew but no one answered the phone, so he called Boyce.
Standing in the doorway, Boyce looked rather solemn. âSomethingâs happened!â
