According to Jason, their destination was located at the far end of Zone B, a place rarely visited. Judging by the distance, the round trip would take about fifteen to twenty minutes, leaving them only half an hour to refuel.
âPeople at the Main Camp have been very strict lately, with tight schedules. Our detour to pick you up took about an hour. If we donât make up that time now, we might have trouble later. Once they start inspecting closely, they might find out that we loaded those supplies before takeoff⦠If that happens, conflicts might escalate,â Jason said as he swiftly opened the door. âThis door can provide some obstruction⦠but since Zone A and Zone B are far apart, you just need to be a bit cautious. Generally, there shouldnât be any issues.â
Ling Mo nodded, sighing inwardly. Despite the dire situation they were facing, Yuwen Xuanâs group managed to dispatch a helicopter to bring them here, risking it all. Although it seemed that Jason considered Ling Mo and his team as a lifeline, if they merely intended to use him as external support, why would they hastily take those blankets and create such a loophole?
Knowing the risks yet still choosing that course of action-typical of that madman Yuwen Xuanâs styleâ¦
Zone B was entirely silent, except for the faint footsteps and the whistling of the wind. Most of the footsteps were from Jason. Being an ordinary person, he couldnât move as quietly as Ye Lian and the others, not even as quietly as the non-Enhancement ability Ling Mo. However, just in terms of physical build, he seemed quite comparable to Ling Moâ¦
Ling Mo had a unique way of walking. He concentrated his psychic power on his feet, allowing him to accurately sense all his movements and the force used at each step. By doing so, he could make adjustments accordingly. Ever since his psychic light cluster was compressed, he had been observing how the female zombies moved, eventually developing his own âstealthâ technique that suited him.
Moreover, he could train his control over psychic power while walkingâ¦
Ye Lian and the others moved in a way that was quite different from humans. In fact, once someone mutated into a zombie, they instinctively learned these movements. If one observed closely, even Xu Shuhanâs footfalls were very similar to Ye Lian and the others.
They landed on their toes with the soles slightly arched, barely touching the ground. But with every step, every muscle in their legs would fully engage, providing extra exercise for their virus-modified bodies⦠Only zombies could perform these actions so naturally, and ordinary people would not notice anything unusual, except maybe that they made no soundâ¦
âItâs normal to have Infant Zombies here, but why are there mutation beasts too?â Ling Mo whispered.
Ye Lian blinked and replied, âFoodâ¦â
âRightâ¦â Ling Mo suddenly realized. This Oil Depot was located in the wilderness, with the nearest place being just an Airport. If mutation beasts were active here, their primary hunting grounds would naturally be the Airport and the Oil Depotâ¦
âBut the fact that there are still quite a number of zombies here, even an opportunity for reproduction, indicates that the hunters are quite clever,â Xia Na suddenly said.
Ling Mo turned to look at her and asked with a smile, âHow so?â
Xia Na giggled, âTheyâre farming. The mutation beasts didnât wipe out the zombies completely, treating this place as a long-term cafeteria. Isnât it clever of them to show such restraint?â
âHoly crap!â It really was!
âBut humans donât have the controllability or reproduction speed of zombies, so if they find you, theyâll have no hesitation in making you a mealâ¦â Xia Na said with a somewhat eerie smile.
Though Jason was leading in front with his gun, he vaguely heard the conversation and stiffened slightly.
However, he didnât hear what Xia Na whispered into Ling Moâs ear afterward: âEspecially you, with your delicious aura all over. You might as well find a cake mascot costume and hold a sign that says âEat Me.â Hmph, foolish humanâ¦â
âHey! Youâre making it sound like Iâm the one dragging you downâ¦â Ling Mo muttered, yet an odd feeling crept into his mind. Upon reflection, it seemed to be true!
âNo way, someone like Jason, with his burly smell, would beat me for sure. If the mutation beasts come, itâd definitely be because of his foot odor!â Ling Mo said decisively.
Jason did hear that part, paused for a moment, and then picked up his pace. Ling Mo couldnât help but feel that the big guy was taking larger steps and lifting his toes higherâ¦
âThis wonât get rid of the foot odorâ¦â Ling Mo thought with a shudder.
About five or six minutes later, the group was well within the boundary of the Oil Depot.
Upon reaching this area, the lane seemed to narrow significantly. With buildings on both sides, the place appeared even more desolate.
âBe careful now,â Jason whispered, his expression much more serious.
In contrast, Ling Mo and the others seemed more relaxed. Ye Lian and the others started sniffing lightly, while Ling Mo released two psychic tentacles⦠Perhaps due to the presence of Senior Zombies, they managed to walk two or three hundred meters without encountering a single zombie.
However, there were occasional rustling sounds nearby, as if something was moving in the shadows.
Jason immediately became more tense, but couldnât slow down his pace, breaking into a cold sweat.
âOver there,â Jason said, pointing to a rooftop not far away. âOnce we fill up with fuel, we can head back. Seems like we got lucky this timeâ¦â
âYeahâ¦â Ling Mo was about to respond when a sudden wail pierced the air.
The sound was abrupt and eerily shrill, resembling a cross between a catâs yowl and an infantâs cry.
The silence was shattered, and Jason was instantly startled.
The big guy shivered, his neck involuntarily shrinking, as he stammered, âOh no⦠this is bad! Our luck is actually terrible! This sound⦠itâs from an Infant Zombie! Weâre out of time! And it could be really dangerous!â
âAn Infant Zombie?â Ling Mo quickly remembered seeing a zombie infant in A City and then thought of the little zombie with a master ball variation⦠In terms of ferocity, these Infant Zombies werenât any less dangerous than adult zombies, but it shouldnât be enough to scare Jason like thisâ¦
Ling Mo didnât think Jason was just being cowardly; there had to be something unusual about the Infant Zombies hereâ¦
âWhat are their characteristics?â Ling Mo asked quickly.
Meanwhile, Ye Lian and the three girls were glancing around while slowly gathering together. Judging by their reaction, things didnât seem to be going wellâ¦
Xu Shuhan nervously grabbed Ling Moâs arm, making him almost want to ask, âBetween the two of us, whoâs the zombie here?â
Ye Lian had already moved to Ling Moâs back, silently raising her Sniper Rifle and whispering, âSomething⦠is comingâ¦â
âCharacteristics? Well⦠they were raised on fuel! Theyâre like miniature Transformers!â Jason exclaimed.
As soon as Jason finished speaking, a dull thud came from the rooftop of one of the warehouses. Immediately after, a dark figure slowly appeared in the groupâs line of sightâ¦
With the appearance of this figure, more shadows began emerging from the rooftops on both sidesâ¦
