Chapter 29
Why did you just say that, Lyra?â The leader of the girl group asked, âyou know more than us how annoying she can be. That girl is a weakling and werewolves are not weaklings.â The leader added. Lyra nodded and then started to laugh. She shifted her n*eck sideways as she paused to look at something. Everyone followed her gaze as they turned to look at the fence that seperated Lyraâs backward from their house.
âWhat are you looking at? Someone asked. Lyra hushed them. She stayed silent like that for a while before finally adjusting herself and sitting straight. She smiled to her friends as she spoke, âIâm not so sure but I think I just saw Nadia and so I had to say that. I said it to make her think I liked her. I hope you all understand. I will be nice to her but Iâm on your team, okay?â Everyone nodded and started chattering. Among the chatter, questions like how did she survive?,. Did someone helpher up? Did she suddenly become strong and survive? Or was Lyra sure she had seen Nadia?. Those questions all surfaced. They were all curious to know and so the leader of the girl group suggested they go to her house and visit her.

Lyra raised her hand. She had something to say, âI think I should be the one to go.â She said to the leader and then turned to everyone else. âWe all know everyone here sold bag image to Nadia. We all made her climb down a cliff and not help her up. We left her to die and if weâre being truthful about it, that was a horrible thing to do. I know Nadia and she was hurt, Iâm sure sheâd hate everyone here. Especially after she heard our conversation. I was the only one who had redeemed myself by saying she wasnât so bad, and so I think that would make her trust me more. I suggest I go. Iâll confirm and come back to tell everyone what I saw. You know you guys can count on me she ended her speech with a bow and smile.
Everyone started to murmur but eventually, it all died down. Lyra was right, she was the only one Nadia trusted and so without delay, she was sent to confirm if Nadia was truly alive.
Lyra ran over to Nadiaâs house as she pretended to go over there to ask her parents for help. She barged into their home calling on Nadiaâs mom and dad.
âSir, Ma. Please come immediately, I think Nadia is falling off a cliff. Please come at onceâ she shouted as she walked round the house.
No one was home except Nadia who walked out from her room to the living room.
âYou came back to find help for meâ she muttered gently. âEveryone left me but you came back for me. Everyone said I was useless but you said I wasnâtâ Nadia said.
Lyra nodded as she looked at her friend. She pretended to seem surprised as she asked her friend how she had made it out alive and told her she had come to find help.

Chapter 29
Nadia did not need further explanations. She simply walked over to Lyra and hugged her. Lyra was a good friend and good friends should be valued, she said inwardly. Their embrace lasted for some minutes as Nadia finally lefted her head up and pushed back at little. She wiped her tears and told Lyra she had something important to tell her.
âWhatâs wrong? Is something wrong?.. you know you can tell me anything.â She said to Nadia. Did something happen?â
Nadia felt she had seen the sincerity in her eyes as she shook her head. She said nothing had happened as she explained that a mysterious wolf boy had saved her while everyone left. Lyra asked her to explain to her how the boy looked as she was sure she would know any young male in Wildermont.
Nadia explained and Lyra tried to picture a face but couldnât. Finally, they left the topic as Nadia went back to the question she had wanted to ask before she diverted. It was something very important to the young and naive Nadia.
âwhat is it? Tell me. Iâm all ears? Is it about you or your family?â Lyra asked. Nadia shook her head. It was none of that. It was something far more personal to her. Something she would be grateful for if it happened. âI hope you say yes. I beg youâ Nadia said. She held her friendâs hand and pulled her to her room. In there, she sat in the bed as she gestured Lyra to come sit with her.
âSay yes to what?!.. Nadia, youâre scaring me. Is something happening? Nadia, if itâs something important, donât you think we should tell your parents? They should know before I do. Letâs go Lyra pretended to care. She inwardly had no care for anything that concerned Nadia as she did not want to hear it.
âItâs not bad. Its between us. I was just meaning to ask you if you and I could become best friends forever?. Like, we could become so close and tight. You know, count on each for anything and support each other through everything. I really am ready to do that for you and I was hoping you would accept that too. Thatâs what I meant. I wasnât dyingâ
Lyra was a bit taken aback. She had wanted to say no but she looked at Nadiaâs room. Lyra was from a poor family while Nadia was affluent. That was the reason everyone hated her- including Lyra.
The young Lyra took a deep breath in and exhaled it out. âBeing upset with a rich person is pointless, why donât I become her best friend and steal whatever she has she thought to herself and with that, she turned to the smiling Nadia and nodded.
âThatâs alright and I agree. Iâll be your best friend, Nadia. Till death do us partâ she added with a mischievous smile.
