hay fever

it was july and you felt like summer in all the right places

~~~
i lick the inside of your wrist and freshly cut grass evaporates from it, you're so beautiful and my gaze is blurry but that means it's warm and the rain is long gone
i don't have hay fever
i kiss the side of your neck, blow on your chamomile lips, trace your knuckles with my fingertips, i can't breathe but you smell so good and that means the sun is out
i don't have hay fever
i taste your fruit and they're bitter but on my tongue they melt like butter and years later i still mutter "my god, you're sweet"
i don't have hay fever
i won't look at you, it's pollen season and my apple trees are blossoming, my eyes won't water, i don't have hay fever
~~~

your eyes were dry and you didn't lie except when you did

now i do have hay fever but i promise, if you give me flowers and take me on a walk in the park, i will breathe you in
