Chapter 31
âWhat secret are you talking about?â Nadia pulled away from the woman who was
was trying to grab her away. âI know it and I want to help you. If your mate, the alpha finds out, he might now want you any more. He might have you replacedâ the strange woman said again. Nadia stood in her step. She paused to assess the woman who stood before her but she could not make out the womanâs face or voice. She decided to ask who she was speaking with first before she grew interested in what the woman meant by secret.
âWho are you? Who are you to pull me out of my house like that and why?â She said to the woman. The woman smiled, she stepped a little closer to Nadia as she crossed her arms on her b*dy and looked Nadia straight in the eyes.
âYou see? I know your secret and to me, you canât even hide it. You donât even remember me. That means the secret must be true, she said. Nadia moved backwards again. What gibberish was the lady before her saying?
âTell me your name Or I will leaveâ she said to her. The woman nodded. âMy name is Selene. I used to be your best friend before you disappeared and you told me your secret before you left. I wondered if you were being serious or maybe you were just trying to joke with me. Now that I look at you, I see it. Itâs not a joke, itâs really trueâ
Nadia heard the door opening as she turned to see who it was. It was Vance, he came to dry out the clothes he had gone on an early morning jog with. She saw him smile at her. She smiled back at him.
âDoes the alpha know? Does your mate know your secret?â The woman asked. She caught Nadiaâs attention as Nadia turned her head back to her. Nadia rolled her eyes. and then stared at her.
âWhat is this secret you know that I donât? Would you mind sharing it? Youâve been going on and on about it for some minutes now, share it alreadyâ she said with an impatient tone.
âI know youâre lying to the alpha. I noticed it before but I decided not to step in. Donât you remember? When you brought the case to me? You called me out of my house that night, saying you had something you wanted to share with me. It wasnât so long ago, do you not remember anything like that at all? âThe ladyâs head stuck out as she spoke. Nadia could see the veins on her forehead. It could only mean one thing, she must have been stressing the poor lady. She would be nicer now.
âWhat exactly did I tell you? Itâs been a while now. A whole while. Infact, I think itâs been up to a year, what must I have told you that is top secret, that you feel I am lying to my mate about, please share with me.â Nadia said calmly and nicely. She was trying to be as nice as she could. Hopefully, Selene would not force her hand.

Usually, when she was in her real b*dy, she would be scared and trembling if situations like this were to ever happen, but not anymore. Firstly, she felt stronger. She could take on anyone and anything and second, she was with someone who liked her or at least liked the b*dy she was in, he had not seen Iris for a while and anything she felt said against iris, he would object. He would not want to lose his woman twice. She smiled as she thought about that. Whatever the lady before her wanted to say, would not affect
her.
âWe were best friends and sometimes, people use to call us lovers because of how close we were. I loved you like my sister and you loved me like yours.â She said as she started to cry. Slow sobs followed. The words she had used âlobed you like a sisterâ were the same words She, herself had used when she spoke to Lyra, but she was still betrayed. She remembered clearly.
âOn the day you gave birth to your son. I was by yourself. I remembered it. You were informed of the war as you had just pushed your son out. I remembered that too. I remember you called me out and told me to follow you, donât you remember?âher eyes. widened in hope. Nadia shook her head as she watched the womanâs face drain out of color.
âYou Called me behind the tent and told me you were ill and that you might die soon. I remembered everything you said to me. That was the real reason you went to fight alongside our men in the war. You told me you didnât want to die alone in a sick bed. You would rather die on a battlefield, with honor. I remembered all what you had told me. I tried to stop you but you said no. You insisted and when I fell on my knees to beg I watched you turn your back and walk away. I knew you fought bravely. I heard so from the guards but everyone saud they saw your b*dy. I asked them to keep it away from the alpha because I knew he loved you so much. If I had told him, it might have broken himâ
Nadia nodded, she agreed to what the lady who claimed to be her best friend before said,â so why are you really here and whatâs the secret?â Nadia asked.
Selene smiled to her as she looked up to the sky for some seconds and then back at her friend. She took a deep breath and held onto her shoulder.
âI know youâre not the real Iris. I can feel it and I know why youâre back. Would you want to know how I found out?â
